Has potential

Hmm, here is a place laid out by idiots. How chains the Hyatt can make such an elementary mistake with the layout of a restaurant ill never know.

Celini is basically a bunch of chairs and tables in the corner of the lobby adjoining China House. Once seated you can actually feel the gaze from folk walking around in the lobby. Very goldfishy. If you sit with your back to the lobby you pretend you are in a 'proper' restaurant.

There is no real ambiance or feel to write off, the place has very little character of any kind. The service is friendly but pretty slow, there didnt seem to be enough folks on the staff though we were a little early at 7.30

I started with a glass of Sicilian wine Nero Davola, fruity, didn't feel like it was time for it to be consumed. Anyway next was the mushroom and goat cheese salad with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar. Excellent stuff this, the cheese plays with the mushrooms and u get a little sweetness with the balsam. Complex stuff.

The entrees were the ravioli stuffed with spinach in a sun dried tomato cream. Terribly done. I got it luke warm, it would have tasted much better otherwise. Either way there was not much to it, fairly simple dish but still disappointing.

The wild mushroom risotto in gorgonzola was absolutely out of this world. No words to say how good this was, one must just go and experience it.

The food has potential, however the ambiance is terrible and the service is patchy.

Damage was fairly severe 1 appetizer, 2 entrees, 2 glasses of wine at 3000.

Pizza that will blow your mind.

If you want to have Pizza that will LITERALLY melt in your mouth you HAVE to come here.
And Pizza is just the start of the stuff you get.

The salads are passable, entrees are innovative and their station Chef, God-Bless-Him knows how to grill fish!
Their sun-dried tomatoes taste like sun-dried tomatoes - which is a relief.

Excellent wine selection.

I recommend this hazelnut souffle they have for desert. I could have done with a more varied menu but the desserts are good. Gelatos are fine.

It's not my favorite location for a restaurant - and being an open restaurant it is noisy. I think they are understaffed.
It's expensive of course - and literally in the middle of nowhere.

Excellent tiramisu

Contrary to shakfoo and deapubhi I loved the way they have merged the restaurant space with the extended lobby. It feels more like a part of the art gallery. I think it is very tastefully done.

Overall the food was extremely nice and the best part was the dessert. They started with serving bread with dip and olive oil. It was extremely well baked and the outer crust was slightly crunchy. Very yummy.

We tried a risotto, ravioli and pizza. Pizzas were the extremely thin crust ones. Excellent food!!! Never to miss at this place is tiramisu.

horrible location, decent food

I'd have to agree with the previous reviewer about the placement of this hotel - it's quite jarring as you don't know when the lobby has ended and when this restaurant has begun. Having that said, the menu is quite solid in terms of the offering, both for vegetarians and for non vegetarians as well. Choose from a range of pizzas, pastas, and other Italian dishes. I had the king-sized prawns with an arugula and pumpkin salad. It was a tad bit salty for my taste, but the prawns were sweet and meaty. The arugula was fresh, and that was certainly worth something. I had this with two glasses of an Australian Pinot Noir, which was a tad bit on the sweet side, most likely because it hasn't had time to age properly (it was a 2004). The wine list itself was quite impressive for Mumbai's standards - saw some Caymus Cabernet's, some Joseph Phelps meritages, as well some Duckhorn and Stag's Leap as well (these are all quality California labels for complex, powerful reds).

I'd definitely come back here for some decent Italian food and definitely for the wine. If you can spend a buck on a nice robust red, this might be the place to do it. 3.5/5...

Not Worth the Effort

A friend and I decided to stray off the beaten path of South Bombay eateries last evening and opted to head to Celini at the Grand Hyatt (Santacruz) for dinner. Pretty soon after walking into the place we realized we had made a mistake.

The restaraunt is horribly located right in the lobby, giving it the feel of some lobby bar/coffee-shop instead of a fine dining restaraunt. The lighting is bright and decor is horrendous.

After placing our drinks order we had to wait about 30 minutes to receive them - and mind you, we were only drinking beer! The excuse was that they had "lost" the order somewhere back in the kitchen. The drinks were so delayed that the food actually arrived before they did. We also had to ask about 5 different waiters to bring us bread. All in all the service at this place is shoddy at best.

Thank god for the food though! It was actually pretty good. My friend had the fettucini with Parma sausage and marinara sauce and I had the baked penne with a creamy mushroom and pecorino sauce. Both dishes were extremely palatable. Had it not been for this, the dinner would have been a total bust!

In any case, I would not really recommend this place. No amount of great food makes up for lousy service! Feel free to go here if you want to be treated like crap.
