Anant Ashram

46, Khotachiwadi, Opposite Majestic Cinema Bldg, Girgaum, Mumbai

Best place to have Seafood, Gomantak, Maharashtrian and Malwani food. It is a no nonsense place with small seperate marble tables, situated at a heritage vicinity at Kothachi wadi Girgaum. The food is prepared on wood and charcoal fire and the taste and quality is just mind blowing. Nowhere in Mumbai one can get such tasty food. Even foriegners make it a point to go in the bylanes, find the place and return much satisfied.

Delicious food

I have been to Anant Ashram a few times. Their food is always excellent. Prawns, Clams, Chicken, Mutton, Crab is good, but the best dish on the menu is surely the Shark Masala. It always manages to be bang on the money. The fried fish is tasty as well but you usually will get only one type of fish be it - Seer Fish or King Fish or Pomfret. Their fish curry is nice too. I am sorry to say vegetarians will have only - Bhaji, Ussal and Dal as options.
Their service is legendary. The Khadpe's are very poor at entertaining their customers. They are consistently rude to say the very least. Ambience is basic but usually clean.
On the whole, this place would deserve 5 stars, but their awful service earns it a four.

its about principles.......

Their are some people who always complaint about their rudeness .......but I think its about 'principle' of self respect and treating every one with equality ........This is not a restaurant where you can throw some money and book a table months in advance........The Owner does not give a shit for who you are or how much money you have.... he just has the habit of treating everyone equally.....

Its coz of this attitude he has managed to maintain the taste of his food.....
and pls when you order them make sure you are 'requesting' and not 'commanding'.....

Great food cooked on woodfire

Really the food rocks at this place. One has to visit to find out. All the seafood restaurants should learn from this place though difficult to find in the bylanes of Kotachiwadi (beautiful heritage precints). Yes the service is pretty grumpy though but don't mind they are like that only for years and they care two hoots for all the best self proclaimed food critics, Because all they care is for the best quality food served with the tastiest hand pounded masalas cooked on wood fire. Their chutney is to die for.

4 *s for food, none for service.

If they run a place that serves food then they should treat people who come to eat there as guests instead, they are rude and care two hoots for customers needs WHY???

Having said that their food is excellent and worth a visit.
