Standards...

Well I have been to "Avalon" a couple of times, and though I must say that all those times I went, I was fortunate enough to have the coolest company.

This being said, I guess my overall opinion of "Avalon" wasn't one way or the other, because in general I had a great time.

After a few months, upon being asked again as to where to go, and since at that time (a couple of years ago - 2006), "Avalon" was one of the few places which you could be assured would stay open till the wee hours in the morning, which turned out advantageous, since my friends and I were all staying with family at the time, and couldn't really get back home too late, we decided to go to "Avalon".

We get to the place, and in the span of a few months, the whole place has sorta gone to the dumps. The service is decent, as it is in most places, the entry wasn't all that much (as compared to some of the other places).

At the end of it all though, my friends and I left, we were obviously remember wrongly as to how nice this place was.

If this establishment wants to change its appearance and clientele then it really needs to roll up its sleeves and do a better job then they are doing at the moment.

It is sad to see a place get run down, when its soooo well remembered plus it's got a fantastic location, being so close to the airport and its 24-hour restaurant.

Whom-so-ever may be responsible for "Avalon", needs to truly look into the management of the place and do it up a bit.

A bit of money, some stronger policies - as to who gets entry etc., some nice DJ'ing, and this place could be well on top again.

It should be like one of those places only the locals go to because, its clean, its got a good crowd, and decent music.

Some superficial furniture changes cannot be all that complicated, yes I realize its not easy either, I'm not trying to be a preacher here, I understand what it takes to renovate a place like this and I'm not underplaying the amount of work involved, its just that sitting on property like that, and not really doing anything to bolster its profitability is a little disappointing.

I would hate to see a place like this be ruined by the apathy of its proprietors.

If nothing else then there should be some sort of an online / newspaper run contest to see who can come up with the most interesting theme and design to the place, and as an added clause the person whose designs cost the least amount of money will get preferences over those who rank similarly (conceptually speaking).

The winner could win a cash prize (somewhat less than it would cost actually having to hire a professional designer),

The college crowds should be dragged into it as well, there should be young brains working to pimp this place out, so that whom-so-ever does come here, knows that they are in a place that offers something different from everyone else, a sense of (urban) style.

Oh well, the catering business is far more complex and difficult then most people realize, I hope my advice isn't taken as criticism or scoff, but more along-the-lines of me really wanting to see a place get back to the standards that would rival any other bar/pub/disc in the city.
