Nothing great

I went there last night for dinner with four of my friends. We had a lotta expections from this place but after the meal, we were pretty disappointed.

The service was slow & the food was just ok, nothing great for the price we paid for it.

We had:
Tomato soup
Sweet corn Veg Soup
Paneer Tikka
Some prawns starter
Butter garlic Nan
Jeera rice
Chicken tikka masala
Pomfret Fry
Veg Kolhapuri

The sweet corn veg soup was too thick. I liked the prawns starter but it had very lil salt but that was ok. The chicken tikka masala was good too...but thn again I've had better chicken tikka masala at many other places. The pomfret fry was bland...it was just ok but the portion was huge!

Total damage (5 ppl): Rs 1823

This place is a lil heavy on the wallet but I dont mind spending money on food as long as the food is really good. Gajalee disappointed me. I'd rather go to Jai Hind Lunch home next time.

Not a GREAT experience

I have been a big fan of Trishna for years, but had never tried Gajalee. So was quite excited to be there for the first time given all the hype built up by all the news channels for this restaurant.

SERVICE -
1. In spite of the fact that I had a reservation and the hotel was relatively empty when I arrived, I wasn't given the table of my choice. I was rudely forced to sit on a table close to the serving rack which I really hate.

2. The waiters were really rude and no one was keen to work. They were all busy watching some tennis match displayed on their large TV. Highly unprofessional.

3. The waiter who served us was very snobbish and was taking his own time to do his stuff which was very irritating.

4. I placed the order with one waiter and some time later another guy came in and said that the Prawns Pickle is not available. I said ok and placed an order for Stuffed Pomfret. This waiter placed an order for only this dish with the chef and didn't even bother to ask the previous waiter about the other dishes I had ordered. After a 30 min wait this stupidity was revealed and the waiter got a mouthful from me.

FOOD -
Dishes I tried - Tisrya (Clam Koshimbir), Stuffed Pomfret, Solkadi, Bombil Fry (Bombay Duck), Crab in Butter Pepper Garlic Sauce, Sokadi

1. Clams were excellent. Very tasty and definitely exceeded expectations.
2. Stuffed Pomfret - Below average. The filling was very irregular. the masala was sparse in some areas and was too heavy in other areas, which gave an unsatisfactory taste. However the fish was really fresh (not very big though) and the shallow fry was excellent. These guys are really good at that.
3. Solkadi - Awesome. Fantastic Appetizer, has the perfect zing expected from solkadi
4. Bombil Fry - this was the best dish I tried. The fried fish just melts in your mouth. A must try.
5. Large Crab (about Rs.1000) in butter pepper garlic sauce - The worst dish I tried. It had a very strong taste of garlic and was leaving a very bad taste in the mouth. This was absolutely no close to the crab bbp you get in Trishna. Only Trishna (not even Mahesh Lunch Home) know how to make it perfect and thats why their name has even appeared in the New York times.

Overall - mixed reviews, nothing great - however I will surely give the branch in Vile Parle a try.

Good Sea Food

Visited this place recently. I knew this restaurant is good for sea food, but their vegetarian food is not very exciting. They seem to be trying to cater to Gujarathi taste bud with most of the veg sabji's tasting sweet. I can vouch for Sea and Non-veg food here.

TIP: If you planning to have dinner here, take the seat next to the glass window. You dont wanna miss sweet girls waiting outsite RA in micro minis.

Definitely thumbs up for sea food.

Good food

Gajalee at Phoenix Mills has a more contemporary decor and is a newly opened restaurant as compared to its old counterparts at Vile Parle and Andheri (E), so the prices are also on the higher side. Food is tasty and maybe a tad better than Mahesh Lunch Home.
