Yummy-Strawberry Cream

This place servers the most sinful strawberry cream. It sells like hot cake. Unfortunately because strawberry is seasonal you get the pleasure of having this only during that time. But its like addiction.

Its priced slightly steep, but honestly who cares!!! Very nattily these guys past 2 seasons have come up with 2 sizes init regular and large. Sadly the regular is little smaller than the earlier packaging but same priced.

But ultimately there is no denying no other place comes close to matching the strawberry cream that Bachelorr's serves.

Divine Juices

I was heading to Kalaghoda with a group of buddies and was totally dehydrated in the Mumbai heat. We decided to stop by Bachelors to check out some of their juices.

We tried the Pomegranate juice and the Strawberry juice. Boy, they were lip-smackingly divine. The price for the Pomegranate was a bit steep at around 90 bucks. The Strawberry juice was reasonably priced at Rs. 34 or so.

Just ask them to not add any sugar or ice. Have your juices fresh and natural.

fantastically fresh, but freaking expensive!

Quick review here - stopped over here on a hot day's trip towards town for some fresh juice. Had heard so much about this place and then read the glowing reviews here, so decided to give it a try. Being the fitness freak, I didn't opt for their popular ice cream dishes, but did try a pomegranite juice. It was deliciously fresh - but the tab came out to be about 100 bucks! Wow, that's some expensive juice! Comrades had watermelon juice, equally fresh, and equally expensive. Be careful - this road-side stall has got a deceptively expensive menu :)

Best Ice Cream Ever!

Bachelorr's is really far away from my house, but whenever I get the opportunity, I go with my family.

They have the best tasting ice creams! This is nothing compared to their runner-up, Natural's or Gokul.

I specially love their strawberry's and cream. It is really big, @ about Rs. 80 . But it is truly divine. The cream and strawberries just melt in your mouth.

They serve a lot of innovative stuff, such as green chilli ice cream. I thought that it wont be so great.. I had a taste. I put the ice cream into my mouth and I thought that whats so great in it? It doesnt even have the chilli flavour! But then as the ice cream went into my throat, I had a helluva time which I wasnt expecting. It just sizzled in my throat. Its really deadly!!!

My mother had the ferrero roccher and toblerone ice cream (mixed).
The roccher ice-cream rocked. I'm sure they put real rocchers into it, because you could taste every part of the roccher. (the hazelnuts, the wafer layer, the chocolate part, everything) The toblerone ice-cream was OK.

After that, I had tasted the oreo ice cream. It had oreo biscuits in them. Really crunchy..

I noticed in the menu, that they've got a whole range of pizzas, sandwiches, chaat and the like. I also noticed an "Ice cream Bhel".
They said that the bhel had ice cream in it instead of the usual chutneys.

This small shack in chowpatty doesnt look like it can offer a lot, with local trains running behind it. But you shouldnt judge a book by it's cover. Just try it and you'll totally love it!

Fantastic Ice Cream at Chowpatty

My Favourite "Green Chilli" Ice Cream at Chowpatty
By
Vikram Karve

It’s been a long time since I’ve relished a bowl of “green chilli ice cream” but the zestful taste still lingers on my tongue. Never before had I enjoyed eating ice cream so much. It was indeed a unique and passionate eating experience. Let me tell you about it.

I love ice cream. A friend of mine told me that there is a place opposite the Chowpatty Sea Face in Mumbai India that serves “green chilli” ice cream. I didn’t believe him. I have savored myriad flavours of ice cream but “green chilli ice cream” seemed a bit far fetched. On questioning, my friend confessed that he had only heard about it, not eaten it himself.

The very concept of green chilli ice cream whetted my curiosity so much that at sunset I was standing in front of Bachelorr’s (that’s the spelling on the menu card) Ice Cream and Juice Stall, my appetite fully stimulated by a long brisk walk.

It was there on the menu card – Green Chilli Ice Cream. I ordered it and walked with the bowl to a lonely bench nearby to enjoy the eating experience in glorious solitude.

The ice cream looks a creamy pink (not chilli green as I had expected it to be). I close my eyes and smell the ice cream – a nice sweet milky fragrance, a bit fruity; certainly no trace of the piquant penetrating sting of chillies. With a tremor of trepidation I spoon a bit of the green chilli ice cream on my tongue.

My taste buds are smothered by a sweet mellifluous sensation as the cold creamy ice cream starts melting on my tongue. I am disappointed, feel conned – it seems it was just hype. This is run of the mill stuff. Or is it? Wait a moment. As the ice cream melts away I suddenly feel a sharp piercing fiery taste that sizzles my tongue, stings through my nose and penetrates my brain. My tongue is on fire and, like instant firefighting, I instinctively spoon a blob of ice cream onto my tongue. The cool ice cream quenches my burning tongue with its almost ambrosial taste but the moment it melts away I am zipped like a rocket with the sharp punch of the green chillies.

So that was the art of eating green chilli ice cream. Hot and cold. Scorch and quench. Sting and soothe. Contrasting sensations. Like alternating current. Sharp tangy kicks burning through the cool syrupy sweetness till your system is fully perked up. And a trace of the biting tangy flavour of the green chilli remains within me for a long long time as I walk away.

Green chilli ice cream doesn’t satiate – it excites, stimulates, gives you a “kick”, zests you up. It’s a truly passionate delight.

There are many unusual and novel ice creams with their unique tastes which you can try and relish; but Green Chilli Ice Cream is the "signature dish" of this place.

The next time you are in Mumbai, head for Chowpatty, and relish a bowl of green chilli ice cream. And let me know if you liked it.
