Bootleggers

Pipewala Building, 4th Pasta Lane, Opp. Navy Children High School, Colaba, Mumbai

Walk into this comfortable, neighborhood prohibition-themed speakeasy, and you will instantly feel at ease. No pretentiousness here, only a call-back to the 1920s era in the United States when alcohol was banned, and the country became rife with mafioso-stye criminals, adorned in zoot suits and fedoras, fighting to control turfs of speakeasies to be their suppliers of smuggled whisky and other spirits.

Kinda Seedy

Went on a Friday evening around 8:30. Surprisingly there only men here and maybe one girl besides me. Maybe it was a one off thing.

The place is not bad but the crowd was. Left after a drink.

They have a paneer started in some green gravy which was really good. Onion rings were very greasy but ok.

Can't even think of one reason I would want to visit again.

Decent hangout

I frequented this spot on a Saturday night with a few of my college friends. The music was the first thing that struck me about this place, the in-house DJ played some really nice tunes. The tunes were non-Bollywood, non-commercial, and he played some R.E.M., Third-eye blind and such. The music did get a little commercial round 12.30 AM with some Timbaland and Snoop dogg and random hip-hop.

The drinks were good, they were adequately stiff, were relatively inexpensively priced too at about Rs. 300 for a scotch and soda and the service was very much acceptable.

the place was not overly packed on a Saturday night either, and there was place to move about, some what of a privilege in this city of ours?

some of the people called for some finger food, which looked so-so, i didnt end up eating any of it so would not have an opinion about it.

I heard this used to be the old hawaiin shack in Colaba. All in all, it was a decent place to hang out and catch up with old friends.

Pros: Value for drink-money, Music, Not too packed

Cons: The bathroom was tiny, Parking is non-existent

Not exactly a week day bar!

I always thought Pasta Lane was one of the seedier parts of Colaba and was pleasantly surprised that it was quite a normal lane. Almost at the beginning of the turn off to this gully, is an almost miss-it -bar called Bootlegger.

Even though we went there at 10 in the night, it was dead outside and even deader inside. Sad really because the place had a great atmosphere. A huge flat screen showing ESPN, great posters of gangsters, a well stocked bar and fantastic music should have made it a perfect place to hang out. Unlike other bars which make conversation impossible, Bootleggers has music at just the right volume. The staff is friendly and helpful giving hints of how to get the bottom tile of Jenga out without toppling the tower!!!!

The eats were chalked up on the black board and even though there was great stuff like Red Snapper, we didn't stay for them. Frankly, a bar is no fun when it is empty and after the Jenga tower collapsed the second time, we beat a hastyt retreat.

p.s. I believe this is the perfect place for a Sunday night unwind though and may give it a shot some other time

I would go there again for a second time though, perhaps when it is more crowded................but for now, I'd rather have a drink at home.
