Great Chinese grub in Vashi

This is a little eatery in Sector 17, just next to the HDFC bank.

Ambience- bright and pleasant. Simple decor...no red walls, chinese lamps, etc., just plain walls, one orange wall with a flat screen TV . There is an upstairs which is the family room which we've never been to.
Service- very friendly. The Head waiter is very well informed and is helpful but not pushy.
Prices- Reasonable. Not cheap, but not exorbitant at all.
Cuisine- Mainly Chinese with a smattering of Thai and Malaysian options.
Portions- Generous
What we ate- For starters we have tried the Lat Mai Kai which is Chicken cubes in a very thin batter deep fried and then tossed in a tangy sauce. These are absolutely delicious. We've tried them a couple of times and they have been consistently great.
Another great starter is the Crispy fish in Chilli honey sauce. Plenty of sesame seeds coated on batter fried fillets of pomfret. Superb.
They also have a selection of dim sum.
Main course- We've tried the Garlic pepper chicken which was nice. Nothing earthshaking, but nice. The Shredded Chicken with Green & Red Peppers is fabulous. The best So far is a tussle between the Shredded Lamb in Honey & Black Pepper and the Prawns Tobanjan. The prawns are large prawns in a red slightly spicy gravy. These are among the freshest prawns I've ever eaten outside.
The Crispy lamb Peking style was full of a medley of Chinese vegetables. It would have been quite nice but had a tad too much salt.
Rice & Noodles- We've always opted for the Veg versions to complement the Non veg main courses. They serve a Ginger capsicum fried rice which is quite nice and is a great relief from the standard veg fried rice or Burnt garlic fried rice. We tried out the the veg hakka noodles. I found it flavourful, good enough to eat on its own.
Desserts- We have never ordered dessert though we're always tempted!! The first time we went to Hindi Chini we were given a complimentary desssert. The Caramelised banana with Ice cream. In contrast to the usual combination of the caramelised banana with vanilla ice cream they served strawberry ice cream. the combination worked surprisingly well.

We've been here about 3 or 4 times and we've not had any bad experience, food or service wise. An occasional preparation might not have worked out but on the whole this is a place that we will frequently be going to. The food is not very 'Indanised' and the food quality is consistent.
On the whole, a big Thumbs UP!!
