Booked a table for 8pm and at 8.16 I had a call from the head-waiter asking where we were... not a good start. But let's focus on the food. Ordered their signature ramen only to be told they were out of ramen. Out of ramen??? Really??? The noodle wallah is on strike or what??? My wife ordered a few sushis and they looked great but as she picked the most unchallenging 1s, it was hard to use that as benchmark. Next came my salad with squid tempura. The iceberg salad looked straight out of a supermarket bag and its sesame dressing was just about ok; the squid tempura on the other hand was... read more

  • Oops .... they forgot!!! 2011-09-10

I think I need divine intervention to get good hospitality at the Taj Palace restaurants.

Was there for lunch this afternoon to celebrate my kid's birthday. We had made reservations and given special instructions to the hostess Krutika, and Manager, Sukumar, to make a special arrangement on this occasion to celebrate the birthday. Can you think that a place like Wasabi would forget it - they actually FORGOT about the arrangement, until we reminded them when we were leaving. On top of that, the F&B Manager, Santosh, tried to cover up the goof-up by offering to pack a cake for us!!

Easily the best Japanese restaurant in Bombay; one of maybe a half dozen fine dining restaurants in the city that are on par with the very best fine dining restaurants in New York or Paris. Because so many of the ingredients are necessarily imported from Japan, the prices are like those in New York as well. Fair enough -- except that as it is housed in the Taj, you end up paying phenomenal taxes on top of the base bill -- something New Yorkers don't have to do -- which can be quite annoying.

  • Best Japanese in india 2011-01-12

Amazing Japanese food and the service is fantastic. However the price just keeps going up and up and now the problem is I like wasabi but I just don't care for Japanese food so much to pay those silly prices.

  • Its in Taj, what can you say! 2010-11-25

Dined here with a dear friend, who knows Sushi very well than I do. Both of us thought that was Sushi was good if not excellent. All ingredients were fresh and the wasabi was freshly grated, like its supposed to be. Salmon and Mackerel were melty and delicious. The squid and shrimp were hard and chewy, shouldnt be on a platter of 5 star restaurant. Extremely expensive, we paid Rs. 7,500 for two for one appetizer and a chefs selection sushi platter. Not a place for romantic date but this is one of the places in Mumbai with decent sushi. Drinks were really good, those martinis were killer. I will... read more

  • what an experience 2010-05-26

Everything about Wasabi was perfect - from the greeting in the lift to the goodbyes as we left! We are big fans of Japanese food - and this compares to some of the best Japanese restaurants in Japan, Australia and New York! We had the Omikase (set) menu - the fish was fresh as fresh could be, the presentation was perfect and the selection of dishes was just right. It was all topped off with gratings of fresh wasabi on our fish which I have never seen done anywhere else and proved to be a great little touch. Yes - it is expensive - but truly worth every penny!

  • I give it 5 stars but its overrated 2010-01-29

Since we dont have much choice here in Mumbai , this place deserves 5 stars but on the whole its overrated ....Fresh sea food flown in regularly I am told, but somehow lacking something. Only the rock lobster tempura was outstanding..rest all mediocre...

  • Spectacular. 2009-03-17

What people don't understand about good quality Jap food is the freshness of the ingredients that go into each and every piece of sushi. All the fish items need to be flown in regularly (at LEAST every 3 days if not less). Have you ever eaten stale raw fish? Your stomach would never forgive you and it smells worse than our Mumbai slums. Anyway moving on, Wasabi is at the pinnacle of freshness and everything is prepared to perfection. I visit pretty often and am always highly satisfied. Yes, it is expensive but not compared to a Nobu or Oishii (In New York and Boston).

  • For people who dont know food and the view of the 2008-10-15

This is one of the worst restaurants in the city by far. Every thing you order comes glazed with sugar, its sweet, the fish is hard, the order takes forever and the prices are ridiculous. anyone who really likes Japanese food will not be seen there after the first time. Its funny how most people who say they like Wasabi are Vegetarian. Everything there tastes not even anywhere close to even a japanese chain restaurant like Sushi Tei in London or Singapore except, the prices are 5 times higher. Bombays ridiculous crowd go there to showoff but i suggest you go there only If you want to showoff your... read more
