I have been to this place 4-5 times and every time I have experienced different emotions. only 1 emotion is consistent-relief, that I never had to pay the bill :D
Okay, beginning from the ..err...beginning.
My uncle lives in delhi and makes a trip to Mumbai for business meetings every 6 months or so and he does not have anything outside except Indian dishes or chicken at KFC. Now my family is strict vegetarian and we refuse to step inside KFC (we don't like the face of that creepy old guy in red and white-seriously, he gives me nightmares) so basically every time he is in town we have to go to an Indian restaurant and for some strange reason he likes this place. So invariably we end up here.
We don't mind going here. It is a famous place with great ambiance. The interiors are very royal, the servers are very polite and well-trained and the seating is awesome, I love how we are able to catch up on all the family gossip even in the middle of the restaurant :D
Cleanliness, service quality, ambiance, seating, everything is top notch. Then where is the problem, you ask?
Food my darlings, FOOD.
Every single time we have ordered for 4-5 dishes (Uncle and I are ravenous elephants when it comes to food) and every single time these guys have managed to botch up at least 1 dish. The first time, uncle had achari chicken tikka in appetizer and he sent it back because according to him it was the exact opposite of what it was supposed to taste like (I don't know what was wrong because obviously I did not taste it). Since that day, he has not called for another non-veg thing here. The next time we were here I called for vegetable jhalfrezi because it is supposed to be spicy and mom wanted that. Lord knows what was presented to us, it was spicy all right but we couldn't understand where were the vegetables? It was like drinking slushy liquid spice water with some chunks of alien goo floating inside! Another time we had Tandoori Shashlik as appetizer and it was completely bland. And finally they messed up something as basic as kadhai paneer!!! There were about 4 pieces of paneer in there and they too did not feel properly cooked! How can anyone mess that up??? To top it all, the last time we were here it took them 40 minutes to bring our order-40 Freaking Minutes!!! We had so much time we gossiped about our whole freaking village right back to our great-grandparents' generation before our food made an appearance!
Thank Lord that the rest of the dishes have been okay. My mom keeps ordering for roomali roti and loves it here as does my sis. I like the Tandoori roti, naan and even the veg biryani is quite good. The one staple I always order is Malai Kofta because I have such a sweet jaw I need something sweet every time I eat :D My uncle likes veg Makhanwala and sticks to that. the portions are just about okay. Well, this place is one of the fine dine ones so I guess I really can't complain, but I wish the portions were a little bit more generous.
I don't grudge the fame this place enjoys but I wish they would concentrate on the quality of food because it's the food that matters the most, right?
