Best chicken and mashed potatoes

It won't be an exaggeration if I say that Salt Water Cafe makes the best grilled chicken and mashed potatoes.

We went there week to celebrate friend's birthday and chose to on the terrace. Right now the Mumbai weather is just perfect to sit at the roof top sections of the restaurants. Anyway, so we ordered a grilled pepper chicken - it was beautifully cooked, had a crispy skin and was served with perfect mashed potatoes. The pan seared chicken legs, NY lamb shanks, pan seared basa and pasta were good too. From the dessert section make sure you order the tiramisu - best in Mumbai and warm cheesecake.

Service here is a bit slow but food pretty much makes up for every drawback.

Pass Me the Salt

So what if it’s not facing the ocean and you can’t dig your toes into the sand anymore, even as you dig into fare that’s as delish as before? I was thrilled to hear that the much-mourned-since-it-shut-down Salt Water Grill, one of Sobo’s most alluring dining destinations, was reinventing itself in the queen of the burbs. Bandra’s fab new Salt Water Cafe is open all day, starting with breakfast at 9am! The clean lines of wooden furniture cast in situ, a sun deck for al fresco dining, a bar and a delicatessen counter spread over two levels, made this brand new space extremely tempting....[read more on Trendy.in]

Good Food Great Ambience

A friend and I walked into salt water cafe for some dessert after a rather disappointing time at Aoi. We ended up having such a good time that we now frequent it quite often. The ambience is really inviting. They have a particularly nice breakfast menu. The presentation too is done beautifully. We tried their tenderloin carpaccio as well as the tenderloin sandwich which was very very filling, the John Dory which was so good that we ended up licking our plates clean. For dessert we ordered the chocolate crème brûlée, the hot chocolate fondant and a chocolate croissant out of which I preferred the fondant the most.
Everything is done so well and the staff is cheerful and helpful. They even offered us a membership. It's card-less and free of cost and you get to redeem points you earn based on your spending. You need to submit a photograph or get one clicked right there and your details, that's all.
Even though it gets a bit crowded it doesn’t bother you much, the place gives out really good vibes. I especially like all the natural light pouring in from the glass windows during the day ? It seems perfect for pretty much any time of the day from breakfast to a lazy brunch to an early dinner. Salt Water Cafe is easily one of my favourite places in the city. A must visit for good conversations and good food.

Impressario impresses.Respect!

Few days back,i did not have a good experience. These guys called me back and offered a complimentary meal.Bread basket was decent.Lasagna was good enough.its smoked tomato reminded me of the moussaka i had at waterstones.spinach, orange, sesame granola salad was good.it would have been great if there were less leaves. The tiramisu was superb.Order it if you dont mind reasonably excess coffee in your tiramisu. It was served with porcini ice cream.I wont say i loved it...but it was certainly very innovative and did not taste bland.it had the right amount of flavor. The dark chocolate creme brulee was bang on!exactly how it was supposed to.dark chocolate cream with a caramelised layer on top.Service was impeccable.Mocktail was a little on the salty side.
These guys are also experimenting with their ice creams.
Pleasure to have a meal here.Impressario impresses again!

Must try their breakfast. :)

Having lived in Khar for a while, I am surprised how I missed out Salt Water Cafe. This past Saturday morning, we were going over weekend breakfast options, and SWC seemed to have some very interesting options. We decided to give it a try, and turned up at 945 AM.

The seating was half full by the time we got in, which means all the gorgeous tables with the window view were gone, hey, it was raining so imagine the green outside on Chapel Road. We got a table easily, however, we were not attended to for a while after till we have to waive and get the attention of the staff again.

Between the two of us, we went with the Fluffy Omelette, masala and the Spanish Omelette. We also ordered some juices along, and I had the apple & celery juice. Again, it took them a while to deliver the goods here. People who had come after us were served their food, while we looked on.

Eventually the spanish omelette came in first. Boy, it was huge and took us aback by the size itself. Had we known about it being a largish portion, we might have just stuck to one bunch of egg orders. It was made with 3 eggs, had zucchini, potato, tomatoes and other stuffings. Needed some salt but went well the way it was.

My masala omelette came with toast and fresh butter. The toast was not very toasty however we survived on it. The omelette, on the other hand, was pretty good. It did not need too much work on it.

After polishing off the omelets, I was eyeing the pancakes. They had a pancake stack, which came with Peanut butter, Nutella and jelly along. Woot. This was wolfed down in no time, and delivered the goods. Great pancakes, and a good portion size as well.

After that, when we called for the check, we were asked about membership to their loyalty program. We asked for details and were told that this allowed for 10% of the bill amount to be credited back as points which we could redeem later. Filed up a short form and got a picture clicked, and 2 days later got an email about the account being active, as well as about the first bill being credited in. Kudos! Membership was complimentary.

I'm planning to put this on as a regular breakfast place. You must give em a go!

A place where one can have a conversation

The place was cozy and lighting good for a place where one can meet and have a conversation. Often I find the music too loud, inhibiting us to have any kind of conversation. One thing I like about this place is that I can talk to people without straining my vocal chords. Reasonably priced menu and drinks and a good unlimited cocktails offer make this a place to consider if you head towards Bandra and are not looking to club.

Nice place

Considering that this cafe is located close to my house it never tempted me to enter ...but out of the blue a few friends and I decided to venture and wallop a few dishes in their menu ..
Not very sure with the names but we drank sangria, sipped on a few smoothies and ordered for a few salads
all I do remember is that we had a filled tummy and a slurrpy mouth..

The staff is organised ..they know what to do ..very courteous and suggestive

the ambience is quite pleasant ..i wouldn't mind going here again

Love everything about this place

I love this place - the setup, the ambiance, the food, the music and even the slightly laid back service. I don't know why I don't come out here more often.

Came here for a meeting this morning. The place was empty and the servers too didn't pester us. Finally ordered the marinated mushrooms (must try) and a nice ginger, orange and carrot juice along with it.

They have an awesome breakfast variety.

Lovely Food

Had visited this restaurant on Wednesday (ganesh visarjan day) for a quick bite. Since I am on diet, I ordered pesto grilled chicken & pepper sandwich with whole wheat bread and Warm Three Mushroom Salad. That Sandwich is actually a wrap but the hotel staff was sweet enough to offer the same wrap in a sandwich format. both the items ordered were very nice. I didn't miss high calorie cheesy stuff at all. This S/W & the lovely mushroom salad was yummy to the core. Will visit again & order the same stuff. Once my diet period is over.. will try their other mouth watering food also. On caution though - extremely pricey. Just 2 items... bill was 825/-

Great Food

If you like European and continental cuisine you must visit Salt Water Cafe. The salads here are great including the Caesar and three mushroom salad. The pastas are okay. Their chicken and fish is simply superb. What's more, they even have an option for unlimited alcohol. During winter they have a nice outdoor seating on the roof. Salt Water makes a nice meal and you are sure to enjoy it.

I really admire the interiors- it is interesting and off-the hook! The menu is impressive and so is the quality and freshness. I don't remember what I had when I went to eat there but it was a vegeterian salad and sandwich, around lunch time. Great food, service and ambience!

nice place

This place easily serves the best Carpaccio I've had in the city. They usually have a lip smacking line up of stuff, but there have been times when we've reached the place dying to eat a steak and there has been none.

The menu is a tad expensive, but the food is well worth the trip and the trouble. The cut of steak is a tad chunky, but is always free of any sinew, making it something to look forward to at dinner.

They better learn their lessons before they are forced to close down. When there would be no customers then what do they do with their attitude ?? Not great for vegetarians

I found the food expensive and not at all value for money. There are hardly any good choices for vegetarians. Visited this place just once and do not intend to visit again. We sat outside, although i would suggest not to if you want to avoid the traffic noise. My friend who is a non-vegetarian liked the food though, so if you are a non-vegetarian you can try it out.

Shiitake risotto with no Shiitake!

I am a confirmed non-vegetarian, especially in an European food restaurant. The only time I may opt for vegetarian food is when it involves shiitake mushroom or miso. I ordered the Shiitake mushroom risotto at Salt Water Cafe. It came with regular button mushroom. When I pointed this out to the waiter, he went back to the kitchen, stood at the door (I could see him) and came back with a bowl of fried Shiitake! No apologies, no remorse. Not really my idea of service at an eatery of its stature and price.

terrible management

They have the best food but the manager is rude and arrogant. After I made a reservation at the bar area and being promised the same, the manager tried making my elderly mother take a table in the hot sun while I had gone to visit the bathroom. He snapped at her to "make up her mind' when she said she couldn't sit outside and that we had asked for the bar area. Disgusting behavior! Had no choice but to leave. The place is going from bad to worse because of him ; this isn't the first time he has misbehaved. He actually rolled his eyes at us.

For A Heavenly Sunday Meal

"I will drink life to the lees" said Tennyson in his famous poem, Ulysses. Salt Water Cafe lets you deliver on that promise.

Fantastic cuts of meat, delicious alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, a mix of healthy and tasty eating for a Sunday meal. Needless to say, I enjoyed my Sunday afternoon siesta after a meal here.

Pros:
Great wine and beer selection

My kind of dining experience

It's a treat to dine at Salt Water Cafe, a restaurant near Mount Carmel Church in Bandra Reclamation, which offers excellent European cuisine. Apart from the food, there were three things that I loved about Salt Water Cafe: the all-wood decor, the arrangement of the tables (lots of elbow room, so others' conversations don't get in your way or the dining experience), and the friendliness of the staff. Went there last night and need I say their food was amazing! we were 4 of us and called for different items. I had ordered the Asparagus ravioli, which was out of this world, perfectly cooked pasta with a slight bite to eat, served in a deep dish plate with loads of butter sauce. I was in food nirvana! The other things on the table included a Snitzel Burger which was alright but the Smoked paprika chicken burger was soo good that i ended up overeating. They just loose 1 star fir ambience as we were seated outside and it was really dim!

Good food..3.5 just for the food

We actually went here on a sat at 12 and unfortunately they had not started lunch yet so we could only order from the breakfast or all day menu.

Ambience & Decor: This place is full of foreigners. The place looked like it was just partially done. Maybe they were trying to go in for a rustic look but I think the walls just looked shabby.

Food & Drinks: We ordered a veg sandwich with foccacia bread and a greek salad. The sandwich was really good and very filling. Despite being very hungry got full in just half a sandwich. The greek salad was very average. You felt like you were eating only lettuce despite there being some olives and cherry tomatoes. The feta cheese was the saving grace. The quantity of both is good but then I guess it should be for what you are paying for it.

We ordered the strawberry smoothie and apple blueberry smoothie. The strawberry smoothie was made with yogurt while the apple blueberry was made with skimmed milk. Thankfully low on the sugar but nothing very impressive. They did not have too much variety for desserts on display and neither did they seem too appealing.

They also sell different varieties of cheese and cold cuts.

Service: The service was good as one would expect

Damages: Paid Rs 750 for a salad, a sandwich and 2 smoothies

Overall an average experience maybe since we went at an odd time. I definately want to go try the main course since some of the dishes sounded yum.

Nice

The place is always full for lunch and dinner on weekends and requires a fair bit of waiting. It also gets very noisy and loud (esp. thanks to their happy hours). But the food is quite nice and the desserts are really good, esp the tomato risotto and the tiramisu ice cream.
Would like to give special mention to the valet - there is little to no parking close to the restaurant but the valets are very efficient and get the car from really far away in good time and are very courteous. Not the reason why you would go to a restaurant but it certainly makes going to the place a nicer experience.

Big dissapointment

I just went for a small meal at this restaurant.I have been to impressario restaurants before, but this experience was not half as good as the rest of them.I ordered a danish pastry which was like a sweet caramelised croissant. It was pretty okay.I also ordered for a flourless fudge cake with caramel crunch ice cream.caramel crunch ice cream did not taste like caramel. It tasted like a butterscotch ice cream.I complained-but they did not replace my order.Service was pathethic ! I left as a dissapointed customer!
When i compare it with a restaurant like indigo deli who replaces my order, salt water cafe truely lacks a competent staff.they are okay with seeing their customers unhappy.
P.s i did not get my exact ''change'' back.how cheap.i wont ask for a small amount-but it shows what kind of staff they have!

Experience worth repeating

I had been here earlier, but not in the recent past. Decided to meet up with friends on a wednesday at around 8 pm. Just a couple of tables occupied including ours, given the fact that it was a wednesday, breathed a sigh of relief. Friend recommended the Sangria and we ordered that, the first sip seemed a little weird. Not being very knowledgeable about Sangria, decided to keep quiet and the fruit helped ;)

We ordered their bread basket - warm with a pat of white butter, went very well with the fruit punch oops Sangria; quickly demolished and ordered another bread basket with a cheese platter, by the time that was brought, we had finished the Sangria Jug & I decided to voice my concern about the quality of wine, which everybody did agree. Our server said he would check and get back to us - though he did not till the time we left at midnight.

We ordered a bottle of Merlot and I decided to try the original Margarita salted and frozen (having had enough fruit for the day) The Margarita was nice but the first sip & my question was - Where's the Tequila? How much do you put? 60ml pat came the answer, I politely explained that there was no taste the server was prompt and said he would add some more, did it and all was right with the evening.

After an hour or so, whilst we were ready to eat, I asked for another Margarita - and here lies the difference between an Ok, good & excellent restaurant - It was perfect the second time around, in fact better than the first.

Not too hungry, we ordered a tomato lemon grass broth - nice, vegetarian risotto - good & probably would want to try a non vegetarian, plancha seared basa - very good, it literally hummed & fell onto the fork begging to be eaten, the accompanied porcini potatoes in citrus butter gave it a unique flavour of its own and the mashed potatoes really rounded it off.

Too stuffed to try any dessert, but that also gives me a chance to visit them soon.

Ok experience

I like experimenting with eating at different cafes in Bandra and since my sister did a whole lot of research before deciding on Salt Water, we decided to try it out.

Our drinks were super fabulous - my sister had a frozen strawberry daiquiri and I had something called 'Beat the Heat' which was a yummy concoction of mint, cucumber and kiwi. It was really refreshing so do try it out.

We had ordered a Caesar Salad with chicken - I would have like more options for starters apart from the usual salads. But it was again quite refreshing and nice to taste.

For the main course, which we got after ages (service was proportionate to the amount of people at the restaurant - slower as it got busier there), we had a Peppercorn Chicken and a Ravioli - the chicken was overgrilled and the ravioli was v v average. With the chicken, there was a strong pungent tasting salad on the side, which didnt go well the palate. The presentation was overall excellent however for both dishes.

Oh ps, there was a dead fly which had fallen from god knows where on the table. Not a nice thing to see before we started lunch.

So overall our experience ranged from average to decent.

COCKROACHES on table and bad attitude

I had guest who had come down from abroad and we were celebrating my niece’s 4th bthdy there. The food was average, other than the soups and some mushrooms that we ordered for starters everything else was just average. My lasagne visually looked amazing, but didn’t have any flavours. Guess the chef forgot to put any kind of seasoning. My wife's S/W a BLT had so much mustard that it was inedible. The fish that was ordered was again visually very appealing but lacked the taste expected from a place like this. But this was not the end. The attitude of the senior server/ waiter etc was like “why the hell are we here”. But the best was in the last when three small cockroaches started finding their food on our table. We did not want to create a scene as my niece’s bthday would have got spoilt as we had to still cut her cake. Come on , roaches on the table in a place like Salt water... and considering other then the server the management even did not bother to do anything or apologise. I could see all of them talking in hushed tones trying to just ignore it. But SAD VERY SAD and bad attitude. Guess thats why we did not enjoy the food also

Potential, but major service problems

The food and drinks we ordered were pretty good - not the best ever, but in comparison to the fancy shmancy hotel restaurants this place is competing with, probably as good and less expensive. The space is cool, if you go for the austere modern look. I sat on the roof and it was quite nice - palm trees and cool breezes, notwithstanding the traffic honking sounds on the street below.

The problem here, like with so many other places in the city (Aurus, Marriott) is the service. For a 5 star experience, you need to have 5 star wait staff too. Get it together, guys. The waiter could not answer the simplest questions about the menu. The order I got my foot items was 1) pasta 2) salad 3) bread plate, which is the exact opposite order I would've gotten this meal in the other 15 countries around the world I've eaten Italian dishes in. Even Lithuania can do this right. (No offense, Lithuania, but you've had 50 years of Soviet oppression to rise above. Good work!) Service was extremely slow, and as I was placed in a far corner on the roof, no one would come by my table for 15 minutes at a time to check on me and I had to walk over and shout at the staff to get their attention. So weak. But, as the food was all right, not too expensive, and the space was decent, I'll still give this place 3 stars.

Good/Bad

I've been here a couple of times now. The first time was a week after it opened and teething problems were still being ironed out.

On the second visit things had improved. Most notably the service. Menu awareness on ingredients was still lacking though.

The setting is completely different from the first Salt Water Cafe, which will be sadly missed. As such, there is little to link it to its former sibling and so arrive here with an open-mind for a new experience.

The bar on the first floor is intimate, and the al fresco dining on the roof is also pleasing. The road noise can get bad, however.

I'm sure on my third visit (maybe breakfast - let me know if anyone is free to join me!) things will have got better still.

Just manages to be worth its salt...

For those who fretted that Chowpatty's Salt Water Grill shut its doors, fear not, because you now have Salt Water Cafe in Bandra. Although, the lovely sea view may have been replaced by BMC's never ending road construction work right outside.

As soon as you enter, on the right you will find a mouth watering display of cold cuts, cheese and desserts. But we're not talking about the food yet! The cafe unfolds to your left and is quite airy and spacious. The decor is quite spartan with simple wooden furniture but the few backless benches that are there may not always be the most comfortable option. White walls and large windows make room for enough natural light to enter the restaurant.

The place is wi-fi equipped so makes for a good meeting place and is also ideal for a laid back meal with a friend or a chat over coffee. There is a tiny bar area upstairs but this one is quite unassuming. Nothing to write home about.

Now for the food, they have three separate menus - for breakfast, lunch and dinner and this is besides their all day menu. Try the Traditional Chicken Burger (Rs. 350) from the all day menu and the Shiitake Tea (Rs. 130). The burger is just the right amount of cheesy and juicy. Besides, there's not that much that can go wrong with a burger. The Shiitake Tea however, made from shiitake mushrooms, is very flavourful. A common complaint though, is that the food tends to be undercooked sometimes and needs to be sent back into the kitchen. For desert, wrap up with a Strawberry Cheesecake which is fairly nice.

Service is pleasant and quick. The waiters are well clued in and are able to make proper recommendations. All in all, it's worth a visit if you can learn to ignore the traffic outside and wait for your food to go through a second innings in the kitchen!

Treat your Taste Buds!!

When I went to Salt water cafe the only thing I carried was high expectation. The place has humble exteriors. Just at the entrance, the place appears more of a patisserie rather than a restaurant displaying wonderful pastries and cheese cakes. On moving further inside finally you see the restaurant. The place has a tranquil and soothing feel to it possibly because of the decor which has classy wooden furniture and white colored walls. The ambience is really nice and somehow encourages conversations.

Food is simply superb and every dish is crafted to perfection. Be it the Assorted breads served with cream cheese as Freebie or any item from the menu. We ordered Asparagus Ravioli and Mushroom Cous Cous. The taste was just amazing. Though I liked Ravioli better. In dessert we had Tiramisu which was just perfect but the taste of Liquor was missing. The only area where I can complain is service as I ordered an appetizer and they just forgot. Served me with the main course and appetizer never came.

All in all it is a perfect place to treat your taste buds and is a must try for every Food Lover.

Disappointed Loyal Customer

I have been a loyal supporter of Salt Water Cafe since I was posted to Mumbai three years ago. All my friends know that I love to go there, so much so that we even had the farewell for our boss there (we booked the mezzanine area).

Last night's (7 Sep) experience changed everything. Initially, we were glad to be given a table on a Friday night though we did not have reservations. The staff do recognise me so I hope it was because of my loyal patronage.

Not long after the lovely bread basket came, a roach was seen crawling on the table and we had to alert the waiter to remove it. The managers were vert apologetic but sometimes doing just that is not enough. If your restaurant doesnt have the concept of service recovery, maybe you should start. Such things dont cost you an arm and a leg but would have long mileage on gaining goodwill. If you have, then your managers must learn how to use them.

It's nnot first time something had gone wrong, but I have always tolerated it because I love this place. So after the roach, we were told they would change the table buy it didnt happen quick enough before the food came. By then, I cant be bothered moving. Later, we finished our meal by 945pm or so but my friend was still trying to down her mojito. Yes I can understand there were waiting patrons, but after what happened (roach), the least u could do was not rush us. Whats worse the table immediately right next to us had barely ordered anything; they arrived earlier, also two people and were chatting away. Shouldn't they have been asked to vacate their table too?

Totally disappointed. Loyalty doesnt mean anything here, maybe they are only interested in celebrities and ultra rich people who come in big flashy cars.

COOL CALM & DECENT

WAS RECOMMENDED BY A FRIEND , SO TOOK MY PARENTS WHO WERE IN FROM DELHI.
WAS COMPLETELY FLOORED BY THE HOSPITALITY, AS WE WALKED IN A SUNDAY LUNCH IT WAS COMPLETELY OCCUPIED.
WE THOUGHT WE WOULD BE TURNED OUT, AS WE HAD NO RESERVATIONS, AND ONLY THOSE HAVING RESERVATIONS HAD BEEN IN QUE.
BUT THE WORDS BY THE MANAGER COMPLETELY FLOORED ME { NO BODY WALKS OUT OF MY RESTAURANT DISATISFIED }.
HE MADE US WAIT AT THE BAR , AND WE GOT A TABLE LATER ALSO WITH AN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT { REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR PATIENCE TO WAIT }

WHAT WE ORDERED [ SPICED TENDERLOIN , JOHN DORY , NICOISE SALAD , TOMATO SOUP , AND THE CHOCO FONDANT }

One of my favorite places.

Chances are you'll find me eating at Salt Water Cafe at least couple of times a week.

Firstly, the interiors are minimal and elegant. Feels very Scandinavian if you will. The lighting is appropriate. The overall layout of the restaurant is an example of timeless interior design. It feels sophisticated without being fussy.

Coming to the food, the menu is limited but well planned out. I've tried a lot of dishes on the menu but the ones that stand out for me include the John Dory, the shrimp calamari ajillo, capellini, beef fillet and the chargrilled rawas. Those are all consistently good.

The soups are disappointing when it comes to quantity although they taste pretty damn good. Its served in what can only be described as a fancy saucer as opposed to a bowl. My cat could lap it up pretty rapidly.

The salads are decent although I've only really had the chicken ceasar a bunch of times.

The dessert options are adequate and by all accounts they taste great. Wish they would have couple of sugar-free Splenda based ones for the diet conscious aka Me.

The prices are on par with what you pay at most good places. I'm not complaining.

I'd recommend this place to anyone.

Brilliant food and service

We were at the Salt Water Cafe for the Burrp and Yes Bank Chefs table last Friday..This place is a favourite of ours anyway and we looked forward to a great dinner in the company of fellow enthusiasts. And boy, were we wowed.. The terrace seating was lovely given the cool weather and it beats sitting downstairs any day..The service was especially attentive, yet unobtrusive and was the icing on the cake really!..
The amuse bouches that started off our meal were fun especially the cheesy choux pastry bite! The potato and leek soup was served beautifully.. the beetroot in the salad was really well marinated and flavoursome and paired with chevre is anyway a winning combo..The rawas main was well cooked, but it was the chicken in the spicy jus ( with reduced balsamic?) that was an absolute absolute winner ..even given my penchant for being underwhelmed by chicken mains usually..! The raspberry sorbet to cleanse our palate was beautifully tart with pieces of fruit mingling with the icy goodness, and did not really need the watermelon soup! And while the cake in the dessert was a humongous slice, it was the salted burnt caramel icecream that accompanied it that stole its thunder!! I could have happily had a tubful of the same..yummmmm..
Great food, lovely company, superb service, it was the best meal we had had at the Cafe till date. Thanks Burrp and the Cafe for the dinner and kudos to Chetna for keeping the atmosphere lively and the conversations going !!

Christmas Delights :)

I got a message on facebook from Salt Water Cafe the other day telling me that they were featuring a Christmas menu. Naturally being a Salt Water Cafe fan, I just had to go! And let me tell you, I was absolutely delighted!

I got my boyfriend and myself a table on the terrace. We ordered ourselves martinis from their special cocktail menu and proceeded to the food. Sticking to the recommendations in the message, I had the Maple Roasted Duck Salad for apps followed by the Coq au Vin for mains and the Christmas Pudding for dessert. This has got to be one the best meals I’ve had in a while and if you’re reading this, you should definitely go and try our their Christmas menu!

Excellent Breakfast

If you're looking for a good place to get breakfast on a Sunday that is reasonably priced, given the variety offered, head over to Salt Water Cafe near Lilavati Hospital / MET College in Bandra.

The breads, options of eggs, waffles and cereals (!) will definitely leave you filled. Despite the slightly slow service that we got, I'd say that you're getting a bargain of a meal. The fact that two people had a filling meal at under 600 bucks is also worth a mention.

looks can be deceiving

so i went to salt water cafe for my birthday dinner with my husband and all the expectation and eagerness of going here flew right out of the door when i walked in.
i honestly think that they should give all guest ear plugs or something when they enter instead of the array of meats and desserts at the entrance. the place is loud and certainly not suitable for a quiet dinner. theres no ambient music so all you hear is people shouting and screaming over each other.
the food...well i would've liked it if i knew what i was eating!!!! fancy names with no descriptions doesn't help anybody!!!! when the staff was asked for recommendations all they gave were names, not even an idea of what is in the dish!!!!
all in all i wouldn't recommend this place for a quiet meal or peaceful dinning.

Good, well done.

Walked into Salt Water cafe on Sunday for a late lunch..the atmosphere that this place tries to pull off is quite good, however, the staff look unmotivated, the cutlery is very nice same goes for the tables and seats. For Starters we had: French fries, grilled veggies and caesars salad, everything was nice, except in grilled veggies we got like 8 pieces of vegetable grilled in pesto, thats disappointing quantity to be honest. Beverages were fine. Main courses dishes were very good white snapper, bassa and risotto all were well cooked and had distinguished flavors very nice, especially the bassa dish, desserts were excellent, will i head back here, maybe...for a quiet lunch.

The worst service ever

Read the reviews on this place. Deepa52 and others have complained of the poor service. We went for dinner on 22 June. Valet was staring in the distance, parked car myself and walked. As usual arrogant waiter gave us a table away from the windows. Ordered a Chicken Caeser salad with egg, Waiter says extra charge, OK I say, end up paying 60 rs for one poached egg in the salad. Ordered Chicken with fries for mains, get it with potato mash, ask for fries, they come 20 minutes later when chicken is cold. Send it all back. In the meantime another clumsy waiter smashes a glass near our table. To add insult to injury they charge a 10% service charge, what service? Manager offers me free dessert, Dude, I have not had the entree yet. He promises to get me fries the next time I am here. Not a chance, Please avoid this place.

Chilling at Salt Water with Foster's

The food here is simply fantastic. Never disappoints. I love thetenderloin burger which came with tomato and raisin chutney, along with some pasta which had soba noodles beneath it and the perfect chilled out moment followed next with the waiter serving chilled Foster's. I chilled like never before. I used to wonder why the Tagline - Art of Chilling? I finally understood why. So the next time you go to the Salth Water Cafe, don't forget to call for that chilled out Foster's lager ;)

You pay for what you get - good for a special nite

Superb place to eat. Food is as good as Western food can get in Mumbai and manages to not be ridiculously expensive (though it's not cheap) for lunch or dinner. If you want to have a delicious American breakfast, this is the best place by far to go, though beware of the coffee prices: they add up so fast they can end up costing way more than the food. Love that American free refill on the java!

Great food, but lousy atmosphere

2 of us ordered soups and a main course.

Aside from botching up the soup order, service was ok.

Don't sit upstairs - the bar counter is VERY noisy, lots of mixing and grinding as they prepare cocktails.

The food is very good, expect very high quality produce and raw material to be used.

Terrible Service

Portions are sufficient, service terrible and prices steep. While the food is pretty decent, this place definitely needs to pull its socks up. Bombay has no dearth of great restaurants and standing out requires more than a snooty attitude (I hope).

I wanted to make my last meal in Bombay an indulgent one. After much discussion we decided to try Saltwater Cafe in Bandra. The first thing that struck us was the service. They kept us waiting (even though we had reserved a table), and left us in limbo for over fifteen minutes. Bored and tired, we jumped at the first vacant table and claimed it as our own and then began the long process of catching the waiter's eye. If you haven't already figured it out, terrible service will emerge as a recurrent theme in this review.

We placed the order for food and drinks. The drinks order took ages to arrive and it was all mixed up. The waiter was not entirely sure what we ordered or what he was serving. None of the drinks were spectacular, though Sassy's Melon Sangria was a fine choice.

The food arrived in bits and parts. Kocch's food arrived halfway through our meal (Maybe it was the chef's punishment for ordering a sandwich). On the bright side, the food was pretty good. A special mention to the impeccably done Lasagna. Sassy's steak was well done. The pastas were decent but neither blew my mind.

Being firm believers in the 'there-is-always-room-for-dessert' theory, we couldn't leave without indulging our sweet tooths. The baked cheesecake was 'melt-in-your-mouth' delicious. The (flour less?) chocolate cake that we made much fun of turned out to be wonderful and surprisingly, not too heavy. The tiramisu was so-so and my least favourite of the desserts.

The loo at the Saltwater Cafe is cute and clean.

Pricing: Rs. 1000 per person

Bandra Central

Salt Water Cafe is like a world in its own in the middle of Bandra's hustle and bustle. From its muted tones to its soothing environment, they want you to step in and relax.

I especially love their extensive and innovative cocktail selections and love sipping on one while I browse through the menu. They always have interesting specials or promotions on and currently there is an Onion Fest on which I am going to sample this weekend.

It's also a good option for breakfast... Their scrambled eggs are divine!

New Found Love!!

I had visited this place around a year back and didn't find the food very tempting.
But after a lot of coaxing by my friends i visited it last month and fell in love with it so much so that i again visited it last week before coming back to Rajasthan. The menu has been amazingly conceptualised and all the dishes. All soups and desserts are amazing and worth a try and I mean all of them. The grilled peppercorn chicken and the Pan seared Jon Dory are my favourites along with the chocolate fondant.
The best part about this cafe is that it is a really chilled place with very friendly service. One of the best in bandra according to me. Must try!!!

Salt Water in a cafe avtar...

The classical Salt Water Grill - whatever happened to it? Bombay's loss and the jerks in the power houses don't even get it that SW Grill was actually a jewel in bombay!!!

anyways the cafe in its avatar is good - just too good.

i like everything abt it but find the pricepoints on the up for the quantity and hence i dont see it as VFM

like the decor, food, drinks and the paraphernalia...don't much like the dull rustic look - but on hindsight, i guess it also adds to the decor that i like...so i take my words back.

desserts are very good. service is friendly. the young chef roaming around the public areas is good too i guess...did seem to be a bit cocky though - guess all works now adays - as far as his food's good, what goes of my father?

nice place indeed; bespectacled manager is bang on - polite, effective and solid in his craft.

riyaz amlani and team have done it again as always - kudos to all those who we don't see in the front of the house.

go and spend time there - it opens at 9 am and has awesome b/fast items...

dont like the idea of having some good items ONLY for dinner - doesnt make sense - i guess the dinner chef is different???am getting cocky aint i?

thank you for a lovely place in bandra - wish the bmc work is done and over before the rains...

Slow relaxing dinner-food something to be desired

My local friends rave about this place, so let me start by saying that it wasn't bad.
Ambience is nice... Lights, decor and even the club/lounge music works in it's favor. Staff is attentive and treated me well.
Food on the other hand was ... OK. Wasn't bad, but not great either. Ordered bbq chicken salami s/w - meat was good, but was on a plain white bread with no taste or character. A better bread like a foccacia would have done wonders. On same front, Ice tea was a bit too sweet. Flourless chocolate cake was the saving grace and that just might have saved the night.

Might have been just an off night for the venue or am being too picky-but it did come highly recommended and the above average menu prices should reflect on food quality. Will give it another try again.

Yummy!

An all-day deli and café that opens early enough to bake a fresh bagel and shuts late enough to concoct an after dinner drink… What’s not to love! I’d say get yourself a table on the terrace at night and sip on a glass of wine while waiting for the Red Pepper & Potato soup and the Tenderloin Carpaccio to reach your table. And then decide between the Pan Seared Trout or the Australian Lamb Shanks for mains before you order the Hazelnut Mousse Flan for dessert. Yummy!

BAD is an UNDERSTATEMENT

We waited more than half an hour to be served reheated frozen pancakes, either that or the cook has no idea that a pancake isn't supposed to look like a reheated Rava Dosa. 20 minutes after asking for a Spanish Omelette, the waiter tells us he didn't even send our order to the kitchen! What a let down !

Always had a great image of the original salt water. On venturing into its non beach cousin, the interior was pleasing, and I quite looked forward to the experience ( lunch). However, the experience came crashing down, as soon as I realised that the waiter and then the manager were so INFLEXIBLE in modifying a pasta dish ( and the only reason being - its not like that on the menu - so cant do anything about it and sorry the Chef is not here either !). On being pushed, all the manager could muster was "I am sorry - I am just the manager here !" Huh ??

In today's times, in any restaurant which is of a certain standing / calibre, "slight modification" of dishes is quite standard. In fact, many go out of their way to make an experience really special and drum up something which is not even on the menu !

In this case, I was not even given a logical reason why they couldnt - just the feeble excuses above !

Needless to say, I stormed out and that didnt bother the "manager" either ! No wonder the place looked "empty" during peak lunch hours !

BURRRRRP!!!!

Well, my latest review will require an additional effort.. This effort party stems from the fact that I'm exhausted from my experience at Salt Water Cafe and partly because I'm as stuffed as I can ever get.

Since I work close to Lilavati and being my Boss's farewell lunch, we trooped into Salt Water Cafe a little post 1.45pm. Pleasantly surprised to see the Cafe bustling with activity which is always a good sign. The first thing that strikes you is the ambiance; demure and stylish.

Securing a table was easy and the steward was extremely polite, prompt and attentive to each and every table which he was serving on the upper level. The Bar looked well stocked with the bar tender doing his bit in doling out crazily hued cocktails and mocktails, and with a smile on his face! Now how often do you see that?!

Next the food: We ordered the Tomato & Lemongrass soup, which was pronounced as an excellent combination. The Cream of Chicken soup was a meal in itself with the broth simmered to perfection with the right hint of garlic and pepper. It was a delight to dip in and taste the soups.

For the main course, Jerk Spiced Pomfret, Chicken Peppercorn and Spaghetti was ordered. The Pomfret was well done and juicy, the Chicken Peppercorn was amazing and the sauce was perfect, complimenting the pepper on the chicken. To wrap it all up, the chocolate mud pie with spicy guava sauce and ice cream was put forth and didn't disappointing us either.

The hallmark of the afternoon was the service. A lot of restaurants have sublime settings with dazzling menu's but fall short on the most important factor to make a guests experience memorable. The steward was gracious enough to ask if we were enjoying our meal and was prompt and courteous at all times.

I will rate Salt Water Cafe 5/5 for the food | 5/5 for the service | 4/5 for the ambiance (did not like the sight of draped tables in the open air section. Looked rather tacky)

I will definitely recommend SWC to as many people as possible. Please keep up the good work and it will be a pleasure to come over more often.

Below our expectations

FIrst of all they have 2 pre-defined timings for dinner; 8pm and 10.30pm but they do accommodate in betweens fortunately.

We were looking to have salad & soup so we asked the waiter about the soups, we were thinking about the Salt Water's Famous Madras Curry Chicken Broth & the Tomato + Lemongrass + Veg/Chicken Tortellino and the waiter told us that both were clear soups. I found that strange as one says Tomato but we still went with our instincts and ordered the Tomato + Lemongrass + Chicken Tortellino for 150; the quantity was really less even for one person. I mean how much could it cost them to give a decent quantity of soup to a customer? Or even explain what we're ordering?
Must I mention the soup was good, it was mostly the quality of service and the quantity that bothered me.

Next being the salad we ordered the Salt Water Caesar Chicken + Paremesean Croutons + Bacon Bits for 250. We didnt get any Paremesean Croutons in our salad and is 250 really a good price for a salad? I dunno I dont go to too many places ordering salads but it does seem a bit high. Again I feel they could improvise on the quantity, it was rather less for a person who could eat well.

The Main menu had lots of sea food and we found really nothing interesting to continue our meal here...the main course choice is very limited and as some one reviewed earlier pre-made.

Dessert choices were decent but we continued our meal elsewhere!

Basillico would've been a much better choice...better choices and good ambience.

This place must be getting it's business only due to its name, although the other place at Marine Drive was better this one isn't any comparison.

I wish I could run this place for a day ...

... then I would show them how to do it properly!

A friend and I went here for breakfast yesterday. Initially we just wanted coffee (think Gloria Jean's) but then we remembered that SWC was open for breakfast (and that I needed to conclude my last review - see below).

It was 9.15am. We got a table no trouble as the place was empty, bar one couple. The staff were cold and looked unhappy. In fact, the security walla at the door gave us a warmer greeting than anyone inside...

We ordered coffee and looked through the tempting breakfast menu. Our appetites were peaking, but then were deflated in no time at all with the dull tones of the waiter who was full of bad news: the cereal I wanted was not available. Only one juice to choose from. It was all getting too difficult for a Saturday morning, and made us wonder why we didn't cook ourselves after all?

The scrambled eggs on a bagel were OK. The eggs were cooked nicely, but the bagel was very chewy. (The Philadelphia cream cheese; however, was not required.) The "hash browns" as stated on the menu (note the plural) turned out to be one lonely hash on the side of my plate - along with half a tomato. The presentation was poor as over half my plate was devoid of anything except shiny white ceramic. The cutlery needed a polish too.

My friend had the scones after his omelette. He had to chase the staff 3 times before he got his (apricot?) jam! I had a cinnamon swirl pastry. Size-wise it was great, but taste-wise, hmm. Let's just say I ate the swirl and left the rest. And why make 2 of these pastries the standard portion size? One is more than enough. The again, perhaps they were trying to clear old stock?

It's such a shame that this cafe lets itself down so many times by doing the simple stuff badly. The place looks great, the bakery section too, but the staff could be better and the availability of items is inexcusable.

I've been here 3 times now. Unless desperate, i.e. my cooker blows up, the shops are closed or I lose the use of my right arm, I doubt I would return to SWC for another disappointing experience. Sad, but true.

A nice Sunday morning brunch

This was my first Sunday morning brunch sort of outing since landing here in India and a big gracias to some dear ones to invite me here knowing my passion for good food in classy settings.

SWC as it seems to be more populary known sits in a quite nook of Bandra reclamation area near the big hospital. Parking at 1030 am I thought would be daunting but the valets make sure it is not.

As you enter inside, your morning mood livens up with a cheerful display of bakery items and classic deli stuff (cheese, breads, pastries and cured meats) in a big glass counter as you enter with aromatic strains of videshi cofee powder waft through the hallways.
The setting is bright and woody with nice clean benches and ..oh yes they also have cushion mats if you need to pick up to your bench.
I guess some wall painting and perhaps a clean up of the rusty corrugated aircon at the coner seat could help.

The menu on parchment paper is mostly brunch stuff- museli, bagels, muffins, eggs to order. The lunch items start from 1130 am and the menu included some interesting choices of s/ws , burgers and pastas.
We orders a strawberry smoothie (inr 170) and watermelon juice. Both arrived in 5 minutes and quite chilled enough to sip through with the taste of the berries in my case coming well into your mouth.
We had ordered a spanish omelette, bagel with scambles eggs and fluffy eggs to order with a chicken sausage (charged extra).

These come with toast and cream cheese on the side. Make sure you ask fo some more as they give you one slice which was not enough for us hungry folks. The cream cheese was deliciious without being too cheesy and heavy.
The only blemish being the bagel and scrambled egges came nearly 10 minutes after the other 2 mains. We had to remind the service staff twice.
The spanish omelette with zucchini, tomatoes and potatoes was bang on.. big, fluffy and hearty. Each morsel was superb though make sure you do add some seasoning over it.
The scambled egg on bagel was hot, light and while the dish looks of medium proportions, it is a heartening meal by itself as vouched by my fellow diner.
The fluffy eggs to order were polished off by my fellow diner and the chicken sausage was tender, light brown and grilled to perfection.

We ordered muffiins and the buttermilk and apple muffin was warm, crumbled nicely without becoming a powdery mess as sometimes muffines do and had a medium sweetness to it.

Coffee was the Jamaican Blue for me and my friends had the jasmine and mint tea. The coffee comes in its own plunger and a small dose of milk that you can choose to pass by if you don't fancy mixing it.

The soft music and a crowd that keeps coming and going (with a few international diners) and ladies dressed in sunday attire make this a cozy spend your time place.

A great sunday morning and definitely next time perhaps the pasta and the cheese cake to be sampled.

Oh and the cute little Chinese baby girl who kept smiling and waving at us...while her parents were happily tucking into their meal..a belated Gong Xi Fa Cai (happy chinese new year)

they've got it right

after getting mixed reviews finally decided to try this place out..

to start, with the bad - its really wierd, but all the tables have one section that has back support and the other doesnt...so on a table meant for 4, 2 persons out of the 4 are uncomfortablel...and it does get a little annoying sittting without any support..
next, the desserts,,,one does expect the desserts at such places to be the hightlight of their dinner, but sadly it didnt live up to the expectations,,
we ordered for the flourless chocolate fudge cake which was good but the ice cream served along with it tasted weird,,,the creme brule was also just ok,,

now to the good - the ambience definately..the seating arrangement is well laid out so you dont have too many tables cramped up in a little area..(if only something could be done about the back support issue as mentioned above)..morever, the idea of having a rooftop section is nice..although we opted for the inner section,,,
and obviosly the FOOD..mushroom soup, the sandwiches and the burger was great,,we ordered for a risotto which was nice and the penne in tomato+veggies highly exceeded our expectations,,the complimentary breads nice..the mustard cole slaw was awesome!

they could however do with a few more veg options..found that a little limited..esp in the sandwich and burger section..
have heard that their breakfast is awesome...will be back..

damages - 2800 for 4..without drinks...a tad bit on the higher side,,but worth it coz of the food,,(could improve on the dessert section..)

decent place to unwind :)

A nice cozy place to hangout at Chapel road, Bandra opp Mad Over Donuts. Went there on 15th August for dinner with wife and a friend. The section at the ground floor seems quite comfortable and a nice place to unwind, however we preferred to be seated at the terrace. The staff is very friendly and the service is amazing. Being Independence Day, a request for Budweiser was politely refused. We tried Plum mocktail and Kiwi frappe. Both were prepared nicely. However, Veg Lasagne was the pick of the meal and is highly recommended. We didn't really like the Veg Deli Salad. But once we informed them of the same, the waiters exchanged it with a Veg Greek Salad without creating any fuss about it. The price is reasonable considering the quality of food, ambience and the location. The staff and the manager engages in a light banter to make the guests feel comfortable. Overall a decent place to relax and have a light Continental/Italian meal at the end of the day.

Delicious food, cud be better at service

Went there for a quiet sunday brunch.
Ordered 3 teas, 1 coffee and breads, 2 main course - pomfret and a chicken dish, Hazelnut flan for dessert. We just loved everything we ate. Kudos to the chef! Everything was delicious and very tasty! Only service could be improved to be more prompt and courteous...the waiter kept arguing with us, thus wasting time, that we ordered for the tea to come after lunch and not during, instead he could have just gone and got it. Other than that, no complaints! If u want great food, this is the place to go.

SALT, WATER AND A BREATH OF FRESH AIR

I have been frequenting this place for the past 2 yrs and waited so long to write this review honestly thinking they would mess up down the line.

I cant think of anything to be critical about, right from the service, the food and the wonderful friendly staff. My usual poison is the best Bloody Mary any side of town. My usual main course is the Seared Chicken Legs or the Creoled Duck, none can even try to make them better. The lamb soup is a meal by itself as are the burgers with fresh meat and aromatic chips. The open sandwiches are a bit on the boring side but then there has to be a step back somewhere or else they would be charging more on the already expensive menu. Treat yrself to an exclusive brunch or dinner on any day of the week. This place beats yr indigos etc. by a mile with its imported ingrediants and its authencity. Way To Go!!

A cafe worth visiting!

I love this cafe for a number of reasons...
1. the hospitable staff
2. great bread baskets
3. interesting pairings in desserts
and 4. the great lip smacking food!!

It is everything you look for when you head out to eat.
During my last visit..i tried the chicken soup and seriously not being a soup person myself ..me and my friends were fighting over it! it was DELICIOUS!! not too creamy, perfect chicken stalk flavor and right on point with the seasoning. Just hoped that quantity would be a bit more!

Moving on we called for the grilled veg tomato risotto with parmesan crisp and a spanish spiced chicken burger with crisp golden fries and mustard slaw.

The risotto was one the best that I have had in Mumbai...the risotto at Cafe zoe is divine too! But the tomato risotto was perfect. The rice still had a bit to it, it was cloggy and stuck together, the tomato flavor was there but not overpowering, the freshness of the basil did come through and the crunchiness on the vegetables and parmesan crisp added another dimension to the dish!
I dont really know what was so spanish about the burger but it was juicy and perfectly cooked. The fries were crisp and golden and the mustard slaw gave an acidity balance to the whole dish!
Then it was time for the dessert and boy was it wonderful. Perfectly baked chocolate fondant which oozed with chocolate when cut open. Orange segment and mint on the top did provide a great citrus kick, though it was just one segment and 1 mint leaf..it did help for that 1 bite.
But the raspberry sorbet that it was served with gratefully provided the much needed citrus to the decadent chocolate dessert!
In all..I was a happy stuffed diner and would surely go back!!

Everything is good but really poor service.

The staff need to be polished , they doesn't know that what product they r selling , the management need to take a step forward for the orientation of basic service, i just was pissed of with the service been on monday i was with one of my friend just came here for lunch and ordered a chicken dish and one veg mains from the menu but the staff couldn't explain us about how it is been made, they doesn't know about the basic sauce which are been used for a particular dish.
Overall experience: Food 5/5, Amb 2/5, Service 0/5, price 3/5.

Great place to hangout!

Last night I went to Salt Water Cafe for dinner with my office colleagues and had a great experience. The waiters were polite enough to find us a good place to sit and even to suggest some good dishes. We ordered Grilled Veg Pasta along with the Mushroom Soup, which was served pretty quickly. The food was tasty and finger licking too. I had heard that this place was a great place to hangout at, which now I realized was very true indeed.

Just Short of Perfect

It's ironic that it took a friend from Bangalore to introduce us to the culinary powerhouse that Salt Water Cafe is. We went for a chilled out dinner to celebrate a 25th and the overall experience was certainly a memorable one.
We loved the place from the minute we handed over the car keys to the valet. Don't be fooled by it's seemingly small size. The restaurant has three seating areas, though the ground floor is best lit and most happening by the looks of it. We had to wait on the terrace for fifteen minutes and face the wrath of Bandra mosquitoes before being shifted downstairs.
Being a vegetarian, I usually know what to order without even looking at the menu, but at Salt Water Cafe I was spoilt for choice. It was a real shame that my first preference for both the starter and main course weren't availabe that night. The bread sack and cream cheese is a stroke of genius, and if you aren't carefull, you could stuff your face with just that after soaking the warm bread with olive oil left over from the marinated button mushrooms and be perfectly content.
The main course was a delight through and through. The presentation was impeccable, the quantity generous and the aroma mouth-watering. The vegetable lasagna was one of the best I've had in the city and is a worthy competitor to Churchill's trusted favourite.
The others on the table each ordered a dish with a different meat, and judging by the collective sighs, they were all pretty damn delicious. A special mention (at my nama Bengalru friend's insistence) must be made of the Spiced Spanish Chorizo Stew.
We didn't need much goading to go for the dessert, though our stuffed bellied constricted us to just one amongst the 6 of us. The mango cheesecake was the chosen one and though not disappointing, it wasn't exceptional. The mango sorbet served alongside tasted exacty like frozen mango pulp (ras) and polised off in seconds.
Our server was very forthcoming with suggestions and attentive to our needs. The ambience was pleasing, the food a delight to all the senses. If only they had all the ingredients and the wine we'd originally chosen. The evening would have been nothing short of perfect.

Tip: The benches will lure you, but go for the comparatively boring looking seats with back-rests. You'll enjoy your long meal much more. Also, don't hesitate to ask the management any seemingly silly questions about the fare. They humoured us when there was an internal argument regarding set and baked cheese cake.

Pathetic!

OMG, what an experience it was! Slow sloppy service, pathetic attitude of the waiters and couple that with undercooked pasta & food poisoning - describes our experience at Salt Water Cafe. Pathetic is actually an understatement! We ordered for some crostini, mushroom soup, chicken soup, Ravioli and Penne Pasta with sundried tomato in Jalapeno sauce. The first helping of crostini & soup came really fast but post that we did not get anything on our table for the 75 minutes or so. And Our guess is that the mushroom soup was the culprit for food posisoning, my poor friend who is on a brief visit to Mumbai is now bed ridden. I honestly want to sue the cafe if possible. Am even more disappointed because the waiters' attitude was unacceptable. When we gave our feedback(about the pasta being undercooked and the absence of sun dried tomato in the pasta), the waiter started defending the horrible food that was front of us. Also he was so sloppy falling all over our table. For a place which is highly recommended by Times Food Guide, I am clearly disappointed. The only saving grace was the ravioli.I would not recommend a visit

All Talk No Show!

Visited twice last week. After the first below average experience and reading rather good reviews i gave the place a second try. same result = below average. Ordered 2 vegetarian and 2 non-veg main course dishes. Food was cold, tasteless though well presented. Our veg friends barely got through a couple of bites and left the food (veg lasagne, veg burger). The service is impersonal and the bill is whisked away from the table by hawk like stewards who do not seem to care to wait for a tip to be left as they're getting their 10% service charge.

THE SERVICE

The food was excellent, BUT THE SERVICE STANK.

EVERYTHING took so long, it was like no one was in a hurry to shake a leg.

Then, as the cafe began filling up, it got very hot & the maitre d' had to be told to increase the coldness of the restaurant.

C'MON GUYS: THE FOOD IS REALLY GOOD ITALIAN. DON'T RUIN THE WHOLE THING WITH THE LOUSY SERVICE. It's like there are so many wait staff, but each one is bumping into the other & DOING NOTHING.

My brother , sis-in-law & niece who are world travellers even thought the food was PAR EXCELLENCE, but on a scale of 1-10, service was a 2.

SOMETHING NEEDS TO GIVE FOLKS. It's all nice & well to have a relaxed ambience, but for EVERYTHING we needed to call the waiter: drinks, garlic bread, food, dessert..............

COME ON PEOPLE, I'M SURE YOU CAN DO BETTER THAN THAT.

Terrible

Its one of those new places that is thoroughly disappointing !...The location to start with is a little off, and has no connection to the name unlike its predecessor.
The space inside is the now commanplace concrete grey, and in addition has no colour accents at all, making it look quite boring.
The most dissappointing part: FOOD!
We ordered 8 drinks for all of us(non-alcoholic). 2 people got allergies out of the same drink!... The mouth and eyes started burning. The appetizers were not even mediocre and in ridiculous portions! The cuisine was generally confused-experimental!
The main course took over 50 minutes and we expected a well-cooked meal. What came on our plates were measely morsels of food, worse cooked than any other restaurant! The roast chicken was not marinated and merely tasted like it was boiled and served with a generic brown sauce.
The staff was not knowledgeable and the manager quite snooty and was not concerned about our complaints.
It was an over-all "who-cares!" attitude, which definitely guarantees that I would never consider going back!

worth trying for a change

First, I love the vibe of this place. I love the decor, the lighting, and the general mood it evokes. Second, the staff is very attentive, and we all know what a difference that makes!
Third, lets get to the food. My veggie friends loved the risotto (I liked it too, thought it was a little tooo cheesy and salty). The veggie pasta was on par with other city restaurants. I had a yummy chicken starter, that was a crunchy deep fried chicken...... I also had a rawas, which I really liked. My friend ordered the lamb, which was divine, and the best i ever had. The rest of the dishes were reasonably priced, and on par with other restaurants in the city.
What stood out for me was the presentation of the food. IT was really good....
the selection of sangrias was out standing...
an advise , since the place is very packed , should have some , seating or a waiting lounge.....

Tried being there , whenever was in Mumbai , but was really tied up enough,..

It took us a bit to get the window table we had asked for earlier , but the day wasn’t spoilt waiting for it , we were escorted to the noisy bar , were our dirty martinins made to perfection made up for all the waste of time.
I love your concept of happy hour Sundays .
I had ordered jon dory and my two friends went for fluffy omlettes , but we drank to our fill…
The billing took a wee bit of time more as we intended to pay separately..
But all ended well ..

Stuck Up n Stubborn ....

I've been to this place at least 10 times now if not more... Only to promise myself once again, never to come back ... I must admit, the food has usually been good.. My biggest problem with this place is the attitude of the staff...
Any requests or questions or suggestions are instantly responded with a NO... you cannot make a change in your sandwich / pasta / risotto - you must eat it the way the staff and the restaurant decided and not how you wish to eat it... Being a Deli / Cafe, i feel they must be a lot more flexible and cater to what the customers want rather than what they want to force down your throat...

Ask for a dish with less salt - Not Possible
Ask for veges in your risotto - Not Possible
Ask for some extra spice - Not Possible
Ask for something as simple as a basic sandwich off the menu - Impossible
Ask for some extra feta cheese in ur Greek Salad - Someone will come and tell you that it will be charged extra (how petty!!) you agree to pay extra some other person comes to tell you after 10 mins. That it’s over.... someone else asks for another Greek salad after half hour and guess what?? It comes with feta cheese which was actually over... and I can go on and on....

What frustrates me is that this has not happened once... It’s happened every time except for that one time i asked for just coffee... I think all the staff including the so called manager is informed by the management clearly not to entertain a customer with requests... Guess the hospitality business is not really meant for these kinds of people...

My suggestion: If you are not really a foodie who sometimes wishes to make a few changes here and there so that you can enjoy a dish more ... ull love this place.. the food in general is good... but if ur someone who likes to alter the dish to suit your taste buds of if you are on a specific diet and have some basic requests - PLEASE AVOID .. You will be happier eating at a roadside sandwichwalla coz he will definitely listen and give you what you want...

PS: Should anyone from the STAFF bother reading this review and should they care... I have a suggestion ... take a cue from Indigo Deli - you get what you want, the way you want it and with a SMILE.

I had somehow avoided this place going by reviews. Last Sunday, a friend picked it for lunch and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised, especially by the food. Terrible Service

Went there today for lunch at the service was attrocious. This is despite there being only a few tables occupied. The service staff was inattentive despite them standing around doing nothing. Even simple orders like garlic bread took 25 minutes. We had to wait atleast 45 minutes for the main course and it came out at different times. When the manager was called, his explanation was that the lamb shanks were taking forever. That explanation was negated when the vegetable entree took the longer than the fish or lamb. I would only recommend you to go to this restaurant if you have time to kill. However, even then, the fact that the gaps between the appetizer, main course and desert were so long, the experience was a disaster.

Nice place, great food, average ambience

This was a nice discovery for me as we were looking to find a place that can serve international cuisine with good produce and eat dishes that are commonly seen on menus abroad.

The place was busy and reservation is a must. We called a few hours before going there on a Friday night and were told that only the rooftop is available which we accepted. More on that later.

The staff was quite attentive and very courteous. We did not feel rushed and everything went smooth. We were helped to select a nice bottle of wine and given ample time to chat before being nudged for placing our order.

The Jacket potatoes starter wasn't very palatable but our Jalapeno cream penne and the Cappilini pasta (could do with a little less olive oil) was yummy. The deserts (we tried the Oreo cheesecake and the flourless chocalate tart) did not disappoint either.

The ambience was the biggest disappointment on the rooftop terrace. The night was warm and humid - they need to add some breezy air-coolers. The light on the rooftop was very dim - maybe adding a candle on each table would make it more romantic without brightening up the place too much.

All in all, a great find and I will definitely go again.

Must Visit Place

This is one of the best places to eat in Bandra. It has has two floors, with the ground floor being the dining and the first being a bar. The bar itself is well equipped and they do manage to whip up some good cocktails

As I stay very close to this restaurant, I happen to have visited this place more often and that too for all different meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner). And I must say that I have never been dissapointed with this place. (though my favourite being the breakfast with a wide variety of eggs). The staff is very attentive and knowledgable giving you all the right suggestions/tips. The decor is extremely nice. It's a kind of place you would go out with friends & family for Sunday brunch to have a great meal spend quanlity time. The place has a very unusal menu making it more interesting.

The menu offers a great variety of the dishes. Favourites so far: Lamb roast sandwich, John Dory, Brazillian steak, polenta crusted chicken, chorizo stew, Tomato Soup with Lemon Grass, Spanish Omlete (and list can go on :)).

It is one of my favourite places in Bandra and I recommend it to all friends (even accompany them sometimes). The place is a bit expensive but way better than most of the other expensive places in Bandra. And though the service is a bit slow sometimes, but it is fine with me as they say in French 'Good cooking takes time. If you are made to wait, it is to serve you better, and to please you'

So it is definitely a must visit place.

simple and still great

im bowled over by the great experimental food the place does and the simple and great ambience they have.
love those wrapped cutlery and the food mats the guys have.

you would always find the place busy , so reservation is advisable.
my friend gayatri is a fan of cafe and drove me there aswell while we were shooting in mehboob studio.
love the way they have styled their washrooms , got a great help in selecting my cocktail and waiter kept me informed that the drink would be replaced if i didnt like it.

get us a salt water cafe in bangalore pleaseeeeeeeeeee.

Totally avoidable place

Took a friend to Salt Water Cafe yesterday afternoon. I’d come to this place with a friend for dinner when it was new. It was not bad then. Yesterday the place looked dark, dank and shabby. We asked for two cups of coffee and croissants. The service was pathetic and very slow. When our order finally came, the coffee was awful, too milky and hardly aromatic.
The waiters looked disinterested and were indifferent. They weren’t paying attention when we called and generally slouched around the place in groups as though they’d come to hang out with their buddies. At one point, when we beckoned to a waiter to ask for the bill, he even held up a hand indicating that we should wait as he casually chatted with a friend!
Dull atmosphere, bad service, awful coffee!! Like those one time wonders, this one too hasn't lived up to its promise and is an average place posing as a classy Italian joint. A Barista would have been a better choice. Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone again.

SWC is my favourite place...!

This place has become one of my favourite places for yummy food after I had the salads here, especially the Roast Duck Salad; it is something for which I would sacrifice my dieting. Also, the sandwiches out here are heaven. I had come here before and just enjoyed my time here then. This time too I wasn't disappointed. This place is also quite reasonable for college students to hang out with friends and have a great time altogether.

Disappointing...2.5/5

This was my second visit to Salt Water. This time I went for dinner. Was pretty excited since on my last visit I could see a few things I really wanted to try.

Reached around 8 pm. They have 2 A/C sections and a rooftop non A/c one. I was told all the A/C sections were reserved and had to sit on the rooftop. So I would recommend making a reservation before you go. Surprising there was on table in the A/c section that I could see which was empty the entire time we were there from 8 - 10 pm.

Service: I was made to move twice and therefore understabably annoyed. The manager personally came and apologized and offered free desserts saying they do good desserts. Besides that the staff is very polite and helpful. They are well versed with the food.

Food & Drinks: Ordered a cottage cheese steak with ratatouille and a cous cous with chickpeas and vegetables. Both were very well presented and loved the cous cous. I have not seen such tiny portions anywhere. Agreed it is priced much lower than most places but I would prefer paying a bit more and having a larger portion size.

We were still hungry after ordering 2 main courses so ordered a fruit plate with seasonal fruits. I think that would take the cake. It was truly a piece of art. The had kiwi, pineapple, apples, American grapes, papaya and some other fruit which I've never eaten before.

Was cutting down on drinking so decided to order green tea. I prefer brewed tea so wasn't too happy when I got hot water and a tea sachet.

Damages: Rs 900 incl 2 main courses, a fruit plate and a tea and a 10% service charge. Totally worth it.

Would I visit again ? Probably not given a very average experience. Having heard so much about Salt Water Grill the cafe fails to live upto expectations. Oh and am still waiting for those desserts to come.

salt water is great for a lazy mid day meal

i have always enjoyed eating at salt water cafe. its chilled out, service is great and unintrusive, the food is great! their burgers, steaks and pastas are my favourites. and in all my visits to SWC, i have never felt that it was a loud place, or that people are screaming at each other. so maybe, it was a bad day - a one-off incident (with the reviewer above)... their wi-fi connection is very slow though. apart from that, its a nice place, which i would recommend to anyone looking for a good meal and nice relaxed ambience.

Had a great time!!!

Salt Water cafe is a nice combination of food and ambiance. You will fall in love with this place once you enter here. I had come here with two of my friends and the occasion was one of my friends birthday. We had Jamaican Jerk Chicken Burger with Pineapple Chutney & Roast Duck Salad, trust me...both were just awesome. We also had the fluffy omelette with mixed vegetables and a Pancake with whipped cream and maple syrup, it was really the yummiest food we ever had. My friend said she had her best birthday ever. We are definately coming here again.

Bad Food, Uncomfortable seating and OK Service

I give this place 2/5 because some food was OK, most of it was BAD
I can assure you that i had my worst bowl of french onion soup here! We also ordered Burgers - the quality of the buns was very poor. I almost felt like going to McDonalds after and enjoying a burger there instead.

I am really serious when i say that the burgers of McDonalds are MUCH MUCH better than any burgers at Salt Water Cafe.

The service is OK , i cant say its bad though. I also dont think its excellent because the staff are unaware of a lot of foods that they serve, Cant blame them, how would they know about an international dish when they grew up not leaving the country and not experiencing better foreign foods. But when one goes to a restaurant expecting a certain standard of food and service, we dont want to deal with "WHY DOES THE GUY NOT KNOW THAT A GOURMET BURGER HAS BETTER bla bla bla"

Anyway- the one thing that i LOVE here are the chocolate chip cookies. I think i had some of the best cookies of Mumbai here.

I would probably not go here again unless its to buy some cookies.

Great, if you are a regular!

If not expect sullen and outright discriminatory service. The food is exceptional but I never imagined I would have to suffer at a restaurant for not being a regular. I was with a friend who goes there often and the waiters know her. I got there early and asked if I could sit at a table by the window. I was refused. She came in 10 mins later and got the same table with no prior reservation. This was just one instance. Anyway, the food makes up for a lot. It's excellent.

Had been to salt water cafe for the first time a fortnight back and landed under very unpleasant circumstance ..
was just by myself and they couldnt offer me a table , finally when i got one at the bar stool , i couldnt get wifi there..

on my visit today things had apparently changed we were a group of four ....

very european self styled menu and the best in india , i have so far tried , also , the decor is very much latvinian home style...

again the wifi was down in though , but the overwall experience from warm wellcome to farewell was enough to get more of my swiss bank collegues in..

just a suggestion , you should have coffee in retail....

Where's the salt?

Insipid ambience ? Drab limestone floors and uncomfortable backless wooden benches.
Just a fancy Udipi-joint style seating and decor, really. And yes, you can also work on your tan if you sit by the huge windows overlooking a busy road.

Pathetic and S.L.O.W Service ? Disinterested waiters who can?t seem to know what to suggest and then refuse to improvise with the menu. I asked for a simple grilled chicken in a lemon butter sauce with vegetables on the side (all items picked from varied dishes on their menu, mind you) and was promptly declined.

The soup I ordered had way too much salt while the other dishes ordered had none. The waiter had to be reminded to bring in the bread which was an accompaniment with a Chorizo dish. The Tiramisu served had gone bad.

The food took a little over an hour to arrive at the table and wasn?t worth the wait either. With exactly 3 occupied tables the entire time we were there, I wonder what their excuse could be.

Bad day, maybe?

Great coffee and cake

Bandra is not really my watering hole but we wanted to check out its famous shopping. Having started soon after breakfast, an hour in traffic meant it was time for a restroom stop so we walked into Salt Water Cafe mainly to use the loo.

While we were there, we ordered a coffee and a sinful chocolate cake especially since we'd heard that one of our friend's was a pastry chef there.

I must say I was impressed by the place - its clean lines were definitely inviting . The coffee was better than any at Barista and and the chocolate cake .................mmmmmmmmmmmm it was just too sinful.

The service was good and the ambiance inviting and while this place is not exactly cheap I would love to go back and sample its food..................... Someday, over the Sea Link!

I thought it was higly over priced for the quality of food and service. Small portions for the money they are expecting. Service took time and a compulsary service charge was a bit obnoxious according to me.

shocking let down...

it was terribly disappointing that after one great meal about ten days ago, the cafe decided to disappoint us in this way... DID YOU KNOW THAT ALL THE FOOD AT THE CAFE IS PRE MADE AND ALMOST READY... ?we realised this because the cafe manager told us that we couldnt order for food without any allergy specifications... my friend had a health condition and requested for ANY vegetarian dish to be cooked without salt... they flatly denied the request..!!!!
they couldnt do it... simple...! they said we have everything already cooked and everything already had salt in it... so then we left..! it was pretty infuriating...

Salt Water Cafe!

Salt Water Cafe...what can I say? It's good, it's informal, it's on the cheaper side...

Last time I ate the Asparagus Soup (very tasty) and the Pan Seared Chicken Legs (great sauce). It didn't disappoint. Also, they have one of the best Dark Choco Chip Cookies around...not like the usually doughy/floury crap one gets.

I am stuck in a bit of a routine here since I end up getting the same things every time...in addition to the above mentioned, I get the Caesar Chicken Salad, John Dory, Chicken Schnitzel Burger...but I guess, why change something if it ain't broken, right?

There are also some good mixers, if you don't want to booze it up.

Any how, it's a good option close to home...and one can go dressed in shorts and a tshirt...can't beat that.

Salt my grill anytime~

This place is excellent! The food, the ambience, the service, just everything is great!
Walked in fairly early on a thursday, it was quite empty at that time but by the time we left at least 5 tables were occupied. Alot of people in twos entered, so would call it a date spot or old friends catching up kinda a joint.
The staff know the menu well it is limited but makes it eaier to order, the waiter suggested we try the grape and passion smoothie and the white wine sangria, verdict= both were super I still dream about the white wine sangria!
The food; we had the sauteed mushrooms, caesar salad and ravioli in white sauce. All thumbs up for the food & drink. The service was quick and staff were attentive and courteous (their suggestions were fantastic)!
Next tie I will try the cheese platter and cold cuts which looked too tempting...we need more cafes like this one. Really hit the spotfor me!

Ambience is mediocre and pricing is pretty expensive. But food is very satisfying. Loved everything starting from the mock tails to main course, side dishes and desserts. Specially liked their pork chops, perma ham, checked breast and seared legs and salmon.

Quite sweet actually

Saltwater replaces the all you can eat starter specialist Jashan. The do has two floors, with the ground floor being the dining and the first being a bar. The bar itself is well equipped and they do manage to whip up some good cocktails. The food is suprisingly good (don't forget to try the Tomato soup with lemon grass oil), but is well over-priced. The portions are extremely strict but thankfully the flavour of the place makes up for it. A negative 1 for the other-worldly pricing and the hurdle-course one has to go through, courtesy the BMC.

Blah -

It looked interesting, slightly up market from the front so thought we'd give it a go - decor very nice -service was good -we were immediately seated upstairs, the food arrived and have to say was very disappointing - very small portions, and bland. we asked for 2x milkshakes - explained we would like them VERY THICK to the point you would almost require a spoon (which means you add more ice cream) explained if it meant paying extra not a problem - milkshake arrived - it may as well have been water from the tap - sent it back - came back again no different - so I gave up, only to find upon tasting it it was warm!!! so sent it back - and all they had done was put 1 ice cube in it .... completely put me off. We will not be going back - nor will I be recommending it, other than to say don't bother!

Super Place

We were there last afternoon post watching David Coulthard's Histrionics on the Sea Link.
Four of us ---- dug into a penne with sundried tomatoes n chicken, a sphagetti with prawns, grilled rawas with prawn okra curry and rump steak with caramelised shallots..... Super stuff - all 4 of these.... the pasta was made just like how we had asked it to be. The rump steak was succulent and very very distinguished.
Desserts included chocolate ganache (goood), a liqueur based tarte and apple pie (seems like the rosemary jar had fallen into it before baking - the only not so happening thing at the table)
All in all a great place and a Must Visit!

Salt water cafe is one of those places you just need to go to at some point in the month. The food is great, the ambience is vibrant and comforting at the same time and the service pampers you.

We ordered a lot of food but the membership cuts off 10% which makes the hit on your wallet slightly less.

Try the fried fish burger, tiramisu, blue cheese salad and smoked salmon. The Ragu is slightly confusing and the crostinis bread was overcooked other than that great!

Attended the burrp! Chef's Table at Salt Water Cafe last night. Although I've been here many times and love the food they serve, last night was about couple of firstlt times for me. Dined on their terrace for the first time and with the weather becoming cool and pleasant at night's, it's by far their best seating. Next I tried their veg preparations for the first time. Loved the potato and leek soup, the beetroot salad which had a small piece of kurmura chilli... very interesting. The corn cannelloni was also very nice. But the highlight was the salted caramel ice cream... simply divine!

Finally there!

After reading and hearing a lot of good reviews me and my friend finally decided to check this place out. It was a pleasant experience which left us wanting for more!

The ambiance is very inviting with off white decor and contrast pieces of brown coloured furniture which shows sophistication all round. There are a few seats which are located near the glass wall and a step below with tables in the middle and a step below that with tables near the wall. Although all the tables are good, we preferred the ones near the glass wall. However, the guy who ushered us in seemed a bit snobbish and he gave us one of the tables near the wall instead. Clearly, saving the good seats for the "it" celebrity kinda crowd that comes to this place. I didn't quite like this discrimination.

Aside this, the food that we ordered changed our initial reservations about this place. We ordered for the Spanish Omelette which was so fluffy with the right amount of veggies and herbs, then an asparagus ravioli with butter sauce which was so wonderful that we found the quantity to be quite less for two! And finally the Veg. Lasagna which is one of the best ones I have had so far. We were also served the usual bread basket with butter on the side at the start which I like :)

Luckily, the guy serving us our food wasn't snobbish and that plus the food itself was so good that we totally forgot about the unpleasant stuff and enjoyed the evening to the fullest! I would definitely go back here and recommend the same to others as well. I am yet to try their desserts which I am sure to try the next time I visit this place.

in 1 word its xcellent

one of my childhood friends called up to catch up over lunch at salt water café I just was not able to say no (his treat obviously!). been there sooooo many times….

This is an amazing place, so open, classy, well designed and warm. Although I wasn't too taken in with their color scheme for the walls - very mesmerizing..

Their food, simply amazing and out of this world. , would rank them no one in Mumbai…
love their jon dory and lamb shanks .. also their sinfull chocolate martinis and sangrias are to die for had six of them between me and a friend well the manager escorted us to my car…. , not because they were really concentrated , as I was drinking last night in that same place……

The service - impeccable! One place where I loved the service more than the food (hands down).
Hats off to pratap and dilip……………
Would love to die in this place……

deserve to be my favourite

This was the most exquisite meal I've had. My husband and I have been to many fine dining restaurants in US as well as in Canada but the meal we had at the SALT WATER on the occasion of our wedding anniversary ON FRIDAY was just out of the world. The impeccable service, detail in execution and most importantly the exotic food preparations made us feel like royalty.
. All the 3 courses were delicious- from the green asparagus soup to the basa and the crème bruille which I had ,Were simply out of the world and platted to perfection..
Upon disclosing that it was our anniversary our deserts were taken care of by khem , who was one of the most cheerfull staff around.

This experience shall surely linger in my memory for a long time

woahhh again a mesmerising experience

.

It keeps getting better and better with food and hospitality.

farmaan the Stewart who was attending me knew his job well , the most confident server I ever faced in India , also his recommendations of grilled veg cappellini with prawns & a side order broccoli agilo olio was the best.

honestly didn't had room for deserts , but would suggest to add stone mango deserts in menu..

Ambience. Check. Food. Check. Beer. Huh?

The place is pretty, that you have to hand to them. The canteen benches are refreshing but could do with a little bit of back support. The bottom of walls and a lonely pillar look like they have really roughed it with yellow patches and plaster threatening to fall off. The food is yum. We ordered the Potato Choux, a name even our waiter couldnt pronounce which made for a hilarious moment. This dish was great. The mushroom rissotto was greater. One thing we found super weird is that they dont do Indian beers. After mulling over this for a great while, we couldnt come up with one single reason except they possibly dont like Vijay Mallaya. Also, why wont they just serve the bread without us asking?

Cafe Refreshing

My wife and I recently visited this place. The cafe is located at the corner of Chapel road near Lilavati. A nice cosy joint which has limited space. Hence, a prior booking for a table is a smart move, unless you are feeling adventorous. Though the space is limited, it has been smartly used to give a sense of non clutter. There is seating space available on the ground floor and also upstairs. The place upstairs is again divided into AC and in the open areas. The place seemed like under renovation as the walls were dirty and POP marks could be spotted in some places.
The food was excellent, the drinks refreshing and the waiters partially attentive. The dinner menu boasts of largely italian cuisine. You must try the mushroom risotto - I found it to be completely yum. The prices are moderate. Overall, an excellent value for money place.

DECENT FOOD ..BUT TOOOOOOO NOISY ..

A lazy sunday lunch.. needs full on laziness ..well salt water cafe is just apt if not more..very elaborate menu with decent veg choices and value for money ,, though the service needs to be perked up .. too many people doing nothing actually ..VERY VERY NOISY ... :-((((((((( .. the most out standing item was the warm bread served in mini sacks with butter whipped soft and creamy .. mistook it for cream cheese .. [ yes actually did ] - was told on inquiry that its plain old AMUL whipped to glory..over all liked the food , large portions ..in fact quite large.. nice offers on alcohol also...only issue THE NOISE.... BEYOND UNBEARABLE ...

Manali trout is not to be missed

Salt water Cafe is the ideal place for our family to walk down to for an evening out. The ambiance is great and the food is invariably superb. On our most recent evening there the two dishes that stood out included the burger and the Manali Trout. Everyone laughed when I ordered the burger but they kept tucking into it till the last morsel - while the meat was a patty and not pieces of meat as I had imagined it might be, the flavour was delicious, vegetables crunchy and bread just right.
The star of the evening however was the Pan Seared Manali Trout with passion fruit emulsion cooked to perfection and served in a lemon zest sauce with tiny gingered spaetzle. The dish was beautifully presented and tasted like something you could imagine the pros producing in Gary, George and Matt's Masterchef. This dish is a winner and we are sure heading back there for an encore soon.

That basa and that tiramisu

Went there with my colleagues for dinner after a long and frustrating day at work and trust me the place was quite a stress buster. We didn't order too much food but whatever we did was brilliant. we ordered for a soup which was perfect if you are looking for some comfort. The pan seared kingfish was again brilliant and I've never had a better Tiramisu anywhere else.

NOW thats why i will never stop going there

i have loved this place, for their lovely Spanish eggs or pasta or just the fresh juice
but few days ago i went there and ordered for a chocolate croissant ... it was not fullly cooked and insteda of being flaky and chocolatey ...ikt was doughy inside so i requested them to take the plate.

Not only did they replace it- i dint take it casue i was half way thru my next dish- but 3 people came to sa how sorry they were. i was actually a lil surprised on how disturbed they seemed to be and how bothered they were.

apart from the great food and lovely ambiance, the staff is so courteous and so keen to make sure that u have a great time.

loved it!

Tiramisu, the best in the city

After a prayerful morning at the Mount Mary Church, we planned a breakfast at Salt Water Cafe with two kids in tow. The ambience, the decor and the bustle of activity within the Cafe got the family all excited. We quickly settled and each one decided on what we go for. Predominantly eggs in different forms - fluffy omlettes with cheese, with chicken sausages, sunny side up was ordered. The wait was a little long and tables that were occupied after us were being served. The wait ended and each got busy with downing our yummy fork licking omlettes. We washed this down with coffee. Tiramisu and pancakes what came in next. Tiramisu is something to die for! The family excited about our morning outing promised to be here soon.

Easily one of Bandra's best restaurants.

The Eggs Benedict and parma ham omelettes are also fun. Wash it down with a cup of hot coffee or one of there fresh juices and you really can't ask for a better start to your day.

Not to nitpick, the staff is very professional and sweet. they know their menu and make some decent recommendations.

Good place

Went here on a Sunday evening with wife. Had done prior booking. Must say that the staff is friendly and helpful. We were confused on what to order as it was or first trip here and we did not read any reviews! In Starter - Prawns were nice and soft. The Croissant (veg) was delicious and so was the Grilled Pepper Chicken with Mash Potatoes good. They do have a good list of wine and cocktails. So I would encourage all to try. The cost is on the higher side. Food with alcohol would come at about 3100 pp! but u do enjoy the food and ambience. Only down side is their seating arrangement which has a back rest only on one side of the table. It looks good but lacks comfort!

Unnecessarily expensive.

Bandra is a great locality for businessmen planning on expensive joints. I have noticed so many food joints around bandra that burn your pockets for NO reason. While one cannot really complaint about the prices set by the restaurants, but the least we expect is a good value for money.
I found salt water cafe to be on of those "Over-rated-Over-Priced-Okayish-VFM" places. Let me guarantee you that I am not complaining about their service/food quality/ambiance..I am just pointing out that the prices are unarguably high.
A dinner for 4 with booze cost us 6.6k. Why? I'll tell ya why!
We ordered a portion of "some mushroom dish whose name I don't remember". The menu card said 390 bucks or so (I don't remember exactly). We had a common feeling that the quantity would last between 2 people while they finish ONE pint. So we ordered 2 plates first to try it out. The quantity was as small as a fish. It had like 7-8 pieces of mushroom and BAM! you're ready for another order.
I then ordered for a chicken salami sandwich for myself which was again expensive. That's fine. But again! the sandwich was just a "Regular-not-deserving-300-bucks" type of a sandwich. In fact I found no dish clearing the Good quantity benchmark because even the veg dishes we ordered later either came with two or max three ingredients on small fish size plates.
Even the pasta's are miserly delivered. So we lost hopes on main course.
Eventually We ended up drinking more than we planned. They clearly told us that they are out of Indian beer.. so we went for the other ones which were more expensive.
And plus, this is more of a breakfast place than dinner. Maybe my mistake, but i went with the reputation/and reviews.
I would summate my experience as below average. Not a great place to go if you demand a good VFM. Quantity of food is anything but sufficient.Just that they may need to focus on business less and customer satisfaction more.

Amazing place

I walked out as soon as i walked in ..why you may ask? because it was a saturday and the place was completely reserved.

Next i dropped in on a weekday..again this place was cramped with its patrons. Anywho we managed a table on the rooftop and enjoyed our small meal.

We ordered for two burgers. A lamb and a chicken snitzel both at Rs1000 with taxes.

The burger were delicious however the service needs to be more prompt.

Always crowded

I don't like the service at Salt water Cafe, these people are always busy and the restaurant is always packed so you don't really get all the attention you deserve. However, I don't blame them either, just too full to manage. If you have like budget of Rs 2000 for a meal, do drop by. They have an amazing breakfast range as well.

Best Place for Yummy quick bites

Salt Water Cafe is frequented by the coolest and the cream crowd of Mumbai, . Thos place is always buzzing with amazing and classy people from all walks of life- Tv stars, actors, models, corporates, richie rich, and happening youth.
The menu is quite exquisite and but limited for vegetariansat the same time full of varied options for non-vegetarian delicacies. The service is very damn good, always well mannered and fast pace. Despite the large amount of crowd present, they are always cooperative and never disturbing.
The place looks simple and elegant from outside, with wonderful interiors full of wooden furniture .
Grilled Peppercorn Chicken, 3 Oz. Minute Steak Omlette are their must ry dishes. The complimentary bread basket is just wow.The ravioli with grilled veggies dipped in roasted almond butter and the mascarpone risotto are simply delicious - melts in the mouth.

Nice ambience, good burger, good place!

This unpretentious restaurant in Bandra Reclamation a scenic walkable section of Bandra hs a classic cuisine menu n a simple rooftop terrace. Breakfast menu is long n trustworthy n at night the crab legs are excellent along with the drinks which are relatively cheap. It gets crowded on weekends so be sure to make a reservation preferably for the terrace where the cover of giant palm trees somehow blocks out the cacophony from noisy Chapel Road below.

Delectable dishes

SWC is not just any other cafe serving some delectable dishes. It’s a place which provides you with an astounding meal experience. The open air space is absolutely cozy. For everyone, there are some things that can serve as great unifiers. From cars to football to music to travel and the list goes on. Coming to food, Poha Crusted Prawns won a lot of favour across the table. BBQ Ribs and the smoked Salmon are surely not be missed. Soft , flavorful, succulent. Happy hours offer on Sangria, Martini, etc was a steal.

Amazing Hangout...

Salt Water Cafe is Mumbai Nightlife's all time favourite for an all day dinning restaurant. With its wooden-and-glasshouse look, this place is very cosy with hospitable service. From some great breakfasts to all day dinning and to crazy deals on drinks you just can't get enough here. Try the pan seared John Dory and their Hazlenut Mousse (one of the best in town). They have an outlet in Bandra too.

Salty Affair

Salt Water Cafe is perfectly located, very hard to miss if you are on that street. It has been around for a long time in Bandra and one needs to be lucky to get a table without reservation during meal hours. The seating is casual and is split into two levels with the bar on the upper level. It is one of those places that has a terrace with a seating option. The place is cozy with simple interiors and not too loud.

We have been here multiple times and have tried out almost every dish on the menu. The food is consistent nothing too extra-ordinary. The dishes that I can recommend are 8 hours Braised Lamb, Seared Chicken Legs and Penne with Sun dried Tomato, Olives. The portion sizes are decent.

The bar selections is excellent and apart from the regulars they make some rather interesting Sangria's, Margarita's, Daiquiris and LIT.

The service is fine, staff well trained. If I have to rate the place,

Food 3.5 out of 5
Quality 3.5 out of 5
Service 3.5 out of 5
Price 3.5 out of 5

Overall, 3.5 out of 5. It is a decent place and must try. A great place to catch-up with friends and family.

Sangria, oh Sangria

One thing. Unlimited Sangria!

Since the time they started the weekday unlimited sangria offer, this place has been my go-to with people who haven't been here before. Including out-of-towners.

And boy do they make a mean sangria! It is so delicious, you can drink bottles and bottles of it. But you may not be able to because I have seen heavy-weights go crazy with just a few glasses. Best part is that the staff roams around with jugs of white and red sangria and refill your glass without you asking for them to do so. They serve a bread plate and butter along with it, to up the oomph.

Apart from that, Salt Water has historically been great for it's breakfast menu. In the appetizers, the Grilled chicken with Singh's chutney and Malt+Mustard dip is brilliant. So is the Smoked Salmon. In the mains, go for the Seared chicken legs and Pan charred duck breast. They are cooked to perfection.

But don't ever miss the sangria offer. I would go just for that all the time.

Salt Water Cafe

Salt Water Cafe is a chic restaurant that blends deli food with a gourmet treatment in the hope of bringing about an exquisite quality that can’t be found elsewhere.
CUISINE: Fares from Spanish, Italian, French and more cuisines are blended for an overall European affair.
FOOD AND DRINKS: The food is rich and full of flavour. Most of the ingredients are imported from European countries. If you prefer finger foods, try one of the cold plates or a burger. A sandwich would also be perfect, especially the smoked salmon in a bagel. For the long haul meal, try the mushroom soup followed by the shiitake pasta or the 8-hour braised lamb shanks.
OVERALL IMPRESSION: The décor is mostly wooden with an overall brown and beige look. The music isn’t too loud so it does not interfere with conversations. The food quality is good but terribly overpriced.
