Starbucks Review

CUISINE: India’s first Starbucks offers typical coffees (lattes, cappuccinos, espressos) and a snack menu that is completely Indian.
AMBIENCE: Rustic coffee brewery meets Indian palaces of yore. The space is large, but is a kitsch of dark woodwork at the coffee bar and bright, ethnic upholstery at the seating area.
FOOD AND DRINKS: The coffees are nothing special. The ice teas taste like cough syrups. The caffeine-free frappaccinos are just flavoured milk with crushed ice. Also, there is barely any variety in the available drinks. The food is the usual Indian cafè fare: paneer roles, spinach cheese sandwich, chicken paninis, etc, but is surprisingly good.
SERVICE: Expect long lines at the counter. Also, the baristas are intent on forcing you to buy the largest cup of your drink.
PRICE: While it may seem like the standard cafè pricing (Rs. 90 for a small cappuccino), you are actually paying more for the brand and less for the coffee.
OVERALL IMPRESSION: Starbucks is trying really hard to appease local tastes, but it is disappointing that the international Starbucks brand one sees in movies is entirely absent. It is no different from other local cafès that offer the same menu.

Fantastic ambience

Coffee of starbucks isn't my favourite. Feel it's a little too watery compared to the Cafe Coffee Day's and they add too much of ice. But just to have a nice coffee with a great ambiance this is the starbucks. And free fast wifi is the way to go. Love the varied seating they have here especially the long wooden table at the centre.

Okay place

I like Café coffee day and would go to Starbucks only if I was in a mood to show off to my friends. Been here once and while the ambiance is great, the coffee is not out of this world. The brand name is a pull for most of the people and I saw many office goers with their laptops here so maybe that is a plus, it is corporate friendly. I had a caramel latte which was good, a bit heavy priced which is probably for the brand name.

Overall okay

I like a cup of good coffee and I have no issues with cafe coffee day but sometimes I want something richer, denser,so I thought let me try starbucks as it is a legendary place. The ambiance is so great here. It is classy from the moment you enter. There are many different varieties of coffee which can be confusing, thankfully I had my friend with me who ordered caramel cappuccino for me and I loved it. But price is way much more than I am ready to pay for one cup of coffee.

shopping and coffee

A day without coffee is a dull day. So here I was in Mumbai, roaming from one place to another drenched in Mumbai rains for the very first time. Day had began at 9am and my daily dose of coffee still was not in. Thats when I saw starbucks and stood out for like 10 minutes thinking , what excuse would work to tell my friend that I am late. Anyways, I had to go in. My glass of coffee was calling. Coffee in, insanity came out! I embraced the later half of the day and had some gala time henceforth.

Steep price for a good old cup of coffee!

I recently visited the much talked about Starbucks in town, the experience was pretty good!

We were a bunch of friends catching up after dinner. The place was pretty empty as it was a weekday. A good relief to know we didn't have to wait considering the size of the group.

Amongst us we ordered the Java chip frappuccino, cappuccino, caramel flavoured cappuccino and the Java chip cookie. No doubt the Java chip was the star of the night.

The ambience here is pretty relaxed. Though the varieties could be a little intimidating for first timers but the staff was very helpful.

The price is slightly beyond steep and be prepared to shell out an average of Rs300 for a basic cup of coffee.

Will I go back? Maybe, if I crave the Java chip! Otherwise nah!

Not bad. But not worth the hype.

From hating the hype and the long lines, the Starbucks mania has finally caught up with me. The Earl grey tea isn't so bad (better than most) and the paneer roll (yes, the one that resembles a burger) is almost good. Always, crowded, the spacious outlet located at Horniman circle allows for privacy and relatively noise free conversation. However two separate counters for snacks and drinks and the absence of a menu for the snacks (you actually have to look at the food items at display) are some things that are annoying and need to be changed. Especially when one is spending over Rs.200 for a snack and a cup of tea.

Head here for great Hot chocolate!

So you don't drink coffee. Or tea. Or maybe even green tea?
Well then you need to head to this place and have their Hot chocolate. It is the best I have had so far!
They have good cookies. Though the snacks are no too great. So I stick with a cookie and Hot chocolate all the time!

Coffee's second name is Starbucks

I was a tea lover until I went to USA.
When I was in USA, got a chance to visit Starbucks and since then developed a great taste for coffee.
Anything you try here will make you fell good.
Been here few times and it is such a nice place to visit and to have awesome coffee , doesn't matter if it's Hot coffee or cold :)

Number one trending

The hype this cafe has created has been the most popular so far. The long queues outside the cafe did dishearten in its first week, however the one of its kind service more than made up for it! They write names on your order (coffee glasses) - aw! The prices are quite reasonable as I had expected them to be a bomb so that was a huge relief. The ambience is huge, well spaced out and nicely done. Creative, at its best to not make people feel its JUST another cafe. The rolls and pastries are good too.

Its just what it is!!

Starbucks used to be my evening stopage when i was in USA for 2 months. I was really delighted when I heard that Starbucks was to open in Mumbai! I finally had the time to travel all the way to fort today to sample my favourite coffee and I wasn''t at all disappointed. True, there was a half n hour queue and that the store was full of people talking loudly and the whole point of a quiet coffee was lost, but after tasting my most favourite caramel frappuccino and a blueberry muffin all was forgotten! THe muffin was the die for, exactly as good as we get abroad and my friend had a coffee frappuccino which was pretty decent as well! Also compared to the crap we get in Cafe Coffee Day for similar prices, I'm quite happy to know that Mumbai finally has a really good place for coffee lovers. Not just coffee, but the Starbucks signature hot chocolate is one of the best i've ever tasted! Can;t wait to go again! Thank you Tatas!

Superb Coffee !!!

Super coffee! The mix of beans is good! Even a light looking coffee would have the aroma and robustness of a strong coffee! I would recommend the latte and the iced lattes. Totally love the basil tomato & mozzarella sandwich and the desserts. Frappuchinos could be less sugary. Pricing is very resonable. No good cafe will have a serving as big as a Venti in around Rs.200/-

The caramel macchiato is perfection in a mug!

I go to this place at least once or twice a week, sometimes for coffee, sometimes for a quick meal. I have always been greeted by friendly staff and my coffee has always been made to perfection (I am very fussy as to how my coffee should be made and the staff at Starbucks have never got my order wrong).

Unfortunately, last week I ordered the red velvet and orange cake and it was nothing but disappointing! The cake was very dry and seemed like it was a few days old. This slice of cake put red velvet cakes to shame! This was the first bad product I've had at Starbucks.

I do love the java choc chip frappuccino, coffee perfectly blended with dark chocolate is the best combination! My standard order is the caramel macchiato, the buttery caramel is delicious!

The ambience is definitely better than most of the coffee shops in Mumbai, I also love the fact that there is free wifi at Starbucks :)

One time experience only!

Went there after all the hoo haa came to an end, so that I don't have to stand in line and wait for my chance to enter it!

Went there last Saturday, at night time, it was comfortably bustling with energy. The interiors is made excellently and shows that it has been done after giving a great thought. Very comfortable to relax, sip your coffee and work (free wifi :D they have)

Now coming to the coffee part. Nothing that special, but yes way better than CCD's, Baristas and Costa's. On an expensive side, you can go there for the experience. The Dark Chocolate muffin, though was very good.

Would rather sit and have coffee of Gloria Jean's, as it's more value for money and also what I thought better than Starbucks!

Go there only to have one time experience!

Great ambiance, average overpriced coffee

Once you enter this place, you are spellbound by the thought that has gone into making this place what it is. Being the flagship store, it looks damn awesome and is a perfect place to go for your first date. But you need to stand in the queue for a few minutes for placing the order and them collect the coffee yourself. The Caramel Frappuccino tasted nice and so did the Cappuccino.

Average coffee, better food

The acclaimed Starbucks opened their doors in India and I had visited their Goregaon outlet and reviewed it also.

I had received tweets and comments that ‘you actually need to visit the one in town’, so one of those rare instances, I commute to town, asked a friend to meet me there.

Immediately, after a couple of days had another opportunity to visit the same place. Besides, the severe service failure I encountered both times, I felt so let down by the coffee, that it can be actually rechristened as ‘Tata Coffee House’

Internationally, Starbucks coffee can actually be smelt outside the store; giving the weather and AC it’s due, at least the coffee blast should hit me when I enter. Alas, nothing resembling that happened. Yes, it smelt that I had entered a bakery that also sold coffee.

I tried two different coffees – hot Cappuccino – there seemed to be no ‘rich espresso’ in there, more milky then coffee and cold coffee – this was milk with a dash of coffee, something I used to give my daughter on Sundays when she was a kid.

I am not an expert, but the quality of the coffee – strength, smell, flavour – left a lot to be desired. Compared to this the food is far superior – the honey & oats cookie, warmed up a bit; panini – cheese, tomato and puff were all outstanding.

Good experience!

I'm extremely glad that Starbucks has made a mark into India. Our experience here was nothing short of wonderful. You will find very few cafes that have BOTH good coffee and good snacky items (like sandwiches) but Starbucks is one of them. Firstly, the decor and ambience of this outlet is amazing. Wow, simply brilliant. Very open , you don't feel like you are cramped in a small location. Second, wonderful coffee and food. I had the Mocha Praline Frappuccino. One of the best coffee flavors that I have ever had. Give it a try. One of their vegetarian snack items, I forgot which one it is, but it consists of potatoes, it is really good.

order right= get it right

just read some of the reviews, personally feel that some may not hv ordered it right...starbucks is one of the few where you can actually customize ur coffee at every stage...so to make it stronger add another shot of coffee to the order, low fat or zero fat milk...also they normally dont add ne sugar or sweetner to the coffee...so as to allow the consumer to 'add to taste' .... these might help consumers get the right coffee experience...cheers

Words are not enough, experience it yourself...

Just after completing my half marathon this year, we were looking for a place to celebrate that moment...being at azaad maidaan after completion of the race, the nearest place we could think of was Starbucks at Horniman Circle...it was anyways on my to-go-to list after hearing all the hype around this place...we entered and i was almost flattered in the beginning itself by looking at the decor of the place... and the beautiful aroma of coffee all around blew me away...the old antique rustic feel of this place added to my high after the race...never came across such a spacious coffee shop in mumbai ever...then we ordered for some sandwiches and coffees...they simply made my day...we ordered for caramel espresso and some frappachino with java chips which were loaded with whipped cream...alongwith some tomato cheese sandwich and charred potato pepper sandwich...yum yum yum is less to define them...although coffee preparation took more than the expected time...still i would say this place lived upto its hype...couldn't have asked for a better celebration post run...thank you Starbucks for coming to India and making my special day more special...

Catching up over a cuppa

Going to Starbucks in South Mumbai is an excellent experience. The coffee is of course amazing. The place is overflowing with a mix of aromas of various kinds of coffee. The guys working here greet you with a big smile and are quick on their feet to get you your favourite cuppa. We were also invited to taste some exquisite coffees from parts of India, with some snippets of knowledge about it. Their freshly baked cookies surpass any desserts that I have ever had before. I and my friends were flattered by the hospitality and even got a free cookie just to add to the lovely evening. I don't know about the other starbucks in the city, but this one can absolutely make your evening while you catch up over coffee.

Pleasant Experience With Extra Whipped Cream

So finally i get to visit the mecca for all arabica coffee lovers, Starbucks! After all the buzz going around i decided to check the place out for myself. Located just opposite horniman circle at fort, the 'twin tailed siren' in green doesn't bounce from your glance.

Making my way in, to the interior by myself, pushing the door away from slamming into my face, due to the negligence of a prior visitor, a supervisor showed us in with a smile and a warm greet, instead of the doorkeeper doing so. Him being busy talking to another. Towards your straight 12 you'll notice the coffee-bar with a group of busy baristas making espressos and the frappuchinos with their coffee machines. Above the coffee-bar is inviting simple decor of the indian themed 'doodhwaala' container and flour bags along with the starbucks mugs and memorabilia.
Conveniently located to the right, a couple of service counters with decent staff occupying all of them. Approaching one i asked for the 'Java-Chip Frappuchino', the flagship starbucks coffee along with a Christmas special 'Mocha Praline' for my girlfriend, which he advised on requesting his recommendation.

I couldn't help but notice the sandwiches and the baked cakes on display just below the counter. Most of them looked crisp and fresh out of the oven, with hygienic conditions not making you wary bout those flies. After confirming our order we went to the cash counter to make our payment of a decent Rs.350-Rs.400 for coffee for two. Giving us our receipt after paying by card we were requested to come back in 10 minutes to fetch our order from the coffee-bar. Excited, finding a place was a biggie though, i had to search for a table for two on the ground and upper level to my disappointment, nothing! In spite of having the biggest spaced-out area from all the three branches, this was unpleasant, and looking at the growing line behind us, the anxiety grew a bit more. But not being on foot for long, we got that spot for two on a long table with a few patrons sitting beside (something better than nothing, right?). Being a while, i went to check on my praline and frappuchino which were already ready, with a quick spurt of whipped cream and chocolate sauce, i couldn't distinguish the two cold coffee's both looking exactly alike. Taking my cups to our new found place i was happy to find us shown to another ideal table for two by a friendly server, now this was what we had hoped for! The coffee seemed slushy with milk and textured coffee java chips which i could now distinguish from the praline. The waiters seem to be nice showing us the place to get the cutlery and utilities which were easily accessible at an end, the spoons were given to us by the same server.

The ambiance around was neat and chic with a roughed out warli design on the floor and a large photographic collage depicting happy people on the wall, the intricate wood work and fine wood sculpting were something that your eyes would trace back to making you admire the work, Fact is that the tables and wood work were hand crafted and designed by Indian artisans and carpentry. All around, the furnishing and lighting were the key take-aways from the experience, each chair and furniture were different from each set. The tables are evenly spaced out with separate families on either side, the arrangements of the furniture and decor differed from corner to corner. There is a lot of rustic rendition of art along with grunge styled trunks and clay pottery at places. One can be happy with the cozy couches and a cup of coffee here for sure.

All in all, the experience was pleasant and well worthy of a 4/5.
Yes, if u are an impatient bean addict, be prepared to be frustrated with the long queue on the weekends at peak hours in the eve. Yes you must have read tons of reviews from amateur critics about how frustrating it is to wait before you get your poison. But, the fruit of patience is bliss. Their coffee sums up to be a great blend which only a person with true taste will understand. So, shun of the negative vibes from the pessimist critics below and try this for yourself. This place will leave you with a feel good feeling for sure (even though you don't digest coffee).

Average...

We were very excited about finally having Starbucks in India, but the trip to this Starbucks did not live upto the expectations.
the cafe mocha was good, but the hot chocolate passable as bournvita...
there were no eggless muffins available
and worst of all, the airconditioning wasn't working...
However, being a starbucks fan...i expect them to improve on these things and will give it a shot again after a few months...

Frappuchinno !!!!!

I have been a HUGE fan of Starbucks' frappuchinno's since I first had them six years back. Was waiting for one to open up in India.

Finally when we got one in Mumbai, I braved the long lines to buy myself one. However, it is this particular Starbucks store that I am going to talk about because the entire world knows a great deal about their coffees.

This Starbucks store is by far THE most gorgeous Starbucks I have ever seen. I used to think that England had ornate Starbucks but nothing beats this. Wonderful woodwork, decor, ambience AND MUSIC (rock, hip hop fans might be disappointed here although they could change in the future). I would say this is a great place to finish up your leftovers from the work place or get on with a hobby or just do some casual reading or just like mostly everybody there, hang out with your buddies. Do try it out.

Good Coffee Bad Tea.

This place is one of the best Starbucks anywhere in the world. Ambience wise. The coffee is great as usual. The chocolate muffin's divine. The food is nice. But if you r a tea drinker go someplace else. The tea is pathetic. I like my tea plain without any flavouring. But I can tolerate ginger n tea masala. This tea was something else. Hyped

I've never been a fan of Starbucks really. I did not expect much from the Mumbai one either. The ambience is quite a let down. Instead of sticking to the typical Starbucks theme they have tried to make it a bit Indian. It works in a rather stupid way too, where you wait in a line for half an hour just to pay and then wait for another 10 minutes to get your coffee. I had a caramel frapuccino which was disturbingly sweet, the mocha frapuccino my sister took was no different either. The only plus point: My drink was so bloody chilled, it was quite nice drinking it in that burning afternoon.

Worth the hype

The next visit to Bombay always had Starbucks on the agenda and a 30 km taxi ride later we was standing outside India's first of many to come !!

Now, considering I had read earlier reviews and keeping in mind the fact that we had chosen 7 30 PM as the time to get there, we were all bracing up for a pretty long wait before we could get our hands on that elusive coffee.

There was a queue but we managed to get to the counter in pretty quick time nonetheless. Four beverages - a caramel frappuccino, a mocha frappuccino, a signature hot chocolate and a cappuccino . Innumerable food items - A couple of star club sandwiches, chicken tikka paninis, a paneer roll, blueberry cheesecake, a fig and prune slice of cake and a mava-elaichi croissant

The caramel frappe was delightful ; they had run out of java chip frappes. The other drinks too received pretty rave reviews.

The food was pretty decent overall, the standouts being the star club sandwich (evidence being that we were ready to bear the queue again just for another one of these). The mava-elaichi croissant was novel. I also thought the cheesecake was the right amount of moist.

A couple of grudges - Food served immediately on the table but can take almost 15-20 mins to serve up the coffee. Cold food and hot coffee is not a really inviting combo. Table clearance is a bother at times.

Overall definitely lives up to the hype and the 1300-store Coffee chain surely has a lot to worry about.

underwhelmed

Dropped in on this after the Indikaleido fest. even at 9:30pm there was a 15 minute wait. I am not sure why people are making such a big deal about the place.
They had run out of veg food items so I hd a rather dense oatmeal raisin cookie.
The caramel frappucino was average. They ran out of the mocha chips as well.

I think they are not set up to deal with the crowds. should be better once the novelty factor wears off.
on the whole a very average experience that left me underwhelmed. Not sure if I will bother to return any time soon.

prices in line with the other coffee chains

Ummm......

A coffee shop or a fine dining restaurant? Table service kills what should otherwise be a laid back place with staff buzzing all over the place.

A very weak cappuccino that early in the morning before the machines are tires does not hold much promise..but that is something they can work on. Maybe an experienced Barista v/s the one that was there could help?

Let people help themselves inside the store else we'll have queues of Mumbai finest queueing up in shoes for a fine dining experience .....

Coffee le lo!! garam gram!

ok starbucks is a place which will be visited by two types of customers, one group are those who have had it outside the country and the other is new customers who will end up becoming loyalists. i am a former, so i had to visit this place and try it out, I must say the ambience is better than any other starbucks store i have visited in roughly half a dozen countries. Its lavish, rich and kind of replicates mefieval Indian colors and decor.
The weirdest part is that the coffee is ordered in a location and the delivery happens from a few feet away. The prices are pretty competitive with a Frappuchino, Ice blended cold coffee , the largest is for 180 + taxes. the size is slightly smaller than other starbucks sizes. But the coffee tastes the same. the menu is limited but i hope theyll introduce more...for now the coffee shops have lines ! it took me 25 mins to order a coffee...but overall its great!

Best coffee shop ever!!

This is my first review on Burrp.com and I don't think that I could have chosen a better place to review. The Starbucks coffee shop at Horniman Circle gives you the ultimate coffee experience and I feel that it truly sets the benchmark for all cafes in India. Right from the moment you enter the place till the time you exit, you can't help but admire the brilliant decor and some small touches of elegance here and there.
Like most other people, even I had been to a few Starbucks cafes outside India and had a great sense of excitement when I heard that Starbucks had finally come to India. So I visited the first ever Starbucks cafe in India located at Horniman Circle approximately a week after it opened. As I went there on a public holiday, I expected a long queue outside the cafe but to my surprise, there were just around 10 people standing in the queue (probably because I chose to go during the afternoon). Within 10-15 minutes, I entered inside and suddenly it struck me - This is nothing like any other Starbucks that I have visited! It was bigger and better in every way one could imagine. As I occupied an empty table with a friend, I could see that the staff was not all Indian. They had some American folks who had come down to ensure that Starbucks maintains their high quality. This I thought was a smart move.
So lets talk about the coffee now as that's what this review is for. The coffee at Starbucks was incredible and cheap too! The price is quite comparable to some other high-end cafes such as Costa Coffee and The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. I ordered for a Grande Cappuccino with Whipped Cream and the damage was only around 140 bucks inclusive of taxes (Grande or medium was probably bigger than "large" size for most cafes). So obviously, I thought the coffee was great value for money. The food however was slightly pricey. I ordered for a Veg. Wrap which was for 140 as well (But I guess that's fine as most people would not be bothered by that).
So all in all, I think Starbucks is here to stay and all the other cafes in India have now got some serious thinking to do. Perhaps, I will compare every other coffee shop that I visit to Starbucks because I believe that it cant get better than this!

Our very own local neighborhood Starbucks!

Every 'cool' desi who has stepped out of our country must have surely already had a taste of Starbucks and already must be a fan. We all have to accept the fact that there is something special about the brand which has lead to it's success the world over. I don't think India will be an exception.

The Place - Truly deserves to be the flagship store as it's 4500sq feet of Indian inspired interiors. For us desis is might not feel too special but for something who has been to the regular Starbucks abroad, it's far more premium. Seating for around 150 which could have been made to 400 easily which has to be appreciated. None of the tables intrude each other.

The Price - Wow! Probably cheaper or similar to our local costa and coffee bean. Also i think cheaper to Starbucks to most other countries. At these prices I see a runaway success.

The Food/Beverages - Forget the Coffees. They had me at the cookies. Simply nothing to beat them in town. Food also much above your average coffee joint. The Caramel Maccihiato tastes exactly like it should. This comes from a friend who could write a book about the "Caramel Maccihiato". Java Chip Frappaccino also done really well. All in all no compromise in quality. Does not taste Indianised.

The Result - Absolutely no way I would step into any other coffee shop given a choice between Starbucks!

Welcome to India!

Location : The first Starbucks outlet in Mumbai and you could not have found a better location - Horniman Circle, heart of Mumbai and midst of the old British buildings..

Ambience: Large, sprawling and a mediterranean rustic decor. Has a typical Taj Group touch in it.

Coffee : Out of world and tastes truly great. We tried the Latte, Frappucino and Cold Chocolate - all tasted good.

Food - We tried chatpata paratha wrap and Corn brioche - both too good a taste and wondered since when coffee shops serve good, tasty food.

All in all, desi brands CCD, Barista - beware and ready to transform, this one will give you run for money!

feel like home

Hi Guys!. Well I am writing this sitting in Starbucks itself. This place has a great ambiance. The crowd is definitely superb. No doubt the place is a bit expensive than the existing coffee joints like CCD or barista. But the place is definitely a try. I had a Frappuccino and customised it with whipped cream. and it was awesome. The place though lacks taste and choice on snacks...atleast for vegans,. But the drinks are splendid. Do Come here once!

Starbucks opens with a bang

Reached there on opening nite Friday at 10 pm and there were like 50 people wating,Went again at 11 30 pm and the 50 people had become 100. On Saturday morning the next day i decided to take a chance again and reached there at 11 am. There was still waiting but manged to get my order placed after an hour. I had the Java Frapuccino and it was delicious. The perfect combination of coffee, choclate chips, choclate sauce and whipped cream. I ordered the medium size which was pretty big. Its located in a beautiful old heritage building and on first impression the store is huge. It can easily seat around 100 people. The ambience is very cosy yet classy and very indian. Its very different from any Starbucks i have seen and the best part is that the prices are comparable to the other Indian chains. Starbucks has opened with a bang and its a welcome addition to South Mumbai.
