Refined Indian Cuisines

This place is personification of refined Indian cuisine. A perfect blend of aroma, spices, tandoor and flavours. Restaurant is well lit & spacious. Zaffran has the best chicken in town. All the curries and gravy items were spiced with balance, breads and rotis cooked to perfection, biryanis infused with saffron, great desserts. Their chicken zaffarani shorba with subtle flavours of saffron was just perfect. Undoubtedly the best Indian food around. Safe to go for prior reservation.

Royal RIP OFF for very average food

We went here on a weekend and my word this place is insanely over rated. The food is very average. The taste is not great at all.

To add to it the service is pathetic. It took them forever to serve the food.

Coming to the price, its a plain rip off, nothing else. We ordered starter and a main course and it cost like 800 per person. I can imagine the overhead for a restaurant in a big mall would be high, but then the quality of food and service should live up to it. I am better off having a buffet in a 3 star at that price.

I am done with this place! Good luck..

Great Place

Zaffran is a great place to go with a big group. It is located in Malad west. Restaurant is Air condotioned. Mughlai and North Indian both are available. Pomfret are also available as a seafood. Combination of veg zaffrani and any Paneer dish is really great. If you want to sit at home and have their foods then you can opt for take away.

Great place,bad service

A regular feature of all Zaffran outlets,as told by my friends -they have great food and horrible service. Was here with roommate and we ordered for Murg hariyali tikka, Butter chicken and naan. No doubt that the food is so tasty and portions are so big that even 1 gravy dish can be shared with 3 people -but the servers are least interested in their job. Nobody came to refill our water glasses until we called repeatedly, the food order was taken after 20 minutes, food came after we asked for it twice-complete mismanagement. Saving grace is that food is simply yum!

Lovely place for a fine dining experience

Zaffran... Good food, good ambiance and great interiors! We go to Zaffran for a quiet dinner or for a good meal with a large group. The menu has a plethora of options to choose from, both in Vegetarian as well as Non-Vegetarian. The place won't burn a a hole in your pocket either.

Recommendation: Try the Afghani Chicken and the Signature Chenna Payesh. Delicious!

great food and ambiance...

...but service is not upto the mark. we were a party of 5 people,2 veggies and rest non veggies and we ordered 1 biryani,2 lachha parathas, 1 naan, 1 veg zaffrani, 1 paneer dish and 1 chicken dish and the order was so mismanaged,we first had to wait half hour for the veggies to arrive then another 5 minutes for the parathas and naan to arrive, then another 15 minutes for biryani to arrive and another 15 minutes for the chicken dish for the non veggies! so chaotic! even though it wasn't completely full! food is fantastic no doubt and portions are very good.

Hyped

Went with friends looking for a dish- RAAN .
We were told to wait as the place was full. reached around 1:30 pm - got to go inside the restaurant @ 3:00pm- UFF- waiting for such long time and end result--- NO RAAN DISH AVAILAB:LE DISAPPOINTED; ( had they informed us - we would not have been waiting )
but as we had entered and decided to have lunch. The Chef personally came to our table and took our order. The dish made out of chicken- was indeed delicious; being hungry made it more tastier. Roti Basket arrived; good crispy. chicken Biryani - taste okay.

Service- slow- we have to call the waiter for repeat orders-
Even for the Bill we had to wait- & that too when there were no rush.

Price too high for the quality of the food.

if you go please book your table before hand. Not to expect much from the food.

THEME - REORDER, REMIND and REBILL

This was perhaps my 5-6th visit to Zaffran – Malad, Mumbai. And definitely I have been coming back for awesome food and the lovely ambience. It was a heavy Sunday afternoon, I and my parents had to wait for ½ hour before we got seats. I understand. I also understand the delay in serving food. I had to check with FEW waiters (by waving my hand in the air, because we were shifted to a corner table and not much waiters could walk the distance, you know!) before I could get the food on my table. This reminder was sent after I see food being served to people who came in later. (Hey, there was line waiting outside, remember???)Precisely 25 minutes is too much for 1 Chicken Starter, 1 Gravy Dish and 2 Naans. But I again understand. It’s okay!
What I don’t understand is despite the time taken to serve the food, half of the food in missing!!! No starters! Why? Because he did not remember to cook them! (Now this is in spite of repeating the order!) Ah, we were moved to a different seat earlier at the corner. And we were really ignored!
And then (since I was very hungry) I decided to order the starters again while we were having our main course. (A few chunks of chicken are no harm to munch along with naan!) And finally after 15 mins, woohoo our starter is served. Wait, hard to ignore the missing salad along with it! Hmpf- OKAY! (Hey this is my 5-6th visit, I know!)
We were occasionally asked if we wanted drinks to go along. But people first naturally ask for water!
Wait, water? Well that can wait. If not for the food we were eating I could imagine the earth has stopped. Tik , tik, tik,……Okay, now we get water!! And I eventually order for drinks. I ask that to one pesky waiter (we will come back to him later, damn should have noted his name!) and he nods in acceptance. Wait, wait, wait, wait, I remember asking for 2 glasses of jeera soda and one pepsi, hell that’s no magical potion. What’s with the delay! Because Mr. Pesky, the waiter, forgets!! (But he doesn't forget to bill it later!) And I think that was their theme for the day, REORDER and REMIND! And we had to oblige. Finally I was sceptical of asking for more food, damn but the heavenly Murg Biryani.
And I order. But I think the waiters had some internal game or something. They didn't quite like us, now 2 minutes after ordering food, cleaner comes to clear all the plates. Hey YOU, STOP I have ordered for Murg Biryani. He then decides to keep the plate down and THEN thinks of bringing in a new plate.
Ahhan, Murg Biryani arrives on time. I had to pinch myself! Okay, that was smooth. Now people I am very hungry and I decided to go for desserts and being their regular customer, I swear by their chocolate mudpie! Okay, 1 Chocolate Mudpie and 1 Zaffran Special Payesh please. Okay, again smooth, quick service. Damn, why did I get carried away by the sight of the delicious mudpie and forget to notice the missing spoons!!!!! Helllo, waiter , hello….spoon,spoon. I literally wanted to walk down to their main counter and ask for spoons or just simply shout after much ordeal. I just wanted to do that. 5 mins later we get spoons. No, they were not handmade (probably that could have explained the delay!) Because of full house, I didn't quite raise my voice. We are not done yet! This really was some internal game planned by the service team that could cool them off on Sunday afternoon rush! I repeat we are not done yet!

Hey, I think I mentioned the theme as Remind and Reorder. Well, I was wrong, I am now made to believe that it was REORDER, REMIND and REBILL. This Mr. Pesky was thought he was doing wonderful job and decided to bill us the drinks twice. Because we told him once and since he forgets, we remind and that’s how people, 1(order) +1(reminder) makes it 2(on the bill). Wow, 4 Jeera Sodas and 2 Pepsis, we must be really hungry! By now I am ready to storm off in search of feedback form at the reception outside. I leave no tip behind (the customary Rs. 50/100 that we dole out) in spite of my parents coaxing me to. Oh wait, a little more about Mr. Pesky. As I walk out, looking pretty pissed, Pesky decides to shoot a chuckle. I decide I am not setting my foot here again!

I am really miffed now, because I would rave about the food and the ambience and also the service. But no more! Never again I would want to visit Zaffran. By reading this post on various internet reviews, you will not lose much. People won’t give a damn about how you managed to get few bad reviews out of personal experience. But I am sure me and my friends are not coming back. I am also sure I would not have anything nice to say about your service. On a Sunday afternoon, you decide to get in your amateur worst waiters?? Why don’t you put up a board outside warning customers about this experiment? There is nothing much that can be done now. But I really wanted to voice my opinion because your service has been either degraded or you don’t know how to handle a full house or you really hire a bunch of debauched waiters, lazy enough to not cover up to the last table and even give out a chuckle after much ordeal!

A great place for fine dinning.

Thanks to the Birya's for maintaining there family legacy of providing the best food, best service and an over all dinning experiance of a class. The ambiance is maintained with apt lighting and the soothing sweet fragrance from the water bodies.

Food is certainly prepared with athenticity, served by friendly staffers always ready to respond to the querries. Indeed a cool place for the one who loves to eat authentic food. Pricing though a little on a higher side but is worth for what one gets.

Nice Decor

This was the second outlet of Zaffran Hotel Chain in Infinity Mall 2. The place is superbly decorated and the ambience is very chilling and relaxing. When you enter the resto the outside Food Court noise is cut to zero. As I am a Jain person, they hardly had any options in food, hence didnt have food here. But going by Zaffran's standards I am Sure the food would had been worth complimenting.

delicious food !!

Head to zaffran if u r at the mall and really hungry then just avoid the food court and head to zaffran for a calm n peaceful ambience.. Dim light .. Polite staff and spacious seating..
We were just 2 off us and wanted to try both veg and non-veg varieties..
So we ordered chicken black peppered as starters.. Soft juicy..tender..well cooked .. Nicely marinated..perfect balance of flavor..we then went ahead with a veg main course .. Veg kolhapuri garlic naan and dal tadka.. And every thing was just delicious.. Served piping hot...the naan was soft n crisp a perfectly cooked just d way I like..and which don't turn rubbery..we were so fullll...good quantity..love the food..

Best Mughlai Cuisine

I have been to Zaffran, like n number of times but somehow I just don't seem to get enough of this place!!

Ambiance : The place is Not too huge considering it is in mall, but Food Beats it all.
The place is well lit and properly air conditioned. The seating is very comfortable with couches which allow you to sink in and just lie for a while.
Loved the ambiance. The interiors are aesthetically very pleasing. The decor is very soothing and gives a feeling of being at a royal place.

Service : The service is friendly and quite welcoming, yet at the same time is equally prompt and crisp, which definitely is a huge tick!

Food : Have visited this place at many an unearthly hour and even during the saner dining hours, the biryani has been super consistent and lip smacking since as long as I can remember!
Almost everything on their menu is delicious!!

We ordered:
Murg Zafrani shorba 175
Murg zaffrani tikka 335
Zaffran-e-murg mussalam 575
Roomali Roti 55*1
Murg Tikka biryani 400
Zaffrani Phirni 100

Damages : 2200 for 4. The prices are slightly high but the quality and service they provided its really worth it.

Verdict : The prices are slightly high but the quality and service they provided its really worth it.

Decent

I have heard about Zaffran, so visited the Zaffran outlet which is there at Infinity Mall on link road Malad (W). Food was decent and service too. Wasn't that great though. The option for veg food are limited. Place is normally full and crowded because of its presence in the mall. Though, the ambiance is good. Hence it is important to book your tables well in advance. Music played in the background is also very good. Can be visited as it compliments the mall as well.

I had heard too much about Zaffran. As it is I was at Infinity mall so decided to give it a try. And surely I was not let down at all. The murg tangdi kabab we ordered for starters was just marvelous. It simply melts in your mouth. Something definitely should try. And Jhinga Masala is a must for all the sea food lovers. Its totally delicious. Also do not go without having the Caramel custard for dessert. The rate is little on higher side

I visited Zaffran few months back on a very strong recommendation from a friend. Being a special day, I was very choosy about where I want to spend my evening and Zaffran came across as a Real Bundle of Happiness! The Perfect Ambiance, Perfectly soothing Music, Perfect Seating, Timely and prompt Service and Amazing Food, all made up for one of the memorable evenings!

We had our drinks and ordered for starters with taking suggestions from the waiter there and believe me it was Worth every penny spent. I would not forget to mention the Amazing Paneer Tikka Masala and Garlic Cheese Nans!!! Yummmm!!! It was supremely amazing!

All in all a perfect evening with Zaffran! Its definitely on my most Loved places List in town! :) Thanks!!

"Pue Delight"

Our dinner at Zaffrani was probably one of the best north indian dinner we ever had. We had Veg Galouti Kabab and was just melting in our mouths, the flavors were amazing. Absolutely delicious. The Paneer Tikka Masala is also worth mentioning., one of the few places who uses marinated Charcoal Grilled Paneer in Paneer Tikka Masala. This place going to be regular in our dining calender. The downside are the few seating arrangements being very close to each other. The Service is not that attentive despite charging you 10% service charge.

Lip smacking

decision to hav lunch here was impromptu as the hunger pangs stung after a great round of shopping. I must say, a well made decision. Tried the zaffrani chicken tikka and the all the fav butter chicken. The tikka marinated in a smooth paste of cashews n lingering flavor of kevda. As you pop up a chunky piece of chicken, you can sense amazing flavors of well marinated chicken. Butter Chicken, one of the Best I've ever had, lip smacking and the taste of the rich gravy lingers. All n all a fab l
unch ! A bit bigger hole to your pocket but absolutely worth it for the quality and portion size too! So, next time I think of Butter Chicken in Mumbai my mind wud certainly race to Zaffran

Heard a lot about Zaffran, so we visited the Zaffran outlet at Infinity Mall,Malad(W).
Was a big disappointment as we neither liked the food nor the service.
The veg options are limited and the food did not stand out.
Lots of colour in the punjabi dishes we ordered.
what was served was totally different from what was described when order was placed and we had to call the waiter even to clear the table.
Place is crowded and noisy.
Only positive is the ambience.

Rude Receptionist

It was my Parents' anniversary, and i had called to reserve a table and a cake. some lady receptionist with a faux-japan-meets-assam picked up the phone. well, even after repeatedly asking her to repeat herself, i couldnt figure out what she intended to say. perhaps she was imagining that the Restaurant was in China? :P the point is, she just happened to say OMG...and disconnect the phone ! i have never in my life experienced such a rude receptionist ever...not in Dhabas..and not even in 5 stars. she did call back...but it ended up irritating me to such an extent that i moved my plans to some other hotel....
is the manager listening ? please hire someone with people skills next time...

Zaffr(u)n - run

Me and my cousins went here to have our dinner. Had heard good things about zaffran, right from food, ambiance, service.

We were 7 people. To start off, we had ordered starters which had Tandoori broccoli, one kebab and one mushroom starter.

Of all the 3 starters, the only starter that was really good was Mushroom. It was lip smackingly delicious. The other two were absolute horror, the kebab had only 6 pieces and the broccoli was just dipped in a sauce and the top of the broccoli was just made slightly black to make us feel it was made in tandoor. Restaurant of such stature makes starters like this??

To end our horror ordeal with the starters, we decided to jump on to the main course. We ordered dal makhni, zafrani paneer makhni, subz handi and various rotis. To be very sincere, none of the veggies were good, they were sweet. I just din understand what had they made. The dal makhni was absolute bland, tasteless and with no salt in it. We had to force ourselves to just eat the crap that was served. To end our dinner, we decided to order biryani and yellow dal. The only veg option in biryani was veg biryani, no dum biryani. The waiter who served the biryani was not aware of how to serve it. The upper portion was given to few people and the main mixture was given to other people. So, some guys had only rice and some guys had only the mixture. And mind you, none of that was even eatable, it was just sour. Biryani is sour?? (had heard that this place is famous for biryani). The yellow dal was really good.

The only thing of what we had ordered and was eatable was mushroom starter and the yellow dal.

Overall,

Ambiance - 3.5 / 5.
Service - 4 / 5,
Food - 2 / 5.

Cheerz!!

Happy Eating!!

My husband and my best friend decide to go for dinner on burrp recommendation we popped at Zaffran..

Food - we order panner tikka it was delicious and galouti kebabs are to die for.. perfect combination of spices and meat is so tender is dissolves in our mouth. For main course we ordered Murg Musallam..the quantity was too much for 3..but the taste we excellent.

Ambience is lovey with soothing music .

Service is good.

Staff here is a quite efficient and thus the service leaves nothing to complain.

The dinner here was memorable and special...Three Cheers

Keep it up!!!

Mouth Watering Kebabs !!!

Tried out the kebabs, biryani and desserts and they were simply too good. The ambience and interiors are really done up well. Make sure to book the table early or else there could be a long waiting time.
Been to the Zaffran's @ RCity,Ghatkopar and Infinity,Malad and both the places were really good.

Good food, excellent service!

I go to Zaffran quite often even though I live an hour away from the location! That speaks volumes of their service, ambience & food. This is one restaurant that serves delicious veg as well as non-veg food. We didn't have to wait too long for the food to arrive and a special mention of Sharmila's service - we didn't have to call her even once to serve us as she knew just when to arrive and when to disappear - leaving us with our own 'space'. The music is not too loud which is good as conversations are free-flowing.

Finger lickkinng good~~

Tried the place on a friends recommendation. It was a wonderful experience to be guided & placed as requested in spite of the weekend rush. We tried the Galouti kababs & Paneer aachari...Well marinated & tender pieces of paneer just made my day. Starters were followed with Roomali roti & Chicken tikka masala. I had the best Chicken tikka masala of my life (Not exaggerating).. The head chef was on floor available for us to share the experience.. A weekend made special just by the food.... Keep it up !!!
Con: Long wait on weekends..To avoid rush book early...before 8pm.

Awesome place

My husband and my favourite place to have biryani. The saffron flavour is what hooked us in. Plus their starters too are amazing. Have visited this place a lot many times. If you want to have a good time and a good meal, this is a place that you can go to blindly. Plus, their decor is gorgeous too. Love the whole water-stream effect with Sufi music playing in the background.

Foodie's Delight

Galouti kebab…simply melts in the mouth…amazing…. Rich rogan ghosh (very very filling)… Garlic bread with just the right amount of garlic… soft thin roomali rotis…butter chicken was strictly Okay.. Chicken biriyani was a letdown though.. would have preferred thinner grains of rice….
Attentive and efficient staff. They know their food, which was very helpful….Beautiful decor...Over all a great meal… One place that I’ll keep coming back to…and will suggest others too

"ENCHANTING"

Wanted to go to Zaffran from a long time. Friends had recommended the place. Finally, got the chance for my dad's b'day. The experience was NICE.

Ambience- The place is very well done...The interiors with the water-based theme adds to the elegant touch...Really liked it.

Food- The starters were very nice...both veg and non-veg.....we did not have much of the main course but the veg was decent....The tikka biryani is FLAWLESS....The portions are good..

Service- The service is pretty good.

Prices- A little pricey. Good for occassions!

Do try it

Only good food to write about

Been there after hearing abt the place from friends.
Found food to be really good (check out golouti kebabs) and mocktails are even better. Ambiance was nice
But, nothing good to write about the private dining space despite the price you pay. Unless you are a group of 6, which may get a full sofa, not really a good place for a couple to go and have their space as it looks like sitting on a long sofa with unknown guys separated by a hand distance. Even a food court gives a group/couple more private space than this place. May be Zaffran would listen, and stop trying to get more yield out of the small place they have in there.

Wonderful Ambiance

Me and my friend thought of trying out Zaffran since we had heard great things about this place from many friends as well as fellow Burrpers. In any case that was the only good restaurant we hadn't tried at the Infinity 2 Mall.

So lets start with the ambiance; which I find to be the best part of this place. It's got a very royal look with chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, comfortable seating arrangement and water running through the corners. You definitely feel like you have entered a fine dining place.

The food is yummy! We tried their tomato soup, a paneer subji and naan and the veg biryani. All of it was very tasty and the quantities were huge. We couldnt finish the biryani at the end. Even the masala papad and the salad was presented very well.

Service was very good. Though there was waiting involved, there was no confusion on chaos. The waiters were attentive and prompt.

Overall it was very good to be there. Would like to go back and try out more options because I am sure I won't regret it.

Surprisingly poor food quality

With high expectations after reading and listening to very good reviews, I went there with hopes of getting a treat to my tastebuds... Instead what I got was a burnt veg Galouti Kebab, a naan close to rubber and a neighboring table complaining about lamb Galouti kebab. The raita & courteous staff somewhat redeemed the bad experience. Hence, 2 stars.

Best Mughlai Food

One of the best north indian food ever had. They have very limited options for vegetarians, but whatever they have...is the best. White Tomato soup...tickeled the taste buds and the paneer was too soft and quick to melt in the mouth. The ambience is very nice. The serving size justifies the amount they charge for.

If its your birthday, then they would go an extra mile to present a birthday jinggle with a small performance, followed by a complementary dessert for the bithday boy / girl.

But I was really pleasently surprised as the sevice was really quick. And the food quality was also great despite the high rush.

Disappointed!

Went there for a dinner. Even though I knew it was going to be overpriced. But wanted to check it out after all the hype.
Starter: Pudina Paneer Tikka (extremely bland, no hint of pudina at all, total waste of Rs. 270)
Main Course: Paneer Tikka Masala (MY GOD! Blew my head off. I guess they put all the spice in the world to make up for that horridly bland starter. We were sweating and panting the whole time. All you could taste was some chili sauce. And trust me, I love spicy food. Rs. 300 waste)
Rotis were good, staff was decent, ambiance was nice.

Over-hyped, Over-priced, sub-par food. Not worth it AT ALL.

Do not do Justice to the name!

Well! I've been off the radar for the past few months, as I was tied up with a lot of work, and could not log on or visit places. Couple of weeks back I visited Infinity and my love for food brought me to Zaffran. Ideally I would want to rate restaurants on four basic elements. Let me rate them on a scale of 1-5 with 5 being the best.
Ambience: 4
Food: 2
Service: 2
Treatment: 1
Ambience is excellent, they've decked up the place really nice, Food I beleive was average nothing that tickled my taste buds. We ordered a Lucknowi Seekh Kebab (Rs 395) and a Lamb Dum Handi(Rs 395) Although it reads lamb it is goat meat. The wait time was approximately 2 HOURS for a table for 2. And the table that we got after a couple of hours had a leaking a/c which added to my woes. They really need to take lessons from small time restaurants like Naaz on how to handle crowds. Average quality of food after a couple of hours of waiting does not mingle well!! To sum it up, if I'd have to choose from a undiscovered territory and Zaffran the next time around, I'd certainly take up the challange of discovering something new.

Decent, but over hyped.

Maybe this is a case of high expectations not getting fulfilled, but Zaffran Malad was an average experience.
We ordered roomali masala papad, which was half cooked in the sides... the garlic prawns in the starters were deep fried (we had confirmed we dont need deep fried) and tasted bland.
The only saving grace were the chicken kebabs, however not the best. The service was average too.

Bad Bad Bad

We had a team lunch here ..
Our office is in Prism, Mindspace and there are plenty of options to choose from in Malad.
However reading all the reviews from here, we decided to go to zaffran for a team lunch on Friday.
Sadly, the experience was exactly the opposite of what we had read here.
The service was pathetic.
Ambience was amazing :)
Snacks were also good.
Food both Veg and non veg was awful .
I had never tasted such poor biryaani .. Chiken biryani was So So Bad that we finallly ordered Steam Rice , as this is the easiest thing to make and our good luck, atleast that was normal.
Subz biryaani was also bad.
Butter chicken which is claimed as a speciality, was just like a normal thing which you will get at any normal hotel/restaurant.
The service was pathetic which we haven't event dreamt off.
We paid around 750 + for an alacarte.
We used to get a much better food in similar nearby hotels like grand sarovar, machaan etc.

So friends,, its a strict no no no from myside.

Decent food,good ambience

THe elevated placement gives it a higher notch(pun intended) among the others in the cacophony of restaurants in Infinity2.
The constricted space is made most of by the tables' placement ,with streams of water alongside the tables.
Ordered Murg banjara kabab - chicken in onion marinade & Achari paneer tikka- soft & succulent.
The subz biryani Zaffrani was a letdown since we asked for a spicier version, but it was bland to the taste.
Overall,this would fetch a 3/5.

Straight from the King's palace

Wanna cherish your taste buds in the epitome of gastronomy? Zaffran brilliantly overflows elegance & hospitality right from you enter, till you exit. No stone is left untouched when it comes to exquisite food, soothing ambience and pampered service. Zaffran embodies high degree of Indian Royalty which not only fills the appetite of the richest of rich but also a normal person like me. These are not empty words; I mean it when I make such a statement! Here’s a glimpse of how Zaffran looks. It’s got a pathway around the border walls of the restaurant in which there’s water flowing gently which adds to the gleam. It’s a well lighted place with good use of chandeliers and lanterns adding warmth to the ambience and the music sets the atmosphere for you to bask in the richness of what Zaffran has to offer you.

It’s difficult to find right words to comprehend the goodness of the food; nevertheless I’ll try my best to elucidate my view on the food. So the first course of the meal to hit my table are 2 soups viz.Tomato Dhanta Shorba(Rs.135) where tomatoes never tasted so good to me before and Murg Zaffrani Shorba (Rs.150) is done up perfectly. Next lined up is starters which I can’t wait to devour are Murg Kalmi Tangdi Kaba(Rs.300) are super duper scrumptious 4 pieces of golden fried egg coated chicken breast & leg pieces. It is so irresistibly tasty that I even felt like chewing the bones but gotto maintain some decency & etiquette. The Achari Paneer Tikka(Rs.270) is simply amazing and the Chilli cheese pakoras (Rs.270) is nice crispy fuming pakoras of about 8 pieces. I wonder how they bring out so much beauty out of their food! That’s art indeed! There’s still more arriving my table! Now comes the main course with Murg Patiyala (Rs.365) is rich thick gravy with fine layers of egg white and it looks like it is made in a cream base. Dum subz handi zaffrani (Rs.300) is okie dokie, I say so because after feasting on the non veg gravy, the veg gravy has little chance to stand the test. Ofcourse along with the gravies I had butter naan(Rs.60), butter roomali roti (Rs.65), plain roti (Rs.45), cheese naan (Rs.90) and
butter roti (Rs.50).

Unfortunately my stomach had no capacity to try out rice items. Every item I ordered is so rich & heavy, that each morsel is as good as it were straight from a king’s palace! So I wrap my rich meal with 2 sweets viz the Zaffrani Phirni (Rs.100) which is nice chilled cooked rice based sweet served in an earthen vessel and the kulfi malai (Rs.130) was good too.

Zaffran’s food is hypnotizing good. Everything on the plate is carefully crafted to please the palate.Whatever I’ve mentioned here in this post is just a tip of the iceberg. Save up some money and check out this place. Though on the higher side, it’s worth every penny.

My rating for Zaffran:

Ambience 8/10

Value for money 7.5/10

Service 8/10

Taste 9.8/10

Lack of Passion | No Importance of Flavours

Hmm.... So you are done with shopping comparing prices and merchandise from store to store in this huge mall. You see a massive food court with an elevated, exquisite looking restaurant sensationally named "Zaffran" (Saffron). From the looks of it; the word expensive crosses your mind. Nevertheless the heart says "Try It, it should be worth it".

Entrance:
So I enter this restaurant and it seems like a passage which has been decorated with dim lights and a stream of dusty / cloudy water running through the borders of the restaurant. Atleast the noise in the foodcourt is minimized thats one + but not a winner.

Seating:
As you are seated and watch over the menu; you are not surprised to see exorbitant prices and you still believe it would be worth it... "Aaaal iz Welll".

Food:

Main-course:
I made it very clear to the waiter that I want something subtle and full of flavour. I do not expect a dish costing Rs. 365 to be similar to any average roadside dhaba who would not care for the flavours of the ingredients and would just throw in the usual spices, mix them with the meat and few vegetables. And thats what exactly the dish turned out to be. The flavours of the chicken, the spices, the texture, the consistency was a BIG FAIL!!!! The spices and use of the usual thick brown gravy killed the freshness of the dish and just made it heavy and spicy. Final Verdict : FAIL!!

Bread (Naan):
Naan the usual Indian bread that can never fail the taste test is priced at Rs. 50 each. Is that cost justified: Coz the naan at Rs. 50 has to be evenly baked, soft and should melt in your mouth..... Is it too much to expect at Rs. 50.... ?? Yes it is to much to expect at Zaffran; coz the Naan served is not evenly baked, is rubbery and is a task to break / cut with your fingers. Final Verdict: FAIL!!

Biryani: This dish cannot be wrong coz ppl have praised it exclusively. I made a mistake of ordering the famous Biryani. The cost again Rs. 350. At this price it wouldn't be wrong to expect subtle flavours, saffron aroma, right spice and melting meat. But again the Biryani at zaffran is just a bowl of meat pulao you would find in an ordinary restaurant. No aroma, No melting meat, No subtle flavours, No appeal to the senses, No attention to detail. A authentic Biryani all food lovers would know consists of aroma's derived from rose / kevda essence along with mild flavours of spices and use of "Zaffran" (Saffron).

So Zaffran/Saffron (not referring to the restaurant; referring to the actual spice) the most expensive SPICE of the world has rightfully earned its name coz it sensationalizes the most important senses: aroma (Nose/olfactory sense), color (Eyes/ visual sense) and taste (Tounge/gustatory sense).

BUT at these prices ZAFFRAN (the restaurant); FAILS TO PLEASE ANY OF THE ABOVE SENSES. HENCE IT IS A FAIL!!

Just Because your name is Zaffran and you have acquired a place in a plush mall does not justify charging high prices for mediocre dishes. High Prices = High Standards.....

Excellent food, if a little spicy.

The flavours were excellent, we had the galouti kebabs, the raan, murg mussallam, butter chicken and some naans and rice.

Go in a big group, the portions are pretty good, the order above was enough for 10 people who couldn't eat another bite.

Ask them to tone down the chilies, unless you like your food very spicy. Also keep in mind that they include a 10% service charge, so tip only if you want to leave more than 10%.

Great Food

Been there on an early Saturday evening - thankfully around 7.15 - toooo early to have dinner but v decided to have dinner at that time to avoid the Crowd. Got a great table with the waterfall flowing. Order Chicken Hariyali kebabs which were suppperb...extremely soft & flavoursome..Ordered Kulcha which was great & their famed Butter Chicken - which was byfar the best butter chicken of my life..Toooo gooood so much so - that besides appreciating the food v did not talk much. We were too involved to enjoy the food.
Service is excellent....Loved the place, interior, Guess for the quality of exquisite food the prices are fair.

Absolutely Fabulous

While killing time at Infinity Mall, we decided to go to Zaffran for lunch as a friend of mine had sung a lot of praises about this place. It more than lived up to the expectations.

Since both my fiance and me are fond of food, but without a giant's appetite, we usually avoid soups or starters. We dived into the main course with a mushroom dish and pudina-naans. Food was excellent. Ambiance was too good. Staff was very polite and helpful. I can't find a single point of criticism, except probably the rates being slightly on the higher side, preventing me from going there frequently. But it is worth every rupee you will spend.

Planning to go there again soon.

Request: I know it is a common practice at all restaurants these days to list pre-tax amounts, customers usually find this to be unfair. A customer wants to know how much he is paying, not how much you are earning. Please list tax-included amounts in the menu card.

heavy bill...heavier stomach

Zaffran is for those who love to indulge and are heavy eaters. Make sure that you are super hungry before heading there. The food is great....no doubt about it.

We went there for dinner a couple of weeks ago and since we were already done with the starters and some beer (due to long wait we went to the ManU Cafe for a quick drink) we ordered the main course; masala papad, Mutton seekh kebabs, chicken curry (I don't remember the name of the dish) and roti basket. The portions were huge and four of us couldn't finish it all. Food had a rich flavour and roti basket had a lot to choose from. For dessert we ordered a chena paish which was equally delicious. Service was good and quick.

The prices are a little on the higher side but seeing the quantity, I am not complaining.

Zaffran - Infinity Malad

On a crowded Saturday evening, while we were checking out the new Infinity Mall in Malad west, my friend and I decided to try out this new place called Zaffran.

There was a huge bunch of people waiting outside for a place, and I was instantly discouraged to wait for my chance. However, luckily, I got a table for two within minutes, which brought a victorious smile on my face. The ambience of the restaurant is really fine with interesting interiors and a fine shade of yellow light spread all over. The table that we were given, however, was far from cozy and was surrounded far too closely by other tables on both sides, which restricts this place from being a good one to converse.

The food was fantastic in quality. Murgh Shorba was what we started with, along with Masala Papads, and it had a peculiar taste that delighted my taste-buds. We skipped the starters and switched directly to the main course which continued to keep us engaged. Palak Ghosht was quite fine. The gravy had a lovely flavour and a good aroma too. The mutton was well-marinated. Just to be on the critical side, I think it should have been cooked for a bit longer and made slightly softer than it was. The breads we ordered - the Naans and the Laccha Parathas - were up to the mark.

For some reason, we decided not to have rice that night and neither of us being a fan of sweets, we skipped that part of the meal as well.

The bill was about 850/- which would make me think that the place was slightly over-priced since we only had a two-course meal.

To summarize, at Zaffran, the food is very good, the ambience is quite fine, apart from the congested seating-arrangement, and the price is slightly on the higher side. However, if you are particularly fond of Mughlai food, do not hesitate to visit Zaffran.

Good food, but a li'l bit expensive

Amazing food, coupled with a relaxing ambience and quick service... only problem is that the high rates cannot be justified... The overall cost may come down if u go in a group, say 6-8 people, but for 2-3 persons, the per person cost crosses 600/- so definitely not a VFM.. However, the overall experience was so good that an occassional indulgence is strongly recommended...
