Next is a tad Better...

Shabari Next....is a bit better in terms of food, presentation, taste:) if it can be. Tried the Sada dosa, Masala dosa, Pav Bhaji & Sandwich. Found the Sada & Masala more or less the same, but the sambhar was definitely better (not gujju sweet) & the chutney less watery. But the Pav Bhaji was good....if they can be consistent would give Shreejee a run for their money. The Sandwich - veg - was good, yummy, more or less as good as the ones on the raasta:) Would prefer Next over the 2nd.

theek hai

The ground floor is undergoing renovation, last time we visited which was a couple of months back. The basement is a tad crowded, particularly with regulars & the ceiling a little low. Some of the vegetarian food is good & the accompaniments with drinks may be one of the reason. Have never had an occasion to try out the non veg.

Bake, Cake, Rolls & More

Practically an institution & landmark in lokhandwala. Makes one wonder, why it did not feature.

Opens at 7 am in the morning. Fresh Bruns, idlis for those in need of sustenance. Come 9.30 -10 & the wide array of bread rolls, with veg & non veg stuffings - manchurian, tikkas, paneer, aloo, & what have you.

There are some pizzas also that can be heated & are reasonably good. Then the veg & non veg pattice.

By 12 the hot & fresh frankie; grilled sandwiches & the works are all ready to be had......this goes on till late night.....

Teens, aunty, uncle, servants, driver, you name it & they have eaten here!!!!!

Lovely location & pathetic food...

A friend meeting after a long time, suggested this place. I always knew it a decade back with cheap drinks & economical food.

Reached there & was surprised to see the ambiance which was extremely good. The inside had been enlarged with the AC working well. The outside was enclosed out with lovely tables, chairs & benches with Air Coolers give some additional breeze.

Since Sailesh was already sitting outside, joined him & ordered a pint to begin with. We were served khimchi & cheeslings (with constant replenishments).

However hungry that we were (sailesh already having tried the dim sum) looked at the menu with light from the phone, since there are only candles on the tables.

Without being adventuresome ordered Crispy Thread Chicken (chicken covered with crisp noodles) (150). Delivered promptly, hot alongwith the sauces - black bean, schezwan , chilli......

The first fork & the noodles started flying all over the place, with no sign of chicken, then aha! a piece, rubber invented all over again.....

Since the portion was small finished them off with the sauce. Black bean tasted nothing like any other place & was informed proudly by the server that it was made here.

Another friend having joined us here, we decided to be brave, consult the menu again & order - Crispy Chicken (150)as recommended by them & Chicken Sui Mai(150) by sailesh.

Crispy chicken came so promptly that we were forced to ask if it was someone's cancelled order. 1st piece & Sailesh thru a tantrum; went all over explaining why the chicken was crisp & the entire two bits of gyan, with me hoping to get a word in. However the net result being, they replaced the dish with Chicken Fuchi Style (160). If anything it was even worse.

In the meantime Sui Mai were brought in & served 2 to each one of us, AND then the server is holding 1 piece & looking at sailesh enquiringly???

So he goes like Hellow; Hellow the earlier time there were 6 pcs & now 7 so if we order a 3rd time will it be 8.....what's going on....answer - sir it is normally 6-7; jeez maan give us break, even panipuri is 6/8/12 never 6-7

At 11.15pm we asked to speak to the chef, who after a lot of searching, were told had left!!! Imagine when the restaurant closes at 12.

So the evening ended!!!

Ambiance 4/5
Food 2/5 (Only for the cheeslings & sui mai)
Service 1/5 (for the replacement & replenishment)

And MIND IT this is run by a old caterer FoodLink Services India Pvt. Ltd.

A Complete Letdown

Was in Matunga on way to Wadala after a long time yesterday. With the Madras Cafe overcrowded, decided to try this out. Time being 1 pm, they were mostly interested in pushing their Thali & Mango milk shake. Ordered a idli vada mix; decent, bu the sambhar was pathetic, worse than a gujju dal.....& worse COLD Still decided to give the benefit of doubt, ordered a rava sada Kadak....Good dosa, the extra paid for chatni was good, but the sambhar..same. To top it all I was lordly informed that 'People come here for the sambhar' Decided not to risk the London referred (on the back of their menu) chips & hurriedly went away.
