Good
So there is this relatively new place in Bandra (that in itself should keep it going for a few months) - its just down the road from KFC when you turn left there..... on the 5th floor of a Mall (next to Mumbai Times Cafe).
Now, this place has the ambience completely going for it - for a start its open air (nice at this time of the year and being on the 5th floor helps). Also, sand on the floor (remember 'coast'), neatly laid out tables and an open kitchen area - see, all good this far, but some withering palm trees kind of take away from it .....
Service is good - we were there on a weeknight and so it was specially attentive without one feeling that the waiter wanted to join you for dinner / in your conversation (he did have a strange American accent though).
The food - starters (Bombay Duck and Squid), main course (Fish Curry, Prawn Curry, Appams, Rice) and dessert (Kulfi and Modak) were all uniformly nice. An added advantage was that none of the curries had oil floating around at all (or maybe it was too dark to see ;-)).
And the damage - quite reasonable actually - with drinks (well, a lot of drinks actually ..... and the secret seems to be to get the Indian wines which are nicely priced.....) it came to just over one of the big ones per head.
Overall, if you havent been there ..... do so......

Excellent
Candies - and this work equally well for the Reclamation and Union Park outlet - is overall a great place!
The Big Plus - the Food. I have done take-away from both outlets on numerous occassions, and really, have never been disappointed. From the small 'mini meals' and chinese, to the sandwiches and rolls, to the desserts and cakes - all good !! Great variety too (all snacks or such like) which works when you have people with different likings, though very little Indian. And, there drinks (coolers etc.) are not too bad either.
The watchouts - (1) Calories - most of their food seems loaded with them....is the relationship between calories and taste realy true after all? (2) Service while freindly is not the most efficient ....
All-in-all a very good experience largely for the great tasting food at reasonable prices...
Just wonder why they havent spread afield from Bandra ...

Average
I am quite convinced, rightly so I am sure, that in Mumbai location is 110% of the battle for a bar/restaraunt .......
Sports Bar has a great location in Phoenix Mills - office AND shopping crowd !!
The music is decent (rock/pop, typically of the 60s to 90s vintage) and the starters arent too bad either (some of them though could put you back a month on that weight loss schedule though).
The service sucks though - Pretty rude waiters and they will ignore you during the peak times. Also, have been known to over charge for drinks in the dying moments of the place.
Incidentally, the place does have quite a bit of sports paraphenalia - a pool table and a basketball hoop.
However, what used to be the USP of the place - a projection screen, while still large (;-)) is paling, literally and especially compared with the digital scenes in other places.
Still, a decent hang-out-with-the-boys kind of place.

Good
Hmmmmm......... its always difficult to review your fall-back option (!) but here goes.....
First, the place has improved significantly in the last 2 years (for all those who had bad experiences before that, as did I)
Second, the place is large, but the much nicer area is the outside - nice decor (nothing loud), and its a rarity in Mumbai. The inside isnt as great, but in the summer there is really no choice !
Third, and most importantly the food - Well its good, not excellent but good. The menus is standard Italian++ (the two signs not indicating the quality; instead, 'some Thai', 'some Mediterranean', 'some sizzlers'.... you get the idea). The starter, salads and entres are all pretty decent - nothing that will stand out, but good solid fare, and with decent portions. The desserts, sourced from a little counter in the front, look great, are largely nice, but can sometimes be a little 'dated'.
Oh and the drinks are fine - like the food, I woudl not recommend the exotic, but you would not go wrong on a vodka&tonic !!
So enjoy (and maybe, like me, definetely use it as your '... where can we go this evening...' option !

Good
Having lived in Bandra for some years, and with the 'Shack' as a standard weekend option I use, here is the review...
Overall, a good place for...lots of drinks - some food - and, maybe, a little leg shaking... scene.
What sets it apart - The Music. A great collection of 60s to 90s music, largley rock (Floyd, Dire Straits, U2 etc. etc.) but with some soft rock and pop, especially early on in the evening. The music also indicates why it is so popular with the 30s crowd - they are all mouthing, and later in the evening shouting the lyrics!!
A bonus - The starters/food, though rather prosaic-sounding on the menu, are pretty good - especially on the non-veg end (and, I have had starters even at the start of my evenings!).
Whats ok - Drinks are decent enough, and so is the price!! However, my advice is to stay away from the exotic (and here that starts with flavoured Absolut!).
Whats not - Gets horribly crowded on the weekends - you have to kill a few toes on the way to the restroom/getting out of the place. And, it has got to be a fire hazard with all that wood & thatch all around.
So, a good place for that evening out with friends - especailly if you are into the rock-scene, and arent looking for too much sophistication.
