I have been to Banjara at Jayanagar quite a number of times, but this review would be more on my visit last night.
The table for our big family was booked in occasion of my uncle’s silver anniversary celebrations.
At the entrance there is lady who welcomes you and checks if you have made reservations. She also walks you till your table.
When there is a bigger crowd, buffet is convenient and is mostly chosen over A la carte
We were the first to reach and after a barely discernible wait. We started celebrations.
They are considerate enough to allow a cake from outside and we took advantage of this. This didn’t end here. They ensure it is presented well with candles and an ornamental plate and knife. There was also a surprise for the silver couple from Banjara. They were given a pineapple drink as a compliment.
Not sure if it is luck coming on a weekday or if there was less crowd, but we felt the ambiance of a private party hall. Though there were a few others, it felt like it was only us, just our family!
We soon began to bite on the buffet. This buffet did have some variety. There was a vegetarian and non vegetarian soup, I didn’t sip either but heard it was fine.
They had a variety of colorful salads, there was the aloo chat, dahi cucumber salad, cabbage salad, and cucumber, onion and carrot’s slices.
My favorites were the aloo chat which was delicioult tangy and the dahi cucumber which tasted super.
The starters in vegetarian included Aloo pepper, Tandoor gobi, Both of them tasted good, I would give the pepper aloo a higher rating!
The non veg starters included schezwan chicken and peanut chicken. This tasted really bad and stale, this was unanimously experienced across.
There was a corner were they made the breads including rumali roti, kulcha and rotis. They were done well and tasted fine.
The gravies to go with this on the vegetarian side were Mutter Panner, Vegetable Kolapuri, Dhal fry and Kadai Veg. On the non vegetarian we had a chicken gravy and fish shorba. Both these were nothing great at all. There was a Chinese corner that served fried rice, noodles and panner manchurain gravy. My mother enjoyed this thoroughly and recommended it to all of us and yes it did taste authentic. I loved the Manchurian gravy.
There was veg pulav and Chicken biryani. The biryani was overly spiced, just too much masala and didn’t taste anywhere close to biryani.
The counter was inclusive of steamed plain rice, Rasam. There was sumptuous seasoned curd rice, extra curd, dahi salad, mint chutney and pickles.
Like a typical south Indian, I relished the dhal and rasam rice. The rasam had a flavour of jaggery making it all the more tempting!
For the desserts there was Vanilla ice-cream, Pumkin Halwa and Hot jamoons. The combination of hot Jamoon and cold vanilla is something I enjoyed.
The waiters are always available and ready to help and the variety is good value for money.
There needs to be some conscious efforts to improve the taste and quality of non veg food. A place one can treat a large crowd at Jayanagar. Each plate costed around 300 after taxes.

My mother being a fan of the Chinese cuisine, suggested we should have dinner at Chungs.
Though close to home, it was quite a while since we tried this one.
The Chungs at east end opened a few years ago. They have 7 branches in Bangalore.
There is a short and broad stairway leading you to dark glass doors with welcoming Chinese lanterns and depictions.
Soon after you are warmly welcomed you’d find a dimly lit place. They have tables closely placed, with flat TV’s stuck to every wall.
There are more chances of a wait before getting your seat, but for us, it was a timely entry with an exit of another group.
We settled down in a corner table. In reason to accommodate more people, the tables are very closely placed, diminishing the privacy factor.
The menu was descriptive and had choices of vegetarian and non-vegetarian.
Soon we ordered a corn toast and chicken momos. The corn toast was at it's best when Chung's started, somehow, I felt the taste has deteriorated.
The chicken momos were not crispy and didn’t taste well. The garlic sauce with the corn toast was delicious, The soft drinks came in and we had a complaint it wasn’t cold enough, for which the waiter said, ice cubes weren’t available!
For the main course we had the American chopsuey, fried rice and a bowl of noodles. The crunchy chopsuey was my favorite, my taste buds thoroughly enjoyed the blend of crisp-n-juicy sauce. The rice and noodles were authentic and tasted just fine.
I must say that the service is quick and courteous. The waiters and helpers are very quick, very neatly replace used plates with clean ones and are always there for you with spoons, forks, sauce, water and anything you need.
They take telephonic reservations. Once we paid and came to the exit, there were quite some people in queue.
The place is very reasonable. A good place for a quick Chinese meal

Poor
Energy and excitement were at peak when the all girl-friends group met last weekend!!
Half a day of shopping, growling stomachs and an impulsive decision landed us in Malgudi on Residency road.
Before I would get on to sharing my experiences at this restaurant, I would like to share some information.
This has been newly opened; it’s been close to 3 months. They have four branches each at Electronic City, Marathahalli, HSR layout and Residency road.
The quite famous restaurant Amaravathi that served Andra food has been branded Malgudi.
Coming to the experience we savored. Each one of us felt It could be so much better.
Soon after we entered, I noticed the interiors with deep dark wood which were very appealing.
Also there were nice paintings of RK Narayan’s very famous Malgudi days, something that was stealing attention where the colorful lamps hanging from the ceiling.
The place was pretty crowded and soon we occupied a big table. The menu was given to us by a waiter. He looked like he was in a hurry from start to end!
Soon after we were given the menu, He probably gave us 10-12 seconds to decide on what we’d like to eat and was ready to take the order.
And talking about deciding what to eat, we were a ‘girls’ group. Wonder how he thought we would be so quick!! :-)
The menu had 5 assortments with four offering the south Indian Cuisine inclusive of Taste of Andra, Tamilnadu, Karnataka and Kerela.
The other variety was named Malgudi where you got a mixture of the above cuisines and Thai food as well.
Sweet and salt lemon drink was wanted across the table and the order was placed for this. With a majority of them being veggies we quickly ordered Andra vegetarian Thali’s. A friend and I preferred to have Chilly chicken for starters. The service was quick.
The thali contained quite a number of items. It had kheer, Chapathi, few curries and rice. One of vegetable curries was a Bitter gourd curry that none of us touched.
There was a vegetable stew, sambar, rasam and a cup of thick curd. A platter of assorted Crispi’s was placed. This was possibly the only thing I liked.
After chapathi, we had to ask for rice and this came to our plates only after a wait. The wait also continued for finger bowls.
The delay was because they kept moving the word from person to person, but no one got into the action to serve.
Soon after we paid and left the place, we discussed it was a place we would not go again. The experience of relishing a delicious meal was far away.
The service and taste of food need to scale up. The ambiance can be rated very well with comfortable seating arrangements and artistic interiors.
Am not sure on the positives I have heard about the other branches, but this one definitely needs to improve.

Good
Heard quite a lot about this place and being a resident of BTM we made several plans to visit Maiya’s… but the visit that we finally made was absolutely unplanned :-)
A long day after shopping and before we realized we should have dinner it was 10'oclock, it could be more too!
Would it be closed? Would it be crowded? Clueless of these we parked and went in. Surprisingly open and not crowded our tired faces hit a smile!
The entrance welcomes you with some exquisite and tempting sweets. The food and service hall is at the 1st and 2nd floors. We were led to the second floor.
The lighting and the interiors are pleasant. There were 6-7 tables occupied even at that hour…
We took our seats at one of the corners and without a choice and within minutes we had clear glasses of water, rectangular plates and a silver glass with grape juice!
Talk about people who had to wait in queue for 20 minutes, do a prior booking, and wait in endless serpentine queues!! Our’s was good timing and on a weekend it was great timing!
Not a big fan of the grape juice I didn’t want to taste it, but after much praise from my father I had a sip.
There was hot soup that came in next and it tasted just fine. Next in line was hot and golden yellow greasy puris… with potato curry was simply delicious. Thick vegetable curry popularly known as ‘sagu’ and cabbage curry added to the taste. Then came the capsicum rice which was so delectable it was a blend of just the right amount spices, cashews and of-course the yummy capsicum. The person who served us was full of life and the energy he had even at that late hour needed to be mentioned. He was ever smiling and these are a few things I gathered from him. It has been started 3 months ago, it has been under the entrepreneurial wing of MTR. Not sure if they are the popular Maiya’s who do the outdoor catering (BTW they make awesome food too).
The rice and Sambar, needless to say is the best you could get. The sambar with pumpkin has always been a favorite combination with south Indians and this one was so delicious! The rasam, papad and a cup of curd made an ideal and heavy meal.
On the weekdays they have a meal for Rs. 50 and Rs. 100. On the weekends there is no choice. Heard from friends that the dosas you get are good too, would definitely want to taste them next. So, once you are stuffed with this opulent meal, you’ll find it hard to get off your seat to clean your hands. What’s more, you get back and you will be surprised to find the grand finale, The ice cream or should I say milkshake, because the quantity between the two doesn’t really make a difference! The ice-cream was huge. It is a combination of fruit salad with some tasty sauce more like custard and a scoop of ice-cream. Even after trying hard, none of us could finish it.
The interiors are simple and neat. Two huge paintings of Karnataka’s ancient monuments are endowed on one of the walls adding the color and glee of South India.
It makes me happy that there’s a restaurant which is close in taste and quality to the famous MTR. And is close to home! It is definitely worth more and more visits.
Happy and yummy festival to all Burrpers :-)

Good
A busy day at work and a longing to escape at least an hour from the busy schedules! A phone call from a close buddy with a lunch plan…. What a perfect timing!!
And a plan with lunch for two chicken lovers at KFC, oh what a day,?? Could never get better than this...
A short drive and we reached KFC, quickly got in the queue and placed the order. The KFC at Jayanagar opened recently and indeed crowd pulling!
You are greeted by friendly ones who take your order, process your bills and the food within no time.
On weekends it surely is crowded, the wait-time is still appreciable.
We quickly got our trays of pleasing yummies and went up the stairway. Within no time we had our mouths in the Zinger burger.
This is one lip-smaking, finger-licking chicken burger!! Well, well there might be a little exaggeration in the previous statement, but oh yeah it is close to reality!
Honestly I have had this many times and it is worth this admiration.
A huge piece of crispy chicken which is soft and melting inside and crunchy outside, with a white creamy mayo, crispy Lettuce, cheese and lots more.
Two chirpy people after half a year meet up and there was so much to talk, but that probably was diminished with the overpowering food we had on our table.
The combi had a burger, piece of chicken, fries and a soft drink.
The chicken bucket is another delicacy that is totally irresistible. The perfection in taste probably is right amount of softness the chicken is cooked to, the perfect crisp in its covering and just the right amount of spices! Writing this makes me want to just grab one more.
The interiors are comfortable and spacious. There are people around to volitionally help you with anything else you need. The ice creams are also of a nice taste here. With the ice creams the ratio of quantity: price is definitely a less: more.
Once the twosome where done, we felt like two people who were quenched over our chicken crush!
Frankly, a place many visits!
