I had for long time wanted to try out Mini Punjab and finally got a chance this week when my team decided to go out for lunch on a pleasant Wednesday afternoon.
From the outside it looked like a good enough place. From the inside, well, it was small and claustrophobic. The construction of the place is rather weird and one gets the feeling that most of the space is occupied by walls! Funnily, looked like a restaurant cum bar to me though offcourse the place does not serve alcohol. Anyways, we had to switch on the A/C (yes we did it ourselves) and it finally felt like we were inside an A/C hall.
Moving on to the food, we were 7 of us so it was going to be a big feast! We quickly ordered for starters, main course and drinks in that order.
Starters constituted of Paneer Chilly, Paneer Tikka and Pahadi Kebab. The Paneer Chilly was the best starter dish any of us have had in a while. It wasn't very spicy, but just about enough to make me take a few sips of water. The Pahadi Kebab was a bit weird. I think it was cooked in mustard oil (or whichever oil it was, it was too much oil!). The chicken wasn't tender and quite dry as well. It looked liked it was burnt rather than cooked in some masala. Paneer Tikka was a let down as well, it was quite bland and hardly any flavour other than that of bland paneer.
Moving on to the main course, we ordered for Chicken Kadai, Chicken Tikka Masala, Paneer Kadai, Jeera Rice, Dal Fry, Rotis, Naans and Aloo Parathas.
Starting from the Best: Paneer kadai. Absolutely lip smackingly delicious. The Jeera Rice was very good. Not too dry, not too oily, just right. I cannot eat rice without a side dish such as dal, but this one I could. The Dal Fry, was delicious as well, once i had that, I forgot all the chicken in my plate and hogged much of the remaining Dal Fry.
Sadly, it was the non-veg dishes that weren't so good. While the Chicken Kadai had four pieces of chicken and water thin gravy, the Chicken Tikka Masala had a sparse quantity of chicken with thick gravy which did not taste like chicken tikka atall.
The rotis weren't so good either. Lots of butter on em which is sure to give someone a heart attack. The Parathas on the other hand though were very very good. Again, not very oily and stuffed with mashed aloo and herbs.
Next up were the drinks, I had the lassi which I thoroughly enjoyed. The rest ordered for fresh lime water.
On the service part, we were served well until the place got packed with some women after which the waiters just didn't come to our table! It took more time to call them for the bill and subsequently collect the bill than the time taken to bring the order!
On the pricing front we paid Rs.1286 overall. Here is the breakdown:
Aloo Paratha - Rs.30 (Worth very penny)
Butter Naan - Rs.25
Butter Roti - Rs. 15
Roti - 12
Chicken Kadai - Rs. 150 (Not worth the price)
Dal Fry - Rs.80 (Extremely good)
Fresh Lime Water - Rs.25
Jeera Fried Rice - Rs.85
Lassi - Rs.30
Paneer Chilly - Rs.120 (Good but expensive)
Pahadi Kebab - Rs.150 (Too expensive)
Paneer Kadai - Rs. 130 (The best of the lot)
Paneer Tikka - Rs.120 (Again, too expensive)
The pricing of some of the products was ridiculous considering the fact that the food was not tasty and the quantity was less as well. They are taking advantage of their location.
Overall, not really a recommended place for its high prices and not so good dishes.

New Yorker is one of the better eateries in the city, or so we thought. It has that 'Very Expensive' feel to it though in my opinion it is a much cheaper place than say Mochas.
I like the posters on the wall, pictures from all across the city, in black and white. Really nice! (Thinking of getting something like that done in my room!)
Food:
Anyways, moving on to the food, first up was the Ice Tea followed by Swiss Cheese Fondue, Pinwheel Cannelloni and Bruschetta.
The ice tea, was a real downer, tasted like lemon juice. Not even a hint of tea in there!
The Cheese Fondue, hmm, I'd give it a 4/5 for being cheaper than Mochas and a little bit better as well. The melted cheese was much thicker that expected and was not bad at all. We got good quantity of side servings as well, good enough for two people at least (We were four of us).
Next up was the Pinwheel Cannelloni which had a lot more gravy (made primarily out of tomatoes) than stuff inside the Cannelloni. Though the waiter told us that it serves two people, I have serious doubts whether it can even serve one person. Pinwheel Cannelloni wasn't very filling so we ordered for something small, Bruschetta. (ya ya its a starter which we ordered after the main course, ha ha!) Bruschetta is essentially garlic bread but bigger and better. Its like Version 2.0 of Garlic Bread! Jokes aside, Bruschetta was by far the best item so far. Laced with mozzarella cheese, it was quite a treat.
Price:
Iced Lemon Tea - Rs.69
Swiss Cheese Fondue - Rs.175
PinWheel Cannelloni - Rs.179
Bruschetta - Rs.89
Service:
The service was not upto the mark. The waiters took their own sweet times to come to the table when called. This when the place was relatively empty. He took quite a long time to return back with the credit card too. I didn't expect such shoddy service from a place like New Yorker.
Verdict:
Overall the place was not so bad but could be better, especially in the food and service department. The 3-star rating signifies, that though some food items maybe worthwhile the rest are just not worth for the price you pay for it.

Poor
Info:
Barista is well known for its many coffee flavours and other snacks besides a chilled out ambiance. Well this outlet was no different. I was out with friends winding up at Barista after a hard day's work. Wanted something small to fill me up so ordered for a Chicken Tikka Sandwich and a Barista Frappe with Vanilla Ice Cream to go with it.
The sandwich was, by any standards pathetic to say the least. I have had better sandwich, yes chicken tikka sandwich, for a quarter of what I paid at Barista.
The coffee on the other hand was better but not worth the Rs.155 I paid for it!
The only thing that makes me give the outlet two stars is the ambiance which I think is really the best part about place.
Prices:
Chicken Tikka Sandwich - Rs.73
Barista Frappe with Ice Cream - Rs.100+Rs.33
Corn and Spinach Sandwich - Rs.66
Verdict:
Overpriced, sad food coupled with an overpriced drink was not what we bargained for at Barista. I wont be going to any Barista outlet anytime soon.

Good
Caravan Serai was a random pick for lunch on a busy weekday and it was not a bad choice atall!
As soon as we entered the place, we were taken aback by a very North Indian village house ambiance. It was quite a pleasant setting for a relaxed lunch. I`d give 5 stars for the ambiance cause of the fact that we spent 2 hours there instead of the regular 1 hour lunch time we have in office and did not even realize that. (Offcourse the yelling from the bosses later is not counted).
Jumping straight to the food, we ordered a few quick starters.
Kesari Murg Tikka , Kokri Kabab and Paneer Paratdar and a lassi and fresh lime soda to go with the food.
First things first, the Kokri Kabab (I think thats how its spelt) was just out of the world. crusty from the outside and had filling inside. I do not exactly know what it contained but whatever it was it was extremely delicious. The Paneer Paratdar was soft, bland and it melted in the mouth. The chicken starter was pretty good. Nice, tender and yummy.
Next up was the main course which consisted of Chicken Kolhapuri and Subzi Punjabi along with Kulcha. My first time with Kulcha and I really liked it. Quite delicious, even though it was plain I could eat it without the gravy!!
Chicken Kolhapuri was spicy as usual and as far as I can remember, the most spicy Kolhapuri Chicken I have ever had. Subzi Punjabi was nice as well. A mix of sabzi along with paneer pieces. It was a good tasty dish and more on the spicy side but not as spicy as the Kolhapuri, just good enough for my taste.
The Lassi was very very nice. I really liked it, not very thick and not very thin either. For dessert, we had Shahi Tukda which was the first time i was having the dish and it was quite a delicious way to end the whole meal. The Fresh Lime Water, well, i could never differentiate between a Rs.3 nimbu paani and a Rs.100 nimbu paani and I will leave it at that.
Here are the prices:
Kesari Murg Tikka 260
Kokri Kabab 195
Paneer Paratdar 215
Chicken Kolhapuri 240
Subzi Punjabi 195
Kulcha 50
Shahi Tukda 125
Fresh Lime Soda 50
Fresh Lime Water 50
Lassi 90
The food was excellent, coupled with a very relaxed ambiance makes this a must visit place. But one thing, the waiters kept hovering around the table. Well ok it was not very crowded that time of the day but this was just a little too much. We were engrossed in our petty conversations so did not notice them much but that can really put off people. Overall four-stars to Caravan Serai.
Bon Appetit!!

Good
I went to Marine Drive on a lazy Sunday morning to enjoy the monsoon and landed up at 210 Degrees for my first ever Breakfast Brunch (if I can call it that). Anyways here is the review:
The Place:
210 degrees is a heaven for vegetarians. It is located outside Samrat Restaurant (which itself is a veggie's delight) and has a small seating area (just about 6 tables with four chairs each). My friends and me went there at 10 AM as it opens at that time and were treated to a full stock of cakes, pastries and other delectable items.
One observation here - the cakes here are so well designed and well decorated that you feel like buying them even if there is no occasion to celebrate.
The Food:
Anyways, after much contemplating, we decided to order the Paneer Cheese Plait and Paneer Tikka Croissant. The Croissant was well, just like a Croissant, lots of bread and very little paneer. No complaints though, as the bread was soft and the paneer even more softer and yummier.
The Paneer Cheese Plait was totally opposite the croissant in terms of filling. A very very liberal filling of paneer, coupled with a liberal cheese spread and soft bread made this dish the best breakfast dish in the 23 years I have existed on the blue planet. I really wanted to have one more but decided against it. So opted for an Open Veg Pizza, which again had lots of cheese, but not many 'vegetables'. The base was crunchy enough to make this a good quick snack.
Next up was the urge to have a pastry, after all, how can a meal (So what if it was just breakfast) be complete without desserts? So I ordered for a Chocolate Zebra and my friend ordered a Blueberry Cheese Cake. I totally loved the Cheese Cake, so much so that I ate almost the whole of it (whilst also finishing my Zebra simultaneously). The Cheese Cake melted in the mouth and was an absolute delight! Cheese cakes weren't my preference before but now they surely are! The Chocolate Zebra was good too and quite huge for its price.
Besides the pastries and the croissants, I had an Espresso as well. My first time with it. But I actually liked it and was very refreshing. Oh and the coffee was freshly made out of coffee beans grounded to powder right in front of our very own eyes. It wasn't the sight but the smell which I can vividly recall even now.
Overall, one of the best breakfast meals I have had in a very long time. A much needed break from the usual bread-butter-tea regime! 210 Degrees is so definitely on my 'regular haunts' list now!
The Service:
The service was good, not exactly with a smile, but the guys at the counter were doing their best to get over the 'Sunday Morning' blues!.
The Price:
Espresso - Rs.20
Coffee - Rs.25
Paneer Cheese Plait - Rs.25
Paneer Tikka Croissant - Rs.25
Open Veg Pizza - Rs.30
Blueberry Cheese Cake - Rs.45
Chocolate Zebra - Rs.50
Overall:
210 Degrees is by far one of the better places near Churchgate station to have a quick bite which is filling and is light on the pockets as well. Good food, great presentation, and awesome pricing makes 210 Degrees a must visit place any-damn-time-of-any-given-day. Breakfast preferred though!
Miscellaneous:
There is a lot of stuff on offer at 210 Degrees including - Pastries, Cakes, Brownies, Mousse, Muffins, Pies, Donuts, Lavas, Bread Sticks, Coffee, Breads (Regular, European, French, Health), Pav, Rolls, Croissants, Puffs, Bread Snacks and Quiches.
