Excellent
Aaswad serves some classic maharashtrian snacks like misal pav, usal, kothimbir wadi etc. Its located bang opposite the old Kohinoor mills in Dadar(W).
If you happen to be in the area, be sure to try out their kothimbir wadi and thaalipeeth. The piping hot thaleepeeth is not for the dieter, what with it being fried and served with a dollop of butter. But the taste is out of the world and best eaten fresh. You can finish up with 'Piyush' i.e. shrikhand lassi, which is pretty good.
Dont try any other item like the south indian ones or the standard subzis which also they offer. Best is to stick to maharashtrian fare, which is what's the best thing on the menu.
And its great VFM - your meal of three dishes and a drink comes to less than 100 Rs! They also do home delivery in the Dadar/Mahim area and are quite crowded in the evenings and weekends.

Good
I don't know why Mocha takes a beating with most burrpers!
I generally frequent the Mocha at Nirmal Lifestyles with my wife. It is our favourite haunt, where we land up at around 9:30 - 10:00 at night. The place is not crowded and is pretty comfortable. This is one place we can always laze around, destress and chat away without worrying about how time goes by. I agree that some of the sofas are stained. The service is decent and the choices on the new Menu are interesting enough.
I love the kind of music they play at this outlet of Mocha.
I had been to the outlet at Powai, but walked out immediately. It was too crowded and noisy. So i guess, if you choose the right outlet, you will have a good time.

Awful
Subway in India is not worth a visit. I have been to 3 of its outlets and have had bad experiences at all of them.
One didn't even have cheese at the outlet. All the buckets seem to be nearly empty. They always seem to be scraping off stuff from the bottom of each bucket.
If you are in the mood to tuck in, then a 6 inch won't even make a dent to ur hunger pang. So you are felt with a feeling of wanting more.
The breads were also not as fresh as you would expect them to be in Subway.
I don't want to be caught walking into a Sub outlet.

Good
One of the very few places in Mumbai, which is so generous with the seating. The tables are spread out nicely and you don't feel like the person on the other table can steal your food the moment u look somewhere else!
The ambience is excellent. The price is a little over the top, but with a healthy percentage of foreigners frequenting the restaurant, I don't think they have felt the need to reduce the price.
The veg food quality is supposedly good (I avoid veg food whenever possible!). The non-veg food wasn't too much to cry home about.
I would go there if I wanted to have a relaxing evening with my family and feel some space around me.
Unfortunately, I missed the bar the last time around.

Average
Frankly I am not too much into Thalis. Especially the ones where Chinese noodles and Veg Manchurian are served as a part of the Thali, like they did at this place.
Some people swear by the quality of the Thali at Tip-Top. But I don't see why.
The Thali at Rajdhani in Nirmal Lifestyle is a lot better than this place. But I know of people who feel the other way around.
