I realize that it sounds like anathema to go to Trishna and eat only the vegetarian food (especially in light of the fact that I am usually a die-hard sea food fanatic!), but that is exactly what I did for lunch today.
I was by myself so did not want to order a multiple dishes for fear that (a) I would not be able to finish them or, (b) if I DID finish them, I would be in a food coma for the remainder of the day which would render me unable to go back to work.
I decided to keep it simple and order a portion of the Hyderabadi Daal and a Butter-Garlic Naan. Both items were superlative!
I cannot say for sure, but I'd be willing to wager cold cash that even the daal they make in Hyderabad itself is not as good as Trishna's version of it. Add to this a moist, warm and thoroughly flavorful butter-garlic naan and you have yourself a great lunch.
In addition to the GREAT food, the service at Trishna is always friendly, prompt and curteuos - all of which go a long way in creating customer loyalty (God knows I keep going back!!).
On the price front, Trishna tends to be a little on the high side (which is why it only earned 4 stars from me). For my simple lunch, I ended up paying 250 bucks. This figure is not really high per se, but if one bears in mind that all I got was daal, naan and a soda-pop it seems a bit pricey.
Either way, on the balance, Trishna deserves (and gets) 2 whole-hearted thumbs up from me.

I cannot disagree more with the last reviewer and am totally surprised that he had a bad experience at Britannia. The only reason I can think of for this is that he is a vegitarian and Britannia is all about the goodness of non-veg Parsi bhonu.
Being fairly close to my office, I go to Britannia from time to time and I have to say that I am never disappointed. Their signature dish is the berry berry pulav which is sublime! Other than that, however, all the other dishes are also quite delectable. Among my favorites are the mutton dhansakh, the salli boti, the chicken farcha and the cutlets. All REALLY authentic and superb!
As far as ambience goes, this place is nothing grand. It is basically like an old Irani restaraunt. The waitstaff however are really friendly and efficient.
As far as price is concerned, it is a little on the steep side, especially for the type of place it is.
Having said that though, I do and will keep going back to Britannia!

Before today, I had never ordered pizza from Domino's in India so I was not really sure what to expect when I picked up the phone to call them. I am happy to report, however, that I was thoroughtly satisfied with my experience at the Colaba Domino's.
The staff were friendly and curteous. They efficiently took our order and delivered our lunch in under 30 minutes. Additionally, there were no mess-ups in the order despite the fact that we ordered several pizzas with multiple different toppings on each.
With regard to the food - it was very "what you see is what you get" and exactly what we expected. No surprises in the quality of the pepperoni (which is usually an uncertainty in India) or any of the other ingredients for that matter. The veggies were fresh and crisp and the cheese was plentiful!
We got a total of 5 dishes and polished all of them off in no time. Total damage: 1,100 bucks.
All in all a great lunch at the office. The Colaba Domino's can expect me to be calling back again soon!

Call me finicky, but I generally avoid eating meat off the streets - you never know where it came from, how it's been stored and what type of bugs it may be carrying. I figure there is no reason to invite gastro-intestinal trouble. I am doubly conscious about this during the monsoons.
Having said that, I agreed to going to Bade Miya's against my better judgement last week. Before any allegations of hypocrisy are flung at me, let me say that it was late, I was famished, I had knocked back several vodkas at Busaba so my judgement was clouded and most importantly, nowhere else would serve us a quick bite before bed.
Put succinctly, Bade Miya's is a dump, pretty much on every level imaginable! Here's why...
Ambience: If you don't come in a car, you will more than likely be seated with total strangers on tacky patio furniture situated a moist, craggy sidewalk under a drippy eave of the roof overhead (I realize it's July, but that is no excuse!). Even more aggarvating - be prepared to be hovered over by other patrons waiting their turn for seating.
Hygiene: I cannot say for sure when the health department has last been there to do an audit but from the looks of things, I would say not anytime in this millennium. The food is cooked right on the road with an open sewer flowing by. The veritable menagerie of cats and dogs that call this lane home are more than happy to scavenge for scraps in the "kitchen" at Bade Miya. Add to this the swarms of flies and other insect life and you have the total picture.
Service: The waiters/seaters seem to come in 2 flavors - rude/inattentive and super chatty/over-bearing. Both these "flavors" leave a lot to be desired as far as dining experiences go.
Food: On the face of it, the food tastes OK. People seemed to be wolfing down their food with wild abandon (us included). We ordered buna ghosht, chicken tikkas and a couple of butter chicken rolls which got inhaled in under 15 minutes - I'm thinking this is more to do with the fact that most of the patrons are drunk, hungry and liable to eat most anything than with the quality of the food itself.
Given the low hygiene standards and general lack of oversight ordering at Bade Miya is a bit like a game of Russian Roulette - one REALLY cannot be sure of it's origins. Order chicken and you may end up getting crow; order mutton and you may be served dog. What I got along with my butter chicken roll was a very upset stomach!
Price: Very affordable. All our food and a few soft drinks set us back about 350 bucks. "Not bad," some would say. To me, however, that's a lot to pay for an upset stomach that I did not even want in the first place!
Overall: HIGHLY avoidable...now don't say you have not been warned!

Hotel Bawa Continental, Juhu Tara Road, Juhu, Mumbai
Rated: Excellent
Went to this place for dinner with a friend last night. Being the SOBO brat that I am, I was a little perturbed by my friend insisting that we go here - the thought of driving all the way to Juhu was a little daunting. Luckily it was not raining and the traffic was not too bad.
We walked into this very unassuming place with a superb neighborhood feel - think your average middle-of-the-road Italian eatery in New York. The Italian marble slabs on the walls and the black and white opera posters really gave this place a great "old-world" charm. Also, the wait-staff is increadibly friendly and warm and they really make you feel like you have gone over to a friend's place for a meal. Can't really ask for much more!
The food was delectable! I ordered the Chicken Saltimbocca with Parma ham which was to die for. My friend got the Spaghetti with asparagus and spicy Italian suasage which was also just as good. For dessert we shared a Tiramisu which is the best that I have had in Bombay - for one thing it was not egg-less, as is the case with most other Tiramisu one finds in India. We washed all of this down with a couple of glasses of fantastic French merlot.
We ended up paying a mere 2,300 bucks for a superb meal and a great evening. I can't wait to go back to Don Giovanni and am prepared to brave the rain and the ghastly traffic to do it.
P.S.: An added appeal (for me anyways) to this place is that they don't allow kids! I think that's a first for any restaraunt in Bombay.
