The Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, Apollo Bunder, Colaba, Mumbai

Average

Average food at an Extrordinary Price

Food: 3/5, Ambience: 4/5, Service 5/5
Truly living up to the metaphor of "five star food".
Food 3/5
Indian food is strictly OK. Appetizers were average, main coarse was average, dessert was not bad and the bill was - fantastic. Rs. 7000 for a dinner for 3. Steep to say the least. Don't mind paying for a good dining experience, but expect the quality of the food to be at par with the price, which it was not. Had the raan, biryani and daal - and all three were strictly ok. So not much more to say in this dept.
Ambeince: 4/5
Well this is what you pay for. Nice and airy. Lit well. Overall nice.
Service: 5/5
Again it's 5 star hotel restaurant - so this is top notch. I wish some of the smaller restaurant's would learn a little in the graceful art of service.
All in all - it's not worth the money.

Poor

Food 2/5, Ambience 3/5, Service 2/5

Would not return anytime soon to Indigo Deli.
Food 2/5
Huge let down. I keep reading review's from so called gastronomique's, raving about this place, so went there instead of Moshe's on a dull tuesday night. Fish and chips - were not good. Fish was not fresh. Portion including the fries was tiny. The wife ordered the Lamb Ragout, was overcooked and a terribly fatty pice. She probably ate 30% of it. One of our friends had ordered the Pancakes. She got one fat pancacke. This place is only hype.

Ambience 3/5
Looks like a nice deli. Serves it's purpose. Nothing to rave about. Bench's didn't have back rests.

Service 2/5
Not enough staff. Had to wait on everything. Food took forever to come out, so subjected our hunger to the bread basket, which was pretty decent.

This is one of those places that for every one positive review, there are 5 negative one's... Will not return anytime soon.

Potential to do much better

Spent an evening with friends in the lounge area. We were supposed to have drinks there and head to Indigo for dinner, but ended up staying there the entire time.

Drinks - 5/5 - Special category for this place.
- Martini's in particular - they have 5 or 6 on the menu. We tried them all and they were really good. Most bars in Bombay struggle with the correct mixes - but these guys got it spot on. It was the drinks that prompted us to spend the rest of the night at Busaba over Indigo. In particular there was a spicy Vodka martini - don't remember the name - but this was excellent. Sweeter drinks were good too.

Food - 2/5
The biggest let down. Had heard many good things plus the fact that the chef has tv show of his own, our expectations rang high. The food however was a let down. Too salty, too sweet or too spicy. The sauces / spice's on everything were overbearing. Huge disappointment. Did not have dessert so no comment there.

Ambience - 3/5
The lounge is dark and the music is very very loud. DJ in the middle of the lounge. Selection of music is good, but a little too loud for the small place, I felt. Not inviting as a drinking joint.

Service - 3/5
Waiters seemed busy doing nothing. There were a lot of them but just couldn't get their attention. Maybe it was the darkness or the music being loud, but they seemed a little lost. My wife has a habit of ordering a sea food dish, and then asking if the sea food was fresh. Our waiter needed to have the manager come over to answer our question about the quality of sea food, which of coarse he said, was fresh. Other than that service was generally slow - but we weren't really in a rush so it didn't bother us much.

A nice place to have excellent drinks - a touch pricey here, but if your looking for nondescript place that's dark - this is it.

Average

Food 3.5/5, Ambience 2/5, Service 2.5/5

Had heard a lot about this quaint cafe. Did not live up to the expectations. You cannot use low budget as an excuse for unhygenic. Tables, plates, glasses were filthy.

Food 3.5/5
Average fare from all over the place, hamburgers, club sandwhiches, lasagna and pasta, middle eastern lamb and Tandoori chicken sandwhiches. Everything average with the potential to be so much tastier if a little more care was taken. Would not return for food.

Ambience 2/5
The place is nothing much, a small cafe, but you have to know that going in. So can't really complain. But cleanliness is a must and that's where this place looses out.

Service 2.5/5
Waiters are trying to rotate tables so tend to hurry you a little. All in all ok. Our waiter insisted that the red garlic sauce he served us was tartar sauce :) . Enough said.

Point to note - Chop N Chop dish - is your chicken parmesan with indian masala. Pretty tasty.

Good

Food 4/5, Ambience 2/5, Service 3.5/5

Food: 4/5
Most restaurants struggle with the food - and these guys have the recipe to success. The bigger brother at Worli sets the benchmark for hardcore punjabi food in India and worldwide. The reason they don't get a perfect score in this category is because the Raan of Lamb I ordered was charred and tough, and the Paratha was not wheat but Maida. Chicken Makhani was splendido!! Absolutely perfect.

Ambience 2/5:
It's basic and that's it. Only reason it doesn't get a 1/5 is because of the open kitchen. But there's nothing else. However, in an effort to excite our dining experience, a rat ran across the restaurant while we were eating. But no points deducted here, every single restaurant i've come across has rats, because if a restaurant doesn't have rats, then something's gotta be really wrong with their food!! Watch Ratatouille.

Service 3.5/5
Lost a point here because the manager pretended there was no rat!! all the waiters were animatedly making efforts to catch the rodent, but the manager, in a effort to save face, claimed there was no rat. Other than that - no complaints with the service, which in itself is a compliment.

Point to note: They are charging a 5% inflation surcharge - which to me is something new - so, on top of their menu prices they charge you 5% more.

Bottom line - great food - decent prices. Perfect fix for that Makhani craving.
