Excellent
Caravan Serai is the best Indian Restaurant. Situated on Waterfield Road, Bandra, it has restaurants like Red Box Cafe, China Gate and Golden Orchid as neighbours.
Coming straight to the food, I have been here loads of times and have come to realization that the following are best they have to offer for vegetarians
Starters
Panner Tikka ( White Colour Afghani Style)
Bhattiwale Paneer Tikka (Red Colour)
Veg Sheek Kabab
Veg Hara Bhara Kabab
Main Course
Paneer Khurchan (their speciality)
and finally
Daal Bukhari ( the best)
Turrah Naan
Khasta Naan
Lachha Paratha
Rumali Roti
In my numerous visits, I tend to order a combination of the above along with different rice and rotis.
Their food is best had with a nice chhas, lassi, beer or their superb long island iced tea. Apart from this, they have a well stocked bar serving most indian and foreign liquors and a limited list of wines.
I am going to share with you my experience of my latest visit.
I had gone for dinner on a weekday evening at 9pm after a long day of shopping in the Suburbs... and what an end to the day!
We were promptly given a table of our choice ( the restaurant was almost empty). Light Bhangra music was playing in the background. This place is so wonderfully decorated; especially the columns and ceilings are treated really well. There is a glass enclosed tandoor kitchen. There was a small floating candle on the table in a bowl of water. This set the perfect mood for dinner after a tiring day.
The waiter was prompt in handing us the menu cards and gave us enough time to decide our food. We decided to skip starters and head straight for the main course.
Our Order:
1 Paneer Khurchan (Rs. 215)
1 Daal Bukhari (Rs. 200)
1 Jeera Rice (Rs. 140)
1 Cheese Naan (Rs. 75)
1 Lacchadar Paratha (Rs. 45)
3 Soft Drinks (Rs. 50 each)
1 Mineral Water (Rs. 55)
Total: Rs. 990 (inclusive 12.5% VAT) for 3 people
Coming to the food,
The Paneer Khurchan is definitely the best. The paneer melts in your mouth and had a perfect blend of spices. Their famous Daal Bukhari was superb, only place that does a better one is peshawari at ITC. It was nicely simmered for 24 hours. A word of caution, the portions are king sized and very very heavy. The daal has loads of ghee in it, so order accordingly. The breads were nice and well made.
I keep going to this place, in fact I was there yesterday, and they never seem to disappoint anybody. Great for family celebrations or dinner with friends, and also a date.
Enjoy the food and share your experiences.
Bon Appetit!

Good
This newly doen place is a great place for meals in matunga-sion. Especially for people who are bored with the usual peninsula, hanuman, classic routine.
Saffron is the pure vegetarian restaurant and bar that was resurrected from the old dingy and dirty restaurant situated on the 1st floor of north indian association's club on bhau daji road, near kings circle. The place is done up newly but not that well, but who cares as long as the food is good and well to add, cheap too!
I had stopped by with my brother on Friday night and was surprised to find it almost full. Here's our experience.
Order:
1 peanuts
1 masala rumali roti
1 hara bhara kabab
1 paneer tikka
1 paneer biryani
1 veg raita
3 pepsi
1 sizzling brownie
Damage: Rs 359
Service:
Service was quick and efficient.
Food:
The peanuts were bad and over salty. The masala rumali roti was very well cooked in the tandoor and was better than most other places like copper chimney and spices and flavours. Hara Bhara Kabab was good, but the colour was a bit put off. The paneer tikka was superb, it melts in ones mouth. The paneer biryani was the best of the lot. very well cooked and had a superb taste. the raita which i had ordered to accompany the biryani was nice and chilled. Sizzling brownie was well made and was not burnt like many places tend to.
Go here if you are searching for a tasty and cheap meal in the area.

Good
Went by for dessert late in the night. Love this place for late night coffee and dessert. Situated in a quaint lane behind the Taj, off Colaba Casueway, this is a wonderful place to eat lunch, dinner or just stop by for coffee. For now heres the desert review. I will write another elaborate one on the food menu soon.
Order:
3 Blueberry Cheesecake
1 Tiramisu
1 Gooey Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Ice cream
1 Hazelnut Chocolate Torte.
Damage: Rs. 700 for 5 people
The Blueberry Cheesecake was delicious (as usual). They have on of the best cheesecakes in town. Also they are eggless!
The Tiramisu was a great disappointment. I found it a bit stale .
The Gooey Chocolate and Torte were good. (I am not a chocolate cake lover at least when i have blueberry cheesecake as an option) So this part was reviewed by my sister who liked the chocolate cake and torte.
And once again please do not miss the blueberry cheesecake.

Good
This tiny little restaurant is one of my favourite for Italian food. It has a great variety in its menu for vegetarians like me.
Order:
1 Bruschetta
1 Garlic Foccacia with Herb Butter and Chilly Cheese Dip
2 Cheese Garlic Bread
1 Pizza Margherita with chopped onions, roasted peppers, black olives
1 Penne Alfredo with Baby Corn, Broccoli
1 Blueberry Cheese Cake
1 bottle of Sula Chenin Blanc
Bill:
Rs. 1885 for 3 people
Ambience:
This place has a minimalistic décor. There are wooden seats and tables. A nice bar and desert counter and the entrance with the cashiers PC. The lighting is not very bright or too dark. It is just perfect.
Normally this restaurant is really quite; with nice soft music, and can provide the atmosphere for a nice conversation. But this time, there were 2 huge families seated right next to us making the rating 4/5. But from my earlier experiences, the place has a great ambience and is perfect for small groups.
I prefer sitting indoors, but the outdoor seating with the mood lighting is great in the winters. ( I prefer the outdoor seating at Cafe Basilico right opposite the street)
The place was decorated in mistletoe and Christmas decorations which set the right mood. To add on, the waiters were wearing Santa hats and they were playing carols.
Service:
Service was very efficient in spite of the large groups seated besides us. We were served very promptly. The wine was chilled properly and the remains were stored in the chiller. The waiters were all very attentive, friendly and courteous and made sure the orders were taken properly.
Food:
The bruschetta was superb as usual. Well made, the bread was crunchy and the tomato and cheese juicy.
The foccacia ( my favourite) was great as usual. It was served warm with the correct amount of dip.
The Garlic bread was well toasted in the oven with perfectly melted cheese. We ordered a repeat of this between the meal and were surprised to get the order in 5 mins flat!
The Pizza was nice. The veggies were all nice, fresh and juicy.
The Pasta was good, not great. They served with 2 pieces of the garlic foccacia bread. I personally don't like alfredo sauce, but my friends loved the pasta. The baby corn and broccoli were perfectly cooked.
The Blueberry Cheese Cake was scrumptious. We loved the cheese cake.
The Sula Chenin Blanc was nice and chilled and is one of my best Indian White Wines.
From my previous experiences, try the soups, they are superb. Also the canelloni and risotto is superb. They also have the menu of the day.
All in all, this place is great for a romantic meal or a nice and quiet conversation between a group of friends. Go for the excellent food and ambience. Make sure you make a reservation during the weekends.
Buon appetito!

Good
I was passing by Bembo's after a meeting and was tempted to check this place once again in spite of my previous experience . So I ventured inside and thankfully the stink was absent.
Ordered a Large Veggie Delight with cheese and a small bottle of water. It cost me rupees 79. The food was superb. The patty was nice and crunchy and the soft bread was heated just to the right temperature.
Three things made it lose the 5 star rating. Only thing that was bothering was the kind of music they were playing. When we were almost finishing the meal, there was a sudden burst of Nasik Dhol which then was changed to a Himesh track at a loud volume. Also the waiter at the counter was continuously taking calls on his cell phone. And lastly though not very very important, their AC wasn't working which was alright as it was under maintenance.
All in all I am happy for Bembo's to be back on track with a refreshing aroma!
Bon Appetit
